Sleepless

The night went by quickly as Alex lay in his bed.

Or at least as quick as a sleepless night could go, it had become apparent to Alex early on that this wasn't too great of a power, at least not when there was nothing to do or he wasn't on a battlefield.

'Sometimes I crave that sleep so much that it's depressing to even think about' Alex thought as he stood up from his bed.

The chirps of birds had arrived signaling the coming of the new morning, The sun was already above the horizon, painting the world in its light.

'All right, time to get ready then, it's going to be quite the hectic day if I don't finish everything swiftly.' Alex thought as he walked to his clothes drawer, opening it he saw a couple of clothes and a pair of sneakers.

'They're not bad, a bit old I'd say but still feel alright.' Alex thought as he checked the sneakers out, he hadn't really worn them much as they had looked old. Thankfully they seemed to still be the right size for him.

Putting on a comfortable tracksuit and wearing the sneakers, Alex walked to the bathroom where he looked at himself in the mirror.

His expression didn't look good even to himself, it clearly gave the vibe that he had a bad night's sleep.

'Bad night's sleep, I wish' Alex thought as he started combing his hair and styling it. After finishing that, Alex brushed his teeth, put on a bit of cologne, and headed out of the bathroom.

Outside of the bathroom, Alex saw Bella's door open as she walked toward the bathroom, her eyes had bags under them and she clearly hadn't had much of a great night herself.

"Couldn't sleep?" Alex asked her though she seemed to not even notice him for a moment.

"Huh?" Bella said groggily and then lifted her head to look at Alex.

For a moment she stood silent as she gathered up her half-asleep mind and then nodded.

"Yeah, I barely slept, was too excited about today. You're coming as well right?" Bella said as she looked at Alex who gave a nod.

"Yeah, I'll be coming along as well. Or do you want me to stay here and leave you alone with Edward?" Alex asked as he tried to tease Bella, his tone however was all wrong and it didn't really look like he was putting much effort in.

Bella simply frowned at him for a second and then turned around, heading into the bathroom, deciding it was too early to deal with Alex.

Alex just gave a light smile and headed downstairs, when he arrived, he saw Charlie was already awake and was even clothed in his police uniform.

"Isn't Sunday an off day?" Alex asked as he sat down on the dining table and took a carton of milk and some cereals that had been left on the table.

"I got called, seems like there was a murder, they're saying it was a bear attack," Charlie said as he fastened his gun to his waist.

"Right, gotta be careful around the forest until they find it huh?" Alex said as he tried to make small talk.

'It's the rouges' Alex thought as he grabbed a spoonful of the cereal with milk and ate it.

'It's all right' Alex thought once he savoured the taste.

"That's right, I heard Bella was going to the Cullens," Charlie said as he turned to face Alex.

"Same, they invited me too so I i thought id go since I have nothing to do today"

"All right, just be careful okay?" Charlie said as he walked to the shoe drawer and took his police boots.

"Sure thing Dad, you be careful too right?" Alex said as he looked at the man who had taken a place in his heart in just a few months.

"Sure thing son," Charlie said as he gave a slight smile and then finished putting his boots on.

Turning back toward Alex again, Charlie took something out of his pocket. It was two white cans of what looked like spray.

"Here, one for you and one for Bella. I hope you don't get to use them but if something does happen it's better to have than to be caught off guard." Charlie said as he put the before Alex on the table.

Looking at them, Alex saw that it was bear spray.

"Sure, thanks, Dad. I'll make sure neither of us get into any trouble and don't even need to use them" Alex said as he tried to comfort the man's mind.

"Thanks" Charlie replied with a soft smile and then headed towards the front door.

"I'll be going then, Alex" 

"Bye!" Alex said and then grabbed the empty bowl and got up, putting it in the sink.

A minute or so later, Alex heard the rumble of the police car as it drove away to the station.

'I think the guy who died was a friend of Charlie's,' Alex thought as he tried remembering what had happened in the movies.

Turning around, he stared at the spray cans.

'I think a bear would need those more than I would if we crossed paths' Alex thought to himself jokingly.

Still, Alex took one of the cans and put it in his pocket.

'But if it'll ease your mind even a little then I'll take them' 

Soon, Alex heard steps as Bella came down the stairs.

She immediately went to the dinner table and she grabbed a bowl of cereal for herself as well.

"Charlie gave us each a can of bear spray, take it with you," Alex said as he motioned to the can with his head.

"Bear spray?" Bella questioned as she took the can in her hand.

"There was a bear attack yesterday night, that's why he had to go to the police station today," Alex said as he sat on the couch, awaiting the arrival of Alice and Edward.

Bella nodded to herself and took the spray can.

Soon, Alex heard the roar of a car in the distance.

"They are here," Alex said as he stood up.
