The Giant's Fall

The rain only got heavier, the rain drops got thicker and the screams got louder and louder.

But still no drop of blood, even with all the dead bodies all over the place. People were squirming on the floor from the pain, while others were huddled on the ground praying, and some were using the dead corpses of their friends to cover themselves, but with time the corpse would have so many holes that the rain would reach the person underneath.

"By the gods, is this our retribution for all we've done." The giant man with the axe said, using it as an umbrella. The axe was of good quality, hence it not melting like the other weapons on the ground.

A bandit carrying a metal chest piece armor on top of his head saw the giant, desperate and scared, he ran towards his Boss, trying to get under the axe's coverage with him.

"MOVE" Yelled the giant, kicking the man back. A drop hitting him square in the head ending his life.

"These morons are dropping like Stingflies, I should get out of the area" He thought, looking around.

"Oh god" Peter mumbled, looking at the scene in front of him in horror. What scared him was not only the screams coming from inside the camp, but also the bodies upon bodies laying in front of him.

There were some Bandits lucky enough to be close to the exits, seeing what was happening they ran trying to leave the vicinity before suffering the same fate, only dying to a Fire Arrow coming from the woods.

Saya was standing guard, taking out whomever got lucky enough to not get hit by a droplet of rain.

"Matias, you said that's a Level 5 Advanced spell, does that mean there are ranks even among the spells in the same Level?" Asked Link.

"Of course, there are Basic spells, Intermediate Spells and Advanced Spells in every Level" He answered.

"So there are Level 0 Advanced Spells as well?" Asked Link.

"Haha" Matias laughed, "Of course not. Level 0 Spells are what children use, they are the basics of the basics, created by the Great Mage Quinn to help people practice magic, but now they're used for chores and what not."

"Will i be given Spells at the academy?" Said Link, Looking at the sky again, admiring Saya's powers.

"Usually, students bring their own, either bought them or gifted to them by their parents" Said Matias, puffing his chest "My mana is still average, but i got even Level 6 spells in my storage bracelet" Said Matias, pulling his sleeve back showing a grey bracelet decorated with shiny jewels.

Link looked at it with greed, thinking about how powerful he would become if he got his hands on it.

"Don't get greedy Link, No one can access this but me" Said Matias, noticing Link's familiar look. Since he's a prince, getting powerful Magical Equipment or Spells was easy for him, but whenever people would see them they'd envy him and greed would show.

"Sorry," Link continued "So is Level 6 the strongest Spells?"

"No, but I'm just the 7th prince remember" Said Matias," Even my dear elder brother has only Level 8 Spells. I have no idea how far they go."

"Incredible" Link thought, looking at the sky "If Level 5 Advanced Spells are that powerful, then how strong are the rest."

Seeing Link's expression, Matias wanted to make something clear.

"Spell books are Spells previously thought of and created by powerful magicians. Even the Spell Master Saya is using is one of her own, Spells bought are Intermediate at best, and too pricey. The ones that use them are considered Novice Mages." Said Matias.

"Novice Mages?" Link asked.

"Yeah, since they are a shortcut to power." He continued "And that's never a good thing"

"I understand" Said Link.

"So it's like someone who cheated, having no experience or control" He thought.

*Wosh

A Fire Arrow shattered, sending Fire Crystals everywhere.

"Who are you, Show yourself" The giant man yelled, looking around.

*Wosh

*Wosh

Suddenly, two Fire Arrows left a blur, going straight at the Giant. He swung his Axe in a wide swing, destroying them, but his chest was left open.

The ground pulsated, a thick spike coming straight at the Giant, aiming at his heart.

The attack was successful. Lifting him off his feet, but the spike didn't seem to be able to penetrate the man, making him only fall to the ground with a loud thud.

"Fucking Mages" The giant mumbled, standing back up. His shirt was torn from the attack, he reached out and removed what was left from it, revealing a shiny red Armor underneath.

"Making an opening was worth it, now I know where you're hiding, Rat" He yelled, looking at the direction of Saya and Peter.

Peter was panicking, taking multiple steps back, while Saya was smiling.

"Finally, i was getting bored" she mumbled under her breath.

The Giant held his axe to his side, and dashed in their direction. The sound of his footsteps loud and heavy.

Saya's smile widened, letting out a chuckle.

She lifted her arm, sending several Fire Arrow towards the man, but they failed, smashed by his axe again.

"Keep trying, it'll never work on me" The giant yelled, his speed increasing.

Saya started casting Spells while stepping back, several symbols floating and sinking into the ground.

"Arma" She mumbled, a wave of red energy went through her robe, slowly turning it into a leather armor, with the same color and the symbol of her robe. "This Beast Gear is really useful" She muttered, before dashing at the Giant.

Link was behind the house, a bow in his hand and a quiver full with arrows on his back.

The system hasn't been telling him anything, except showing the 'Updating' message whenever he spoke a command. He didn't know how long it'll stay like that, So Link wanted to check if his skills still worked at least.

After nocking an arrow in, he spoke "Radiant Arrow.."

...

Nothing.

"What the hell?" Link thought "I can't even feel any mana in my body, what did that god do"

Suddenly, everything went black, the sky, the sun, the sounds were slowly vanishing.

"You need to work for what you want, kid" A voice came from the darkness, the same familiar voice.

"It's you. What did you do with the system?" Link yelled back.

"I've been watching you, i might have made the system too overpowered, so i made a little adjustment. You'll have the system back by tomorrow, but it won't be the same." The voice echoed.

"What? What adjustments?"

"Do not worry kid, i will give you something equivalent to what i'll be taking away."

"Whatever" Said Link "You need me for something, don't you?" Link continued "You seem to be trying too much with me, you need me to be stronger for some reason, so i'll trust you for now, whatever it is you're doing."

"I do, but you can't help me yet." The voice answered.

"Figured, but i still don't understand why me?" Said Link.

"Doesn't matter for now, this is the last time i butt in. I used too much of my powers, I'm in need of rest, so try not to die for the next 5 years, or I won't be able to reset your soul." The voice spoke.

Suddenly the world started melting, Link could see his house, the grass and the sky appeared.

"Wasn't planning on dying," Link spoke to nothing, he walked back inside, putting his bow back in his room and rejoining the group outside, he sat on the floor looking up at Saya's spell, but he was thinking about something else.

A giant axe swung down at Saya but hitting air.

"Missed again," She said, provoking him.

The giant screamed, swinging his axe at her again. With every swing, gusts of air would move the bushes and leaves on the ground.

Saya was simply dodging, growing Earth Spikes whenever she sees an opening, but they always hit The Giant's Armor. Saya was agile, using mana and the air element to make her as light as a feather.

"Come on big guy, you can do it" She said, dodging another swing.

"STOP MOVING" He yelled, slamming his leg on the ground with enough strength, breaking it and creating random cracks and rocks. His plan was to make her lose her footing, making an opening for him to successfully land a hit with his axe, and he knew that's all he needed to end the fight.

Saya laughed, stepping back. Heading to her old spot.

"You think you can get away after killing my men" The giant yelled, dashed towards her.

Saya laughed again, sending Fire Arrow at him while moving. She knew they would be destroyed but it was enough to Agitate the Giant.

"AHH, YOU WORM" he yelled again, using the full force of his legs to push himself forward, only to push air.

"What the hell?" He thought, looking down.

Darkness.

A giant hole opened underneath him, leading to nothingness.

He screamed, trying his best to stretch his body trying to grab the edge, only missing. His voice slowly faded.

"Well, that was a good warm up" Saya spoke, looking down the hole.

This was a Level 4 Intermediate Earth spell. It's not very effective against people who use magic, or Powerful warriors, since they can use the walls to stop their fall and climb back up, but to a heavy Giant man, there wasn't much he could do, the perfect counter for him.

"Prope" Saya mumbled, the hole slowly filling itself in with the gesture of her hand.

"How rude, he didn't even say goodbye before leaving." She laughed, Peter behind a tree looking at her with fear.

"Alright kid, we're done here, you can go" She said, looking at Peter's direction.

"Go where?" He said, "The bandits raided my village last week, killing everyone, I have nowhere to go."

Saya sighed "Ok, follow me" As she walked back in the direction of Toula.
