I came flying out of the floo place and took off immediately towards the living room. Aunt Alice was in there reading the latest edition of the magazine "Plants you've never planted". It was a book for all the herbology lovers around the world. It has the details of all the newly discovered species of plants magical or otherwise.
"Hi, Aunt Alice! Bye, Aunt Alice" I shouted towards her while running towards the stairs to the upper floor where the boys' room was.
"Don't run on the stairs! RUBY" She shouted behind me.
"HAI HAI" I shouted back.
After Aunt Alice had decided that she would be the one taking care of both Neville and Harry and not hire a nanny for help, she had resigned from the Department of Magical Law Enforcement and dedicated her whole focus to becoming a mother to both her son and godson.
But as both Harry and Neville grew older and they started to become more and more independent, she found herself with lots of free time but she didn't want to go back to being an auror now that the war is finally just a part of the history books and long in the past.
So she decided to focus on an area that she was really passionate about in her early teen years. She was a prodigy in herbology and had a fierce love for planting and caring for plants since she was young. She even wanted to pursue mastery in it but then the war started and she put her focus into becoming an auror.
But now that she had both the time and talent for it, she put her all into it. And the result was that in the backyard of Longbottom's place was a huge field filled with all kinds of herbs and rare and exotic plants from all over the world. She was also one of the best suppliers of quality potion ingredients in all of Magical Britain.
I came across a hallway with two rooms opposite each other. The door on the left side had a sign that said "Danger! Enter at your Own Peril".
Sirius never should have taken the boys to the cinema to watch those teen movies, I mused after looking at the sign. I walked to the door on the left side and knocked loudly and repeated the same thing on the right side.
"NEVILLE! HARRY! come out" I shouted and stood in the middle of the hallway waiting.
The doors opened and from the left side came Neville in a brown T-shirt and blue shorts and simultaneously the opposite door also opened and harry came out in a green shirt and black pants with a book in his hands that had the title "Magical Drafts and Potions" by Arsenius Jigger.
Since he was young harry had been obsessed with anything to do with his parents and as many orphans are wont to do, he wanted to imitate his parents to feel closer to them. As he gets his fill of stories about his dad and mum from Sirius and Alice respectively.
He found out from them that his dad was very good at transfiguration magic and flying while his mom was similarly a potions savant.
Since he can't do transfiguration before going to Hogwarts and without having a wand. He started reading any and all books available to him that were on the topics of potions.
"Why are you shouting, I could've been working on a really dangerous potion You know," Neville said grouchily while leaning on the door.
"Ohh really but I can see the comic strewn on your bed from all the way here and is that Catwoman I see on there. My my, Neville you really are playing with danger in there" I said while looking around him towards the bed.
He got really flustered and closed the door hurriedly. Harry and I started snickering after seeing him like that.
"SHUT UP! It's just a batman comic Sirius gave me" he shouts with his face as red as a tomato. Seeing him embarrassed like that sends Harry and me into another bout of laughter.
"What do you want anyway," Neville asks gruffly while looking towards the floor.
"Do both of you want to go flying?" I asked them smilingly raising an eyebrow while showing them the broom in my hand.
"Of course we do " they both shout excitedly and run into their room to get their brooms, but Neville turns back towards me halfway through.
"But mom won't let us go without an adult with us," he asked me anxiously.
"Don't worry I got that covered, I was planning to ask Sirius anyway and he counts as at least half an adult" I replied.
"Alright" he runs back into his room to change and grab his broom.
"I am going to be downstairs, so come down as soon as you get changed" I shouted while going down the stairs.
"Are you planning to go flying with the boys?" Aunt Alice asked as she saw me coming down while looking pointedly towards the broom in my hands.
"Yeah," I said while going towards the floo.
"And where may I ask were you planning on flying?" She asked sweetly.
I was down on my knees in front of the floo and had a pinch of floo powder in my hands.
"In your backyard of course" I replied absentmindedly and suddenly felt a chill down my spine and a looming shadow from behind me.
"Oh ho ho... Silly me, old age must be catching up to me but I don't remember giving you the permission to fly over my precious plants in the fields" she continues in the same tone.
I turn around and see Aunt Alice's scary face above me and gulped feeling terrified.
"Please Aunty," I said while trying to make a really cute face that used to work on her when I was small.
"No definitely not! After the last time, when you boys destroyed my precious collection of dittany herbs that were just about to fully mature. You think I would even let anyone of you anywhere near my garden then you are sadly mistaken."
"And that's not even the worse of it, you did not even have the decency to tell me about it afterward. I found out about it just before I had to deliver them. You made me look like a fool in front of the client....."
She kept on lecturing me for what felt like an eternity. From behind her back, I saw both the boys come downstairs and looked towards me being lectured and ran back silently without having an ounce of sympathy towards me. They could have at least tried to distract her, those traitors.
After she ran out of fumes, I tried once again,
"Please Aunt Alice we will be really careful this time and we will not be playing catch the quaffle this time either and will be just flying over it very slowly, so there's really nothing to worry about"
"No means no" She remained stubborn.
"How about this, I will help you around your herbs for about 2 weeks and you let us fly in your backyard till I go to Hogwarts" I tried negotiating this time with my last resort.
She looked towards me considering my offer.
I don't know if it was because I am really proficient in wandless magic and my hands just exclude magic or something else but every herb that I had a hand in planting and caring for turned out to be a top-grade quality potion ingredient.
So because of that Aunt Alice had been trying for years to get me to help her in the garden.
She tries to entice me with the notion of really nice pocket money and I would have been enticed if I wasn't already earning from my other source. So I only help her out occasionally whenever I feel generous because I really hate getting working with soil and am not much of a herbology fan.
"Alright, You will help me in the garden for 2 hours every day for three weeks and any damage you boys do while flying will come from your pocket because I know that you're really rich even if I haven't been able to find out where you get your money from," she said while looking towards me with her eyes narrowed.
"Make it 1.5 hours and I get to choose any ingredient I need from your collection for my potions when I go to Hogwarts" I replied making a counteroffer.
"You've got yourself a deal," She said while smiling like she won a lottery and went back to sit on the sofa.
"You planned it from the Start didn't you" I pointed a finger at her accusingly.
"I don't know what you're talking about," She said while merrily reading her magazine and ignoring me.
I huff and turn towards the fireplace and seize the pot of Floo powder, and threw a pinch into the grate, causing emerald flames to burst into life there. I thrust my head into the dancing fire, and cried, "Number twelve, Grimmauld Place!"
My head began to spin as though I had just gotten off a rollercoaster ride though my knees remained firmly planted upon the cold floor. I kept my eyes screwed up against the whirling ash, and when the spinning stopped, I opened them to find myself looking out upon the long, cold kitchen of Grimmauld Place.
I've been doing this since forever but I still hate talking to people like this.
"SIRIUS! SIRIUS you there" I shouted towards the empty kitchen and after a while, I heard footsteps approaching from the door.
"Hey, Ruby! what's up" Sirius said eating a sandwich and waving his free hand.
"Hey Sirius, the brats and I were going to go flying in Aunt Alice's backyard. And we needed an "Adult" to watch over us so do you wanna come, " I asked him.
"Of Course, I am never gonna say no to flying. Give me five minutes and I'll be there after I get changed" He said while turning around and going back towards the stairs.
"Ok come directly to the garden" I shouted and pulled my head out of the fireplace.
After cleaning the soot off I turn around and find the boys standing there nonchalantly by the backyard entrance.
I pick up my broom and walked towards them slowly.
"Com'on you ungrateful brats let's go," I said after hitting both of them on their heads lightly for abandoning me to Aunt Alice's lecture and continued on towards the Garden.
"OUCH" They winced in sync and followed after me while rubbing their head.
