Preparation

War.

Over the years it was what brought down the most civilizations. In-fighting, out fighting, all the kinds of fighting. Wind thought it would never come to him again, he hoped.

That was not the case. A rival country, the Trahan Khanate, came knocking on their borders. Destroying his innocent Republic's forces like a child destroying a marriage. The Trahan were a unique people. Instead of going for the traditional giant capital ships, they opted for a smaller ship system and used it to remarkable effect.

Compared to the Republic they were newer maybe by four hundred years but they were in no ways less powerful, in fact, Wind wasn't confident in his country's power to defend against the invaders.

Not that he even cared, the Republic wasn't really even his country but simply just a place that he stayed at, but with instability, there was always death and Wind didn't want to be a simple civilian dumped in the edge of space.

He still had time, the Khanate would probably visit his planet last, probably. He got up out of his seat, he needed to start planning to leave. Wind got out and made his way to town, a couple of people milled about, waiting by the supplies outpost or by the port station. The colony wasn't important enough to have a large scale teleporter so they had to make to with smaller ships.

The only ship that they had was a brown colored old freighter which they used to transport goods and the rare passenger. The freighter that was usually in Old Doc's Shipyard was gone, usually it sat there lazying about except on food days but today it was gone. This only meant one thing, someone left.

Wind had a feeling that a lot of people would soon be leaving town. He took a deep breath in, the distinctive smell of oil, with a little bit of the harshness from the cold. He had to leave the planet. But without the ship, he had only one option, the system.

He ran all the way back home, there was no time to spare the preparations had to be done immediately. Otherwise, this was the first time he had opened up another section of the store.

There was so much, so much stuff that this system had. Wind wanted it all but looking at the little bits of Knowledge Points winking back, he knew that he had to try harder, he had to be stronger, be better.

But was 25 Knowledge Points enough to buy anything close to a spaceship?

"System can you show me all the cheapest options for spaceships?"

Wind was right, the system had what he needed but he wasn't sure about the functionality of it all. What could a painting really teach you about spaceship design, the answer was hopefully nothing because he bought the book.

The lights flashed, the birds sung, and there in his lap was the book. Slightly smaller, a little slimmer, looked as if it had seen better days but in general, it was a book.

Wind opened up the first page and was greeted by a painting, it was a spaceship but not one he had ever seen. It was, different. Something about it, not the body, not the thrusters, just something. It all just seemed to work.

He tore through all of the remaining pages. And soon he was done.

He was ecstatic, he finally had the tools in his hands. But shipbuilding took a lot of resources and a lot of time both of which he didn't have. The biggest thing blocking his path now was money, with enough money he could leave this damn place.

But first, he had to try his new skill out. And what better to test it on then his painting canvases. He took out his only pen, the one he had gotten when he was fleeing Jorax. It was time to draw some ships.

His pen whirled around sketching out a faint ship. He wanted to use the least amount of resources while still being able to get out, he also had to carry enough supplies to survive for a couple of months. After he had done his thoughts and drew the drawing was done.

He needed to train harder, the Khanate was not known to be particularly kind to citizens. He had heard the stories and didn't want the same thing to happen to him. He estimated that the Republic could only defend itself for a month and after that there was no telling what might happen.

Whether it was his painting skills or his "shipbuilding" skills if you could call it that needed improvement. But most of all he needed money and he knew how to get it.
