Mason looked at Ava and saw the relief on her face as they pulled out of her former neighborhood after they had dropped off Maddie at her apartment.
He knew she was scared of them running into her mother. He noticed how she kept looking at the side mirror and over her shoulders.
She was scared of so many things and he so badly wanted to ease her fears. She was yet to tell him what the doctor had said, but from the look of things, he suspected that she didn't have good news. He didn't care what the outcome would be, he was sticking to her no matter what and they are going to find a solution to whatever problem that they faced, starting with this one.
"Would you like us to stop by that restaurant to get some of those waffles you love?" Mason asked her as they drove home.
"No, I don't want to eat anything," Ava replied.
"You are sure?" Mason asked, throwing her a glance. "Not even the chocolate waffles?"
