"So Nidoking gave you the egg? Well, I think it likes you" said Professor Oak.
Alex went and reported the fact that he had gotten Nidoking's egg to Professor Oak. While it was Nidoking who made the decision to grant it to him, he had to tell the Professor, as it was his Nidoking after all.
"So can I keep this Pokemon egg Professor?" asked Alex.
"Of course. It's Nidoking's decision. I will respect it. In fact, I will give you another Pokemon egg, as a way to wish you good luck on your journey" said Professor Oak, as he pointed to an incubator with a light golden egg in it to the side.
"Professor? What egg is this?" asked Alex excitedly. He had studied and memorised a lot of Pokemon knowledge, and he could recognise most Pokemon eggs, save for some rarer ones. The fact that he couldn't identify this egg spoke volumes about its rarity.
"It's an Abra egg," said Professor Oak. "It is the descendant of Alakazam, and it personally approved you as its trainer. I was going to give it to you in a few days when you started, but now works just as well" said the Professor.
"Thank you Professor," said Alex happily.
"Charizard, Magneton, Lapras, Nidoking, Alakazam. Considering Blissey and whatever else you catch. You would have quite a team" said Professor Oak. "Which is why I would like to make you an offer, or challenge, any way you receive it" said Professor Oak.
"What is it Professor?" asked Alex.
"Do you remember the first place winner in the previous Indigo League?" asked the Professor.
"You mean the guy in this thirties with a team of 6 from the Hoenn region? What about him?" asked Alex.
Alex remembered the shameless guy that seemed proud of outcompeting kids. He was very smug every time he beat child after child who competed against him. But his team was uncountable strong. Alex couldn't tell their level as he had watched the broadcast, and had not watched it live, so he couldn't use his stat checker to find their exact level. But he theorized they were all in the Elite stage at least.
It was a team of Blaziken, Sharpedo, Mightyena, Hariyama, Aggaron and Manectric, as Alex remembered.
Including Gary, many people in Kanto were unhappy with this guy, both for winning the league and in general. Whether it was his age, his smugness, his full team from the Hoenn region, his comments on Kantonian Pokemon during one battle, all of it rubbed people the wrong way.
Alex even thought that he might be dead in a ditch somewhere by now, considering how hated he was.
"Well, he has put the word out that he is participating again this year. That itself is not a big deal. There are plenty of people who can put him in his place. The real problem is most of these people are also from regions other than Kanto" said Professor Oak.
Alex was momentarily taken aback by the actions of this shameless man who not only won the previous Indigo League shamelessly at his age, but also planned to return for this one.
It was an unspoken rule to not compete in the Indigo League even if it was allowed after a certain age, and not repeat the tournament more than once. The first rule was almost always followed, bar a few shameless exceptions. The second rule was sometimes ignored, but most of those who ignore the second rule are young and powerful trainers who were purchased the previous year due to bad luck, and wanted to try again.
It was totally unprecedented for both the rules to be broken simultaneously.
"So the officials of the Indigo League are unhappy with this and want a native from the Kanto region to win?" asked Alex.
"Yes. And not only that, they want the person to use a full team of 6 Pokemon from the original Kanto 150 Pokemon" said Professor Oak.
"Wow. That's quite the challenge" said Alex.
"Well, the rewards are generous too. I don't know what exactly they will give, but you will surely be satisfied. Plus, if you accept this challenge, they would tilt resources and attention to you by a lot. This can allow you to have a smooth journey in Kanto" said Professor Oak.
"I am in. Professor, what are the requirements?" asked Alex.
"Basically, you need to use Pokemon in the original Kanto 150. Only those. Even the evolutions of Pokemon in that list are not allowed. So you can use Flateon, Jolteon, and Vaporeon, but no Umbreon and Espeon" said Professor Oak.
"That's harsh" said Alex.
"Well, it's how it is. Plus, you are not banned from having other Pokemon or catching them. You just aren't supposed to use them in any official Gym battle, or the league itself" said Professor Oak.
"And as a reward from the Corall, if you complete this, I will give you the Shiny Beldum. Didn't you always want to be its trainer? If you do complete this, I will officially give it to you" said Professor Oak.
Hearing that Beldum would be the reward, Alex perked up instantly. "Yes, Professor! I will definitely complete this challenge. Is there some sort of registration or something?" asked Alex.
"Not officially. I will just have to inform some people you will be attempting the challenge" said Professor Oak.
Alex then went out with two Pokemon eggs in incubators. The Nidoran would hatch 6 days later, while the Abra would hatch in 5. Alex planned to wait for a month for them to grow up a bit, while he gathered resources and prepared the appropriate food for their futures.
He would then officially embark on his adventure in the Pokemon world.
