I moved as quickly and stealthily as I could between the ruined buildings makes my way toward the sound of the pained yowling and hissing, making it in a there 10 minutes.
And what I found was 4 Rattata surrounding a real big, light beige coloured cat, with a head that looks just a little bit oversized for its body with a gold oblong coin on its forehead, and a very curly tail….a meowth..
The meowth looks malnourished and bleeding from different spots all over its body as it fiercely fends off attacks from all sides with claws aglow, but it's clearly losing, and from the looks of it the Rattata don't plan on leaving this thing once it's unconscious….they were playing for keeps…
Meowth was howling and hissing in a desperate Hail Mary attempt to somehow scare off the aggressive rodents, and they weren't buying what it was selling, they knew it was on its last legs.
The meowth line are normally predators for rodents like rattata, but that doesn't mean the prey always go down easy or they even win all the time…sometimes they fuck up and become prey themselves, but it's rare for that to happen, because meowth are known as crafty hunters who won't attack unless they were positive they had a sure thing lined up…or so I was told when I asked about common Pokémon around Viridian
But judging by the looks of that meowth, this attack, if it actually attacked instead of got unlucky with a pack of aggressive Rattata, is more of of desperation…..it's so thin, it's cheeks are sunken and I can see it's ribs…
I can't help but see this as an amazing opportunity while at the same time an insanely dangerous risk if I got involved..
On the one hand, a Meowth can be a beast of a Pokémon when he evolves, an amazing all rounder, and it's desperate enough to need my help….and a few times drunk trainers told me desperate Pokémon were way easier to befriend if you saved them than ones you battle and capture..
On the other hand, if I fuck this up, not only do I not get the meowth, I might wind up dead…Rattata may be near the bottom of the totem pole of the food chain in the Pokémon world, but me as an underfed, borderline malnourished child with no real strength or experience in fighting or handling Pokémon….I reckon I'm lower on that pole than they would be….and there's 4 of em…
But, this seems like too good of an opportunity to pass up…I could probably outrun the Rattata if this goes tits up…hopefully..
But with a plan in my mind I take out a pokeball and the sealed Tauros jerky I was going to have for lunch before slightly exposing my position I was hiding from behind the ruined building…
The Rattata all had their backs to me but the meowth was facing my way and noticed me almost instantly, but it didn't look at me for more than half a second as it refocused its full attention on the threat right in front of it…
My plan was the Rattata would choose the jerky over the meowth and give me enough time to ball him and bail….from what I heard wild Rattata were pretty easily distracted, especially with food.
I waved to get the meowths attention, and while it wasn't looking at me I could see it was watching me out of the corner of its eye..
I waved again as I unshrunk the pokeball in my hand and pointed toward the meowth, trying to see if it would understand my game of charades, and then point to the pokeball..
The meowth almost imperceptibly nods as it quickly looked into my eyes before it turned its head back to the danger at hand…
It understood…..well at least I hope it did….
The Rattata still haven't noticed me yet which is great, because it would make this much harder if they did….
I quickly opened the packet of tauros jerky, and luckily I'm upwind so the moment I did, the Rodents all stop for a second to sniff the air as meowth took that chance to burst through the big rat barricade as fast as it could, barreling towards me…
The Rattata stopped their rapid nose twitching and start screeching at the meowth that just barged past them…but as they do, they notice a reddish packet of something flying over their heads that caught all of their attention causing their vision to follow its trajectory..
They all instantly ignored the injured and bleeding meowth fleeing my way in favour of fighting over who was going to get to that packet of deliciousness first…
Meowth was hauling ass right toward me, not bothering to look back at its would be killers…I had the pokeball held out toward it and with no hesitation it ran right into it before turns into a blob of red light and being sucked straight into the ball, no wiggle, no nothing. Just a distinct *ping!* and meowth was caught
I did not trust my aim to throw a pokeball accurately at all…they made it look so easy in the anime, but I wasn't going to take a chance.
Without celebrating or relishing in my first step to not being walked all over in this new world, i immediately imitated my new cat Pokémon and hauled ass out of there as fast as I could back to my little pull cart, and with all the strength I could muster out of my little body I started pulling it back home…
It only took half an hour, a few near collisions and leg and back muscles that probably won't be working tomorrow to get back home..
Quickly leaving my cart out from I rushed upstairs to find some bleach to sprinkle around outside, I made sure I bought a good few gallons of the stuff and stashed it here
It Was a tip I got from a few different retired trainers that I sold stolen cigarettes too, that Rattata hate bleach, any Pokémon with really strong smell do, they try and steer clear of areas with it spread around…it's is a good substitute for repels if you don't have any….apparently repels don't actually have a smell so, it's weird how that works..
But after a quick dousing around the building and the cart that I was to tired to try and drag upstairs, I made my way back up with a heavy step, exhausted both physically and mentally from that rescue/capture.
I got back to my little hidey hole of a home on the third floor and looked around, the fire was still burning but was smouldering so I threw a few more pieces of wood in to keep it going..
Checked through my stuff to make sure no Pokémon or person gotten too it, all clear, it looked like…
But while searching through my stuff I pulled out a silver metal bowl id found in one of my trash runs….of course I cleaned it thoroughly afterwards
It was a bit dinged up but besides that it was still good, no idea why someone would throw that out…
I also pulled out a potion that I pinched from Miss Bs room for meowth when I let it out….meowth agreed to join me, sorta….but I'm still going to take precautions and release this guy on the second floor…I don't want him going berserk and destroying my stuff for whatever reason ..
So with silver a silver bowl, potion and 6 cans of this worlds equivalent of spam in hand I make my way down to the second story
Once I arrive I fill the bowl by emptying the spam cans into it, check how to use the potion properly and pull the pokeball out of my jacket ready to hopefully meet my new companion and not my stray, powerful and ungrateful waste of a pokeball
