Chapter 5: 'Training'

<><><><><><>

The warship sped through the sea, trailing a long rope behind it.

Kuzan watched Arashi several hundred meters away with increasing admiration for the boy.

He knew all too well how crazy and cruel Garp's training could be, pushing human endurance to its limits and beyond, often to the point of death.

But they would emerge as a formidable warrior if one could endure it.

"The Golden Lion is causing trouble again!" Kuzan commented. "And Roger has been quiet for a while."

Not paying attention to the boy he had just taken under his wing, Garp was reading a report from Kong that had arrived recently.

His brows furrowed as he picked up on some nearly instinctual information from the brief report. "Edd War Sea," he muttered, his gaze turning serious.

The time was 1497 of the Sea Circle Calendar, the peak era of the three legendary pirates, driving the world into a frenzy.

Many other notorious pirates who would later become infamous were also active, wreaking havoc across the seas.

"Vice Admiral Garp, are we going after them?"

Kuzan asked with a youthful, energetic demeanor that contrasted with his later laid-back attitude as an Admiral.

"Of course!" Garp laughed heartily.

"We'll head to the New World and rendezvous with Sengoku and Zephyr! But..."

He paused, looking at another piece of intelligence about a distress call from an island near the Sabaody Archipelago.

"For now, this matter takes priority."

Unbeknownst to him, the warship changed course, causing Arashi, who was dragged behind, to be flung high into the air before crashing back into the sea with a splash.

The experience was akin to being dragged by a car on land but far more painful due to the force of the crashing waves and the numerous fish in the water.

Worse still, these fish were carnivorous.

"Damn it, does that old man even consider the survival rate of his training?" Arashi cursed, only to be silenced as seawater flooded his mouth.

Two hours into the training, he was devoured by the piranhas and died again. But soon, he revived.

The biting of the piranhas was excruciating, their relentless tearing feeling like being cut by a thousand blades.

Arashi fought desperately against them, each fish about a foot long with huge heads and sharp teeth capable of biting through steel.

Holding the rope with one hand, he fought back with the other hand and both feet.

Through this life-and-death struggle, Arashi discovered another unique trait.

After each death, his injuries fully healed, and his strength, reaction speed, and overall speed increased.

Like a Saiyan, each death and subsequent revival made him stronger.

In the following time, Arashi had to contend with the ocean and the piranhas.

His system points quickly reached 60, indicating that he had died ten times since Garp had kicked him into the sea.

However, these ten deaths brought significant improvements. He reaped sweet rewards after each exhausting, painful ordeal, growing ever stronger.

His physical changes were becoming evident, with more defined muscle lines, fuller pectorals, and cut abdominal muscles, all hinting at the immense power within.

'Death increases system points and can enhance overall strength based on the current physical foundation by a certain multiplier.'

'This enhancement will become even more noticeable as your strength increases,' Arashi reflected.

'And you can't exploit the system; self-inflicted deaths won't grant any points.'

Nearly ten hours had passed, and through his repeated experiences of death and pain, Arashi had gained a deeper understanding of his mysterious ability.

He made an initial assessment: perhaps there were other undiscovered functions, but what he had already discovered was immensely useful.

His immortality ensured he would never be defeated, and dying only strengthened him.

As his system points reached 65, his power had increased significantly.

He could now handle the raging sea and the relentless attacks of the piranhas with ease.

Deliberate deaths wouldn't increase his points, and letting the piranhas bite him was excruciating.

Arashi fought back fiercely, his punches exploding the bodies of the troublesome fish, driving them away.

Then, in the vast ocean, he grabbed the rope with one hand, leaped up, and began surfing on the waves.

This sight was a stark contrast to his earlier struggle.

"Awesome, Arashi! You've adapted to the training!" Kuzan shouted in amazement from the warship, noticing the boy's progress.

Garp, who had been dozing on the deck, woke up abruptly, his snot bubble popping. His eyes widened in surprise.

"He's adapted so quickly?" Garp thought, astonished.

Having personally tested this kind of training, he knew that the speed of the warship and the impact of the seawater were just part of the challenge.

The real danger lay in the sea creatures.

He recalled that someone had once died during his training, which led to severe reprimands from Sengoku and Fleet Admiral Kong.

"This kid's talent exceeds my expectations!" Garp mused. He grabbed the rope and gave it a mighty pull.

In an instant, the boy was yanked from the sea, flying through the air toward the warship.

As he reached the stern, he flipped and landed steadily on the deck, water spraying around him.

Kuzan, watching excitedly, noticed the boy's significant transformation.

"He seems stronger now," Kuzan thought, stunned. "How is that possible?" How could anyone undergo such a drastic change in such a short time?

"Vice Admiral Garp!" Arashi said, looking up, his voice steady.

"This training is deadly. I've drowned three times and been bitten by piranhas twelve times!"

Though he was immortal, the pain of dying was like a nightmare no one would want to endure.

"Ha, I saw that," Garp replied, grinning. "But you're still alive, aren't you? And stronger!"

He showed no concern for Arashi's pain; his eyes only held admiration.

"It looks like I can finally try that training regimen I've always imagined!" Garp said, his eyes gleaming with excitement.

Arashi's face fell, recognizing the dangerous glint in Garp's eyes. He could tell that this new training regimen would be even more brutal.
