Reno had already planned to visit Wano after the disbandment of the Roger Pirates. His trip would not only serve to rescue Kozuki Oden—his future father-in-law—but also to set up plans for Hiyori.
Though he wasn't exactly keen on saving Oden, he knew failing to do so would make it difficult to face Hiyori, his future wife. Hence, he resigned himself to the task.
Of course, Kozuki Oden had no idea what Reno was plotting. If he did, he'd likely go berserk and try to kill him on the spot!
When Oden heard Reno's explanation of the bet and its stakes, he sneered and agreed,
"Your so-called favor isn't worth much, but I'll play along. Let's hear this ridiculous plan of yours, kid."
Among everyone on the ship, Kozuki Oden and Reno were the least compatible. One had the soul of an adult trapped in a child's body, while the other had the body of an adult but the mind of a child. They clashed constantly, as if their personalities were fated to repel one another.
It was only recently that Reno decided to add "Kozuki Hiyori" to his nurturing list, largely as revenge. Oden had been bossing him around incessantly, so Reno resolved to repay the favor by employing the ancient art of "house-stealing."
He could already imagine Oden's expression when he won Hiyori's heart in the future. It would undoubtedly be priceless.
Ignoring Oden's taunts, Reno raised his chubby little hand and used his telekinesis to demonstrate. While releasing his ability, he explained to the crew,
"My plan is simple: I'll use my powers to get us out of the Marines' encirclement. The only reason you're stuck is because none of you can make everyone fly."
As Reno spoke, bottles and jars around the ship floated into the air, encased in a faint green aura—evidence of Reno's telekinetic control.
"Golden Lion Shiki's Float-Float Fruit ability?!"
The crew exclaimed in unison, utterly shocked.
Everyone aboard immediately thought of Shiki's ability. The resemblance was uncanny, as they had experienced firsthand the troubles caused by the Float-Float Fruit.
However, they were mistaken. This wasn't the Float-Float Fruit's power but the unique telekinesis that only Reno possessed.
Realizing their error, the crew quickly remembered that Devil Fruit abilities were unique. Unless the original user died, no one else could acquire the same ability. Since Shiki was still alive, Reno's power couldn't possibly be the Float-Float Fruit.
Reno rolled his eyes at their misunderstanding and clarified,
"This isn't the Float-Float Fruit. It's the Mind-Mind Fruit."
He deliberately passed his telekinesis off as a Devil Fruit ability to avoid unnecessary attention. Claiming it as a fruit power was the safest option in this world.
Continuing his explanation, Reno said,
"Whatever the Float-Float Fruit can do, I can also do—and more. For instance, I can make objects float without touching them."
While he described some basic applications of telekinesis, he refrained from revealing its combat potential. As the saying goes, "Do no harm, but be wary of others' intentions."
After all, they were not destined to stay on the same path forever. One day, they would part ways—and possibly even become enemies. Revealing his full hand now would be unwise.
After hearing Reno's explanation, the crew finally believed this was not the Float-Float Fruit but another Devil Fruit power altogether.
With his demonstration and brief introduction complete, Reno turned to Kozuki Oden with a smirk and said provocatively,
"Big guy, remember you owe me a huge favor now. Don't you dare die before paying it back!"
Oden gritted his teeth in anger at Reno's smug expression but couldn't refute him.
With Reno's ability, the Marines' encirclement was no longer an issue. Oden had lost the bet fair and square.
Suddenly, an idea struck Oden. His expression turned smug as he said,
"Your ability might be impressive, but it still consumes stamina. Just how far can a little brat like you carry us? Ten meters? Twenty?"
The crew, who had just relaxed, grew tense again. All eyes turned to Reno, hoping he had a viable solution.
Although they agreed with Oden's concerns, they also trusted Reno's judgment.
Despite his age, Reno had always been remarkably self-reliant. Unlike most kids, he never needed supervision or care. His strong sense of responsibility reassured them that he wouldn't propose a reckless plan.
Roger turned to Reno and asked,
"Little Reno, since you brought up this plan, I assume you've already thought of a way to address the stamina issue, right?"
Instead of answering Roger, Reno glared at Oden and accused,
"Big guy, are you trying to back out of the bet because you can't handle losing?"
Oden's face turned as black as the bottom of a pot. He shouted angrily,
"I'm a man! How could I possibly back out of a bet? Watch your mouth, you little punk!"
Rayleigh, seeing the two bicker endlessly, finally intervened,
"Enough, both of you. We're nearing our destination. Focus on the rescue mission first. The rest can wait."
At this point, their ship was already close to the Marines' encirclement. If the argument continued, they wouldn't have time to devise a plan before reaching the danger zone.
Once both Reno and Oden fell silent, Rayleigh turned to Reno and asked,
"Little Reno, how long can your stamina support us? And if it's not enough, do you have a workaround? Tell us everything."
