108. Medical Fraud

The conversation about which surname I am going to be answering stays on my mind throughout the night. Having arrived home a few minutes past 3 am in the early morning, Michael had long gone to bed.

It is not as if I am expecting him to stay up all night waiting for me, but it would have been nice if he had.

I wake up this morning to several missed calls from Chloe. The first thing that comes to my mind on seeing the calls is that she must have gotten the results about the DNA tests.

"Sarah, the worst has happened."

Her first words echo back at me. I lick my dry lips as I think of what to say.

"What exactly happened, Chloe?"

"She isn't mine, Sarah! She is not mine."

Her reply makes me sit up from my lying position on the couch. I have dozed off on it while having a drink and recalling the events of the night.

"What do you mean by she is not yours?"

"That was what the test result said!"
