Black Beaked Owl

Crack!

Sound of an object slowly being broken could be heard.

This sound instantly drew Celes's, now a 5-year-old, attention. The time had finally come, 'coz this was the sound of the egg which was chosen, no… given due to a lack of choice, as Celes's partner during the awakening ceremony.

It was a mutated black beaked owl's egg which measured a shocking foot in diameter and 3 feet in length. The egg itself was brownish red in colour with black spots all over. Though it sounded amazing, it was actually one of the weakest creatures that could be obtained as a partner, not even having the potential to reach the spiritual awakening stage, which is similar to a human's spiritual master stage.

Even a mutated beast only had increased skills and might have a chance to reach a slightly higher stage due to it having traces of some formidable beast's bloodline; this, however, was nearly 1 in a million.

Ta..ta..Cracckk!

"Oh, Brian! Look look…Celes's hunting brother is finally hatching~" Elina who was cooking in the kitchen nearby, was alerted by the loud hatching noises made by the egg.

Listening to the good news, Brian ran over, still in his farming clothes, leaving all his field work for later.

Thuk

A large piece of the egg fell out, revealing a beak which was protruding from inside;

Everyone had a tensed expression on their face as they watched the final moments of hatching.

The owl pulled back its beak to go for round two…or at least it tried to, but couldn't as it had gotten stuck in its previous attempt to peck out. Anxiously, it tried yanking it out, however, lost balance while doing so and…splat!

The egg broke on coming in contact with the hard-marbled floor, spilling the shell and its contents all over.

The chick lay on its back as it saw 3 towering figures looking at it. A short one in the middle, closest to it, and two taller ones on either side of the short one; These three were none other than Celes and his parents- Elina and Brian.

It suddenly felt warmth, as the smaller giant, Celes, picked it up in his hands and brought it to his eye level.

After checking its condition by lifting its now featherless wings, it heard a something being whispered to it "Eggwu… Eggwu Vajra".
