Chapter 48: First Mission

The days after the bell test were relatively simple, with them only doing D ranked missions around the village.

The war had begun to wind down from the other nations as the 2nd Mizukage and the 2nd Tsuchikage killed each other in one of their battles, afterwhich the two nations reached an agreement to stop their hostility. The Sand also left the war after the assassination of the 2nd Kazekage, said to have been done by his political enemies. That meant Konoha was only having to face Kumogakure before the 1st Great Ninja War finally ended. Tobirama still tried his best to have the newly graduated genin remain in the village while the war was still ongoing.

Tsunade was shocked to learn that Tora the cat had an ancestor named Tory, and the little bastard seemed to act just like his descendant.

However what made Tsunade the angriest was the fact that Hiruzen seemed to not wish to teach them anything useful.

While she might not personally like the guy do to his future self, that didn't mean she didn't wish to learn from him, especially since he would be extremely knowledgeable in ninjutsu in the future.

On that note, Tsunade was unable to truly grasp the true nature of Hiruzen. While the anime showed him as a kind and nice grandfather most of the time, he also allowed multiple clans to be annihilated under his rule, with Danzo practically having half the power of the Hokage and even overruling Hiruzen. Most fanfics that Tsunade read in her previous life usually theorized that he was even darker than Danzo in terms of plots and was the true Darkness behind Konoha. However, the current Hiruzen was kind and didn't seem to hold an ounce of darkness inside of him, with him mostly smiling while with them and talking about his girlfriend Biwako. He adored the Senju Clan since that was the clan of his sensei. And although he didn't seem to be in love with the Uchiha's, it wasn't to the extent that he hated them. He also seemed to like peeping with Jiraiya, though a few punches made him change his mind about it. All in all, Tsunade was unable to properly decide on Hiruzen's personality, though she would still be careful around him.

The team walked inside of the Hokage's Office where Tsunade saw Tobirama sitting right behind the desk with his usual cold appearance.

"It seems you have already found Tory. That's good. I have another mission that'll have you painting the fence of one of the Hyuga clansmen."

However, just as Hiruzen was about to agree, Jiraiya objected.

"Come on Uncle Tobirama, I'm tired of these lame D ranked missions. Give us something more exciting, please." Jiraiya said.

Just as Tobirama was about to respond, Orochimaru also voiced his opinion as he said "Not to be rude Lord Hokage, but I believe that with our strength, even if we encounter enemy shinobi, we will be able to incapacitate them."

Tobirama was then completely silenced by his granddaughter as she said "I agree grandpa. We will be completely safe since all the powerful shinobi were mostly on the frontlines."

After a few seconds of contemplation, Tobirama let out a sigh as he though 'It seems I can't keep her in the village until the end of the war, Elder Brother.'

"Fine. Due to the war, we've been unable to eliminate the bandits around the Land of Fire like we usually do. Your mission is a C ranked mission this time, which is to eliminate the largest camp of bandits that have been harassing many of the smaller villages." Tobirama said while handing Hiruzen the mission files.

Hiruzen then turned towards his students as he said "We'll leave in 1 hour, meet me at the village gate."

The three immediately left to get ready, with Hiruzen about to follow, though he was stopped by his sensei.

"Hiruzen." Tobirama said while staring Hiruzen directly in the eye, causing him to feel a massive amount of pressure on his shoulders.

"Protect my Granddaughter." Tobirama said, no, ordered Hiruzen.

"I understand Lord Hokage." Hiruzen said, as he understood that this was not a request from his sensei, but an order from his superior.

He quickly left the Hokage Building, leaving Tobirama who was standing near the window while overlooking the entire village.

"Be safe Tsuna." he whispered.
