It hadn't even been a day since he arrived, but the old man by the name of Genji had me and the girls all fuming. From bad-mouthing us as if we were slaves to outright threats of violence.
"The hell is this wine? Piss poor quality!" He complained, hammed out of his mind.
Laying intoxicated on the couch, he kept on testing my patience by calling for me every other second. Biting down on my rage, I bowed to hide my face before it contorted from anger.
"I'll have someone bring us better wine, Master Genji," calling him master was an insult to injury, but referring to him any other way riles him up unnecessarily.
"Like hell, you will, I don't have that much time! Just bring the damn food!" Throwing the bottle by my feet, he smashed him really close to my face as I was bowing.
"Jeez!" One of the twin girls yelped in shock as she noticed the sight.
Turning my gaze to them, I felt nothing but sympathy for the two as they sat far away from the drunk at the interior hall's dining. Faking a smile, I reassured the two that I was completely fine. Bringing my attention back to the old man, I smiled at him as well. Dressed only in his trousers, he was acting high and mighty but I bet one kick in the mouth would be enough to shut him up entirely.
"I'll send someone to clean this up, and your food will arrive soon after," saying that I was about to be on my way, but then the bastard said one more thing.
"It better be, I've been goddamn starving since I came here!" The girls chuckled in the distance at his lie. After all, laying in front of him were countless food plates, half-eaten, half toppled over the carpet.
"I'll make this swift don't worry," that last bit really burst a nerve in my head, had he just kept his mouth shut I would've done exactly as he ordered, but now, there was no way I could let this bastard boss me around like that.
Storming out of the room, I headed straight for the kitchen to meet up with Maiko. On my way, however, I met with Cinder who was more than happy to clean up the mess back in the old man's room. I chose her to do it instead of Senya because even if the bastard tried to touch her, she could easily burn him away. Besides, she loved to work, unlike our only other maid.
"Again?" The moment Maiko saw me enter the kitchen; she already knew why I was there. Getting off her stool, she picked up her wand and heaved a tired sigh. She's been the one most worked by the guests, and those heavy eyelids of hers were a glaring proof of it. "Another pudding, pie? What is it this time?"
"He wants another meal, a second dinner I'd call it," moving closer, I grabbed the wand out of her hand and put it back down on the counter. "But…I was thinking about giving him something else."
Inked with suspicion, Maiko frowned deeply. Glaring at me for a moment, she tried to judge what I had in mind, but she was no psychic.
"He's intoxicated beyond damn reason, no better chance to put the bastard in his place," I told her.
Shocked by the proposal, she took a step back with an audible gasp. Covering her mouth with her hand, she stared at me for a while longer. However, as curiosity grew in her eyes, she put her hand down to ask.
"What do you plan to do exactly?" Although a bit hesitant, she appeared to be on board with my thinking.
"A spell, something that could make this guy pay for what he's done, and maybe even bring his arrogance crashing down!" Blinking her eyes at my words, Maiko's confusion was apparent. She couldn't believe what I was saying, even I couldn't tell if those words really came out of me.
I've always tried to be on the sidelines, never getting in any trouble, but now…I just can't for some reason. I feel a draw towards the extreme that makes me want to take action, and do something against a person with authority for once!
"Why do this? You know messing with him can be dangerous," she whispered as if fearful of being overheard.
"I…" Taking a deep breath, I thought back to the entire week I'd spent with these girls. "I hate him, and the embassy."
"But why?" She asked, inching closer.
Peering up at me with anticipation, she almost seemed expectant for a specific kind of answer.
"Because they've hurt you, all of you," moving my hand on her cheek, I caressed it gently before pulling her close. "Monster or not, I can tell you one thing. Humans are worse, especially the ones with any authority in this nation."
Her lips quivered to speak for a moment, but keeping shut, she pressed her head against my chest. Wrapping my hands around her, I finally understood why I was getting so angry at the guest. It wasn't only because of how unbearable he was, instead, it was the fact that he represented authority. An authority that has tried to trample on these girls just as much as it has trampled on me in the past.
"T-thank you," Maiko whispered before pulling away from my chest.
Getting on her toes, she grabbed my face and planted a brief peck on my lips.
"So…" Taking a few steps back, she beamed a smile. "What do you have in mind?"
And that was exactly what I wanted to hear. Smiling back at her, I shared with her what I had in mind. At first, she was left blushing at my suggestion, but then thinking it through even she couldn't help but find it a hilarious plan.
"Senya would enjoy this," she mentioned, chuckling.
"So will Cinder and Rin," Walking backward towards the kitchen's entrance, I kept my eyes fixed on her. "I'll go let them in on the plan while you prepare everything,"
Watching her nod back, I turned around and headed up to find the rest of the girls. If everything worked as planned then this old man wouldn't dare treat anyone the way he's treated us. But more importantly, he could never lift a finger or advise the embassy to harm defenseless monsters in their own home again.
'Let's hope this works, otherwise we're fucked.' Even if there was a chance that this could fail, I just couldn't let this opportunity slip out of my hands. 'Not after what those people at the orphanage did to us.'
Shaking my head, I tried not to reflect too much on those grim memories. I'd already lost many friends and family, I don't wanna lose any more.
