5: The Hunting of Goblins

James was so eager to kill he hadn't even realized how little he didn't care for another being's life, to him they're all just some sweet XP and attribute points. His soul was beginning to change, was it due to his erased memories, him having the body of a savage lizardman, or was it simply he had these killer instincts hidden in him from the start?

1. Kill all the goblins within the caves

2. Kill the chief and obtain his treasure

"My first quest hell yeah! I wasn't sure if it would even give me any quests since so far anything I've done never gave me any, granted I have mostly screwed around. At least now I know it's possible, but I wonder what other things I can do with the system?"

"Whatever I'll figure it out later cause right now I got a quest to do!"

James started heading back towards the goblin cave. Unknown to him he was being watched from afar.

After finally making it the treeline a little before the goblin cave James crouched down by a bush to check things out, even if it is just goblins James would rather be careful than throw caution to the wind completely.

"There's nobody here this time which I don't know how to feel about, it could be that the guards are still reporting to their chief which means I could surprise them before they get out here, but if I'm wrong and they're waiting for me this could get ugly. Either way I need to go in so I guess I gotta take that chance."

James started to get up, but just then he hears noises from the cave and the two guards from before come out this time with four other goblins that are a foot taller than the others standing at around 4ft each with slight differences and were all a darker shade of green with clubs made out of rock and bone.

"That looks like the goblin the wolf had killed earlier, I'm guessing those are hobgoblins or something close to that. Those clubs might be able to do some damage to me in particular so I'll have to kill them first."

James circled to the closest bush to the cave that's 15ft away from the goblins so he could get the jump on them. The hobgoblins were distracted harassing the goblin guards so it was easier for James to get around unnoticed.

"It's now or never!"

James sprints out of the bushes as fast as he could to close the distance. Three of the hobgoblins and the two guards didn't notice James coming, but the last hobgoblin noticed just before James was about to tear two of the other hobgoblin's throats so he swung his club at James' right arm.

"Damn!"

*WHACK*

James was thrown back a few inches and noticed his right forearm had cracks on his scales and was lightly bleeding.

"You shithead, those clubs are gonna be a problem after all! Luckily I've already succeeded at my ambush."

The two hobgoblins James went after were laying on the ground their throats tore open blood pooling around their heads. The other two hobgoblins were pissed off especially the one that barely wounded James, and the two goblin guards were scared witless after James' last appearance but even more so now at seeing two of the stronger members of their tribe die before their eyes without any way to fight back.

James took this as an opportunity, he dashed at the two guards picked them up and threw them at the hobgoblins. The hobgoblins tried to stop him, but were to slow and couldn't evade because of it and the goblin guards slammed into them so they fell back and couldn't get up right away which gave James the time he needed to kill them all quickly.

James stabbed his claws into the first goblins body as he stomped on the hobgoblin's skull beneath him kill them both then jumped over to the last two, but the hobgoblin pushed the guard off and rolled away as best he could. James killed the goblin guard, but missed the hobgoblin.

The hobgoblin still alive is the same one that cracked James' scales and seemed to be at least a little smarter than the others so far. The hobgoblin picked up his club and snarled at James then jumped at him swinging his club at his left side.

James dodged to the right and cut the hobgoblin's left side with his claws to slow him down a little.

The hobgoblin gave in to his rage and recklessly charged at James swinging wildly in it's fury, but that was the worst choice it could have made.

"You're annoying."

James dodged the hobgoblin's strikes then swung his tail smacking the hobgoblin on this injured left side flinging him towards the ground then stomped on his hand holding the club, picked him up by his throat.

"Thanks for the snack!"

*CHOMP*

*CRUNCH*

James bit into the hobgoblin's skull killing it in the process.

"Nice, that was really gross though and I have bone bits from his skull stuck in my teeth so I probably shouldn't do that again. Time to move on before they notice, after all that was just the beginning of the hunt!

(Before going inside James took bites out of each goblin and hobgoblin gaining 6 evolution points for a total of 215 evolution points and gaining 12 Free Attribute Points from the encounter)
