A broken shell

After the human-vampire treaty signed 49 years ago, both parties had retreated to their respective areas.

The continent was divided into two parts, the north and the south. Humans lived in the northern area and the vampires in the southern.

There was a border separating the two regions which was heavily guarded by forces of both humans as well as vampires.

The 50 year treaty period was about to come to an end and both races were preparing for a bloody war that was about to begin.

Only 1 year was left and humans were training their forces and using every possible asset available to them. The younger generation being one of them.

Government had issued an order that all young people above the age of 17, whether Wielders or the fallen had to join the military camp to prepare for the war. They had no choice in the matter.

Everybody had to comply with the order, no one would want to go against the military. They simply did as they were told.

All cadets would be trained for an entire year, their strength would be improved and they would be taught everything there is to know about war. That was the basic ideology behind the order issued by the military.

Alciel being a highschool graduate who was about to be over the age of 17 also fell under the order and thus had to join the military.

.....

Alciel got out of the school building and leisurely proceeded towards his home. He had done enough thinking for today and was very hungry.

He admired the beautiful surroundings, the moss covered buildings, tall green trees on the sides, green refreshing grass on the ground which was shining under the summer sun and the blue cloudless sky.

For a moment, Alciel let go of all his thoughts and feelings. He enjoyed the moment of peace and harmony.

The moment was short lived however as Alciel regained clarity and the burdens of his life resurfaced washing away all his comfort.

Wasting no more time, Alciel headed back home.

It took him a few minutes by foot to get there. His home wasn't that far away from school thus it didn't take him much time.

He looked at his house which wasn't too shabby. It was a two storied house with white walls. It had a brown roof with some traditional designs.

Alciel entered the house and headed right towards his kitchen.

Without taking off his uniform, Alciel got to cooking. He didn't have to go to school anymore, so it didn't matter if his uniform was in a good condition or not.

He fried two eggs and prepared some toast. He didn't want to eat something too fancy, just some food which could satisfy his appetite.

Alciel quickly ate up the food to fill up his belly. He had been starving since morning as he didn't have any lunch at school. That is because the lunch lady refused to sell him anything. It was just one of the discriminations he faced.

Alciel then washed up the dishes and went straight for the bed. It was already 6 in the evening and Alciel wanted to get a goodnight sleep. He couldn't get a good night's rest for a week due to the tension of his future.

He just hoped that he could sleep well tonight or it would be another harsh night.

Alciel laid on the bed and closed his eyes. Today he was feeling extra tired and felt like he would sleep soon.

But things didn't go as planned...

Just a minute in and all kinds of thoughts surfaced in Alciel's mind. What would he do in the future? Was he going to die? Was there no way out?

Trying to get rid of these thoughts, Alciel turned left. But after a moment he felt his pillow was being rather uncomfortable, so he removed it.

More time passed and Alciel had already strangled himself in the web of his thoughts and worries.

At this point he was just paranoid. Even he, himself believed so.

Alciel got back up and looked around. Then he got out of his bed and walked up to the window. Sliding open the glass window, Alciel gazed upon the dark night sky filled with twinkling stars and breathed in a mouthful of air.

"What am I going to do? I am so frustrated. I don't want to die, I don't want to suffer like this. What have I don't to deserve this? Sigh~ Why does life hate me so much!?" Alciel said to himself as a deep sigh escaped his mouth.

"Damn it!"

*Thud*

Alciel slammed the wall with his fist and rage engulfed his heart "This isn't life! This is hell! I, who doesn't even have the privilege to enjoy the rest of the night. What have I done to deserve this?"

Alciel looked at the night sky with hatred "God! Do you hate me this much? What did I ever do to you?TELL ME!...I HATE YOU! You hear me, I HATE YOU!"

Alciel screamed on top of his lungs as tears ticked down his face. His knees gave out as he completely dropped on the floor.

Then Alciel completely broke down, more tears dropped down his face on his hands. The suffering he recieved all these years, the loneliness he felt and cold he always found himself in with no one by his side, all these thoughts resurfaced in his mind.

He didn't want to be like this. Even if he didn't admit it, he had always wanted someone to walk up to him and give him a warm smile. To love and care for him but no one ever did.

He wanted to experience the love of his parents but they never came. This left a scar on his heart, he always wanted to be happy like others but...why him.

"Why me?" While crying, the pathetic Alciel asked himself as more tears burst from his eyes. "I-".

Alciel wanted to say something but he was interupted by something. It was a sound, a strange mechanical sound.

Surprised by this, Alciel raised his head to look at the source of voice.

"T-This...can't be!"
