She ignored my whole protest and instead of listening to me, she was laughing at me the whole time I was explaining my side of the story.
I don't understand why I am even friends with her. She's completely the opposite of me.
I guarantee you, she's absurd right now.
"Did you hear what I said?" I protested.
She was still laughing.
And I let her laugh her arse out until she's particularly crying because of laughing. What's so funny about what I said? I told her the guy she called Matt was talking to me and I despise him very much.
"I can't believe you just said those words to him."
Why am I even telling her my agony if she's just gonna do this to me right now? But then I realized she's the expert in human interactions so maybe I need her advice to undone this misery. Well, I know I'm exaggerating.
"He was annoying and I don't like him. He gets what he deserves."
She was shaking her head from left to right like she was in disbelief and I don't understand why she was doing this gesture and she was clicking her tongue. I feel like an idiot.
"No girl. You are wrong. You are leading him on. He thinks you are his new prospect."
"What are you talking about? Shut up! I am not leading him on. He was very annoying, that's why I was trying to cut him off. I guess he got all my messages wrong. Are you even listening? Do I need to repeat the whole storytelling here?"
She laughed louder this time.
In the middle of her laugh of tears, she said "No, no. You are the one who got his messages all wrong. You see, he is a man full of surprises. He likes you because he has never encountered someone like you who resists him or cuts him off immediately. Most girls would give up on him and give their virtue out for free to him. While you? You are new to him and I can see why he's into you so much. You are unique, cool, beautiful, and gracious. Look at your curves. Have you been going to the gym?"
"Stop that nonsense. I haven't gone anywhere but our apartment and office. Okay? So shut it! Now, my problem is him. I don't want this to go anywhere. I'm not overreacting. I just don't want this right now and I'm too busy to get distracted by something else like him." I clarified.
"You know that you're lucky here, right?"
I didn't understand. How is that even lucky?
She continues, "For one thing I am certain, every girl would kill to be in your position. You are so lucky he gave you this much time and attention. You should consider yourself fortunate. For the record, I told you earlier that he doesn't date. You might be the first one that could change that. And long conversations? He never does that. Lend him the benefit of the doubt."
She's being ridiculous.
No person like him would change overnight. He is like that and he will never change. The things he does like having one-night stands and flirting with girls and getting what he wants from them after a short period of just talking. Guys like him are the reason I don't want to have a boyfriend anymore.
"Whatever." That is all that came out of my mouth. I wanted to say more but it's useless. She's a little drunk and there's no point in telling her more about my thoughts. Her brain is intoxicated and I guess there is no sense in explaining.
Now, I need to think of a reason for my sister so that I can get out of here.
"Mila, I know you. And I understand you are scared because, hey, you have some trust issues but trust me this time. Don't argue with him and just go with the flow. He will soon realize that you are not that interesting and he will leave you alone." That's her suggestion and I'm not sure if it's going to work.
But there's nothing wrong in trying. This is just for tonight and tomorrow is another day and we won't be able to see each other ever again.
"Thanks, Nat. I don't know what I'll do without you."
I gave her a tight embrace and she did as well.
"Is that a joke? I'm your best friend. I will never leave you hanging. And let us go back inside, yeah? It is cold out here. Wearing these thin fabric out here gives me chills and I might get a cold if we stay out longer." She protested. I agree though, the weather tonight is a bit chilly and I forgot to bring my favorite coat.
I might ambush my sister to her room later and borrow one of her coats.
We started to walk inside the reception and I was looking around for something. I don't even understand why I'm looking around but I was surprised myself that I did. I was searching for something, then I started to feel thirsty.
Nat and I had separated. And I decided to grab a drink and saw a little bar on the left side of the reception. And lucky for me because it was just the bartender, not someone I'm trying to avoid.
Undecided on what to drink, should I have no alcohol or with alcohol. But before I could decide, the bartender gave me a glass of drink with a little cherry inside. I love cherries.
The bartender then said, "The man on the other side of the bar wanted to give this to you." I was in shock. Who is that man he was referring to? And when my eyes land on the person whom I was avoiding the whole time.
It was Matt.
I responded to the bartender, "Return this to him and tell him I'm not thirsty." Well, the truth is I am thirsty, I just don't want to drink whatever he was giving me.
The bartender picked up the drink, then walked in Matt's direction. He said something to Matt and he then chuckled. He is enjoying whatever the bartender told him.
I tried ignoring him. I even planned on leaving the bar. But before I could stand from where I was sitting, a voice that I don't want to ever hear again said, "You know, to refuse an offer is a great insult?"
"I did not ask you to give me that." I was pointing to the drink he is now holding. I sound childish.
"Please, it's just a drink. It has no poison."
"Now that you mentioned it, I doubt you didn't put anything on it."
"Are we arguing for a drink? I'm not going to keep you drunk. Plus, I don't like having sex to a drunk woman. Where's the fun in that?" He looks at me with sincere eyes. But he still looks like a pervert to me.
"What? Who said I will have sex with you?"
"I was. . . That's not what I meant. What I'm trying to say is, I respect you because you are my cousin-in-law's sister." He explains.
I can't help but laugh at him. I know I may have sounded crazy but I find him cute. Why does he have to be so cute?
I can feel him staring at me so I roll my eyes in annoyance, then he asked me, "What?" He started to join me in laughing. "Look, I have no bad intentions. It was a friendly gesture and I find you cute." I can't believe how blunt he is with me. He extended his hand moving the drink close to me, "I hope you take it." He is seriously begging for me to take it and as per him, it is rude to refuse an offer. "And by the way, I'm Matt."
I wanted to tell him that I know.
"Mila"
We shake hands and I internally sighed. This is going to be a long night, I suppose.
