The new school year had begun and Izuku was walking to school in his new uniform excited to see what learning at Ua would be like.
It had been a couple of weeks since his last meal and Izuku was as composed as he mentally could be. The tormenting guilt of devouring another person for his own benefit had slowly died down enough to be able to function normally and the stress of having to find something to eat was still too far into the future to cause him to begin to break down; for now, atleast.
And for that he was thankful. Being in the most emotional stable state he could possibly be, to start a new school, was probably for the best.
Maybe in this school he would actually gain some friends.
Maybe that girl he saved from the entrance exam would be in his class too, a small part of him hoped so..
As he arrived at the school's wide gates, Izuku quickly trotted his way inside and went to the location his classroom was meant to be. Izuku couldn't help the small bubble of excitement form in his chest as after five minutes of searching, he finally found the room labeled 1-A. Taking a deep breath he pushed the oversized door over and walked into the room.
To his dismay, he was greeted at the sight of Bakugou, with his shoes up on the table, and the same guy with robot arms arguing with each other. Oh jeez...
The sound of the door opening made the arguing pair look around towards him, Bakugou being the first to react at the sight of his former classmate with his usual rash behaviour.
"EHh, Deku? what are you doin-" Bakugo was cut off with a confused resentment, causing Izuku to almost sigh at his behaviour before he was cut off.
"Hello my name is Tenya lida, It's a pleasure to meet you." The boy, now named lida called out.
Izuku stood slightly stunned and overwhelmed by the sudden interest the boy had taken to him, slowly beginning to reply quickly to try and reduce the amount of attention and looks the pair were beginning receiving from people all over the classroom.
"Oh hi, my name is Izuku Midor-"
" Oh, it's you! Plain guy!"
Oh no, izuku recognised that voice.
He turned around and rest assured there stood the same girl who had saved him twice and stood right behind him. He stayed silent as the girl greeted him, leaning in close to his face, unsure of what to say to her as a red flush of embarrassment began to.
To her it must have seemed like he had some sort of fever as she began to ask him if he was feeling alright, only to be cut off by Bakugo.
"Just leave him, Deku hasn't spoken much of anything to anyone since his girlfriend died."
The brown haired girl quickly clamped her mouth shut and leaned away from him, looking over to Bakugou in subtle shock and surprise before looking back up and staring at Izuku along with the rest of the class.
Izuku felt his mind slowly drift back to that traumatic, fateful night. The friendly face which he had trusted for only a short time. He felt his face pale slightly as a sickly feeling began to swirl in his stomach, the reminder of the dark twisted memories of the last time he saw her; covered in his blood and blood thirsty for more...
"She wasn't my girlfriend." Izuku said loudly enough for only the small group of people surMounding him to hear, staring straight into Bakugou eyes with irritation. What right did he have to tell everyone about his past?
Asshole...
Bakugou raised an eyebrow at the unexpected response, ready to reply when he was cut off by a noise which came from a strange yellow thing, laying by the door on the floor.
"As interesting as this conversation is, we have work to do"
The man began as he stood up out of his yellow sleeping bag and made his way to the front of the class.
"Hello, my name is Shouta Aizawa and I'm your homeroom sensei." He began dully "It took you far too long to settle down. You're hero students now, it's time to take things seriously. I hope that never happens again."
Izuku watched as his new sensei pulled out a box of gym uniforms from his sleeping bag and began handing them out.
"Put these on and met me outside on the field in ten minutes"
Once Izuku had arrived at the male changing room he quickly dashed for the corner of the room, quickly trying to change before the majority of the class came into the room; trying to hide the long, slowly fading scar across his stomach from the people around him.
Izuku tried to sneakily slip his top off while covering his stomach with the Ua gym uniform before trying to switch them.
Unfortunately it seemed his shirt didn't seem to cover everything.
"Woah! Where did you get that scar?" a loud voice rang out over the locker room, causing Izuku to quickly tense up at the words; eyes widening slightly with fear.
Everyone else in the room turned to look at the voice over a yellow haired boy with a lightning bolt through his hair, who was pointed directly at him, before turning to look in Izuku's direction.
A boy with perfect half white half red hair and a red burn scar over his left eye spoke up before anyone else could ask any questions.
"His scar is none of your business, you shouldn't ask people questions about such things.
The boy with yellow hair quickly backtracked and began apologising profusely. It was clear he didn't mean to cause any harm or upset so lzuku waved him off.
"It's ok, don't worry about it. I got it in a villain accident about 10 months ago and had to have my stomach replaced. I just don't like looking at it since it brings up bad memories." He said quietly as he tugged on the bottom of his clothes awkwardly, carefully eyeing the red and white haired boy, who had gone back to changing.
At this point, another boy with red hair spoke up.
"Ahh you're so manly" he said clenching his fists before he looked up towards him. "My name is Kirashima, your Midoriya right? It's nice to meet you." Kirashima said with a bright sunny smile which lit up the room, easing the awkward atmosphere.
"It's nice to meet you too," Izuku replied quietly, with a small heart warmed smile.
The class just managed to make it outside in time before Aizawa sensei started talking.
"Today we're going to see what the best of your abilities are using your quirk. The government makes everyone take these tests in middle school without allowing you to use your quirk. The government isn't thinking rationally so we are going to do it today."
He turned to Bakugou.
"Bakugou, you scored the highest in the entrance exam, come here and throw this ball while standing in that circle.
Bakugo took the ball and went into the circle. After swinging his arms in a circular motion He shot his arm up and caused a massive explosion in the palms of his hand as the ball shot into the sky. His class watched in awe as the ball disappeared from sight, flying high into the sky. They all turned to Aizawa sensei as he showed a screen of his result.
703.2m!
Some of the classes jaws dropped at the number, before bubbling around excitedly for their turn.
Izuku could only stare in awe, as much as he didnt like Bakugou most of the time, he couldn't deny how powerful he really was.
They all snapped to attention when a sharp voice raised about them.
"Since you're all so excited, why don't we change the rules.." their sensei said with a manic grin.
"Whoever comes last will be expelled."
The class all stared wide eyed at their teacher when Izuku realised how serious he was.
' He gonna expel one of us on our first day? That's insane...' he thought to himself.
The test proceeded on with everyone in their class showing off their wonderful quirks. Izuku mentally took notes of all the ones he found interesting.
A girl with a quirk who seemed like she could do anything. Before she explained her quirk and told them all that she needed to know the chemical elements and physical components to make things correctly.
And there was a boy who seemed to be able to talk to animals by screaming at them?
He would figure that one out later.
The tests continued on in such a style where he would watch and take notes of other people's quirks.
Using one for all was impossibly difficult with these fast paced tests, constantly breaking and real healing bones was a painful process. At least his other quirk somewhat boosted his strength, even without summoning his Kagune.
Suddenly they were back to the ball throw and Aizawa was calling up his name.
He took the ball and thought about what tactics he would use during this test. As much as he wanted to refrain from using one for all and breaking his bones, this was the final test of the day, now was the time to use it. Izuku looked over to where Aizawa-Sensei was standing, glaring at him with annoyance. Izuku swallowed the uncomfortable feeling he was getting down, wondering what he had done to annoy their sensei off already.
He knew he was at the back of the class, even the short guy with sticky balls on his head was fairing better than him. Izuku took a deep breath and sighed as he reached the circle. Maybe it was because he hadn't used one for all? Aizawa had said they needed to use their quirks to their maximum potential.
Ahh that was probably why then, he had probably watched the entrance exam.
Izuku just hoped this was enough to pull him through at least above one other person.
He reached the circle and pulled his arm back, channeling one for all into his full arm. With a sudden burst, one for all exploded out though his arm, smashing the bones inside. His new classmates watched in awe as his ball flew at lightning speeds through the air, some of whom watched gobsmacked with disbelief. Izuku barely looked up at his peers or at the power that one for all wielded at 100%, as he gripped onto his forearm which stung and throbbed with pain like crazy; his healing quickly beginning to set in.
"Midoriya." His name called out over to him, causing him to look over to his sensei who had flipped the phone around for him to see.
736.2 meters.!
Izuku felt his mouth open slightly in shock at the number, as gasps of awe and excitement made their way around the class.
33 meters more than Kacchan...
Izuku looked up from the screen towards their sensei, only Aizawa didn't seem so pleased; a look of disappointment filtering across his face.
Izuku almost felt like grimacing when their teacher just continued on without saying anything before beginning to call on the next person for the ball throw, however before there teacher could call up the next person Bakugou exploded towards Izuku; still stood near the edge of the circle, raging loudly causing Izuku to flint back a bit.
"Shitty Deku! What the hell was that..!" Bakugou yelled angrily as he flew across the field.
Izuku quickly redirected his eyes towards where he was charging towards him, surprised at the sudden hostility. He wasn't scared though, nothing like this would even be able to scare him again...
What did shock him however was the sudden light gray material wrapping around his old childhood friend, his explosions promptly being shut off as the boy fell out the air with a small thump on his face. Confused, Izuku looked up toward the source of the capture weapon only to see their sensei's hair and cloth ends hovering over his head.
Bakugou began to struggle around, "What the hell-is this..!"
"This cloth is made from carbon fibre held together with a special alloy. We haven't got time for this and I don't tolerate students attacking one another. If you've got a problem and think you can just go around wasting my time you can leave...
Aizawa stated sternly, before releasing his scarf and reeling it back in; giving Izuku a split second to notice the yellow goggles hidden beneath it.
"ErasureHead..!" Izuku said stunned as he looked over towards the hero, mouth slightly ajar from shock. The hero paused for a moment, seemingly surprised that someone had recognised him before looking back down at his note board.
"Kirishima, you're up next."
When the rest of the class had finished up their tests, Aizawa had called them all around in a group to discuss the results.
"Remember whoever is last, is going home..." Aizawa trailed on, holding up a small machine which activated with a click, causing a large holographic screen to pop up. "Now here are your results...
Izuku's eyes trailed down the short list of names and faces, each of which were not his own, only causing more stress and anxiety. Eventually though, he finally found his name.
18# Izuku Midoriya.
Two spaces off from the bottom, he let out a deep sigh or relief as he heard the faint cries of someone who had seemingly come last.
Unfortunately his relief was only short lived...
"Midoriya..." their sense's voice called out over the top of the class, catching everyone's attention.
luku looked over to their sensei with a confused look, only to be greeted with a stern frown.
"Grab your things and go to Nezus office, your expelled."
Just like that, Izuku felt his dream slipping through his fingers. He stayed silent, too stunned to form the words to respond.
The brown haired girl from the entrance exam quickly began to speak up in protest. "Hu? Why is he getting expelled, he came 18th! That's not fair!"
Aizawa quickly redirected his glare off of Izuku towards the girl besides him,
"Not fair? Explain to me why I should let someone who didn't put his all into each test, when I specifically told all of you to try your hardest. Do you think it's fair that he thinks he can just breeze through this course without trying?"
The brown haired girl began trying to back track what she had said, "No, that's not what i meant-"
Unfortunately Aizawa was having none of it. "Then what did you mean? Mhm?" Aizawa looked up and around to the rest of the class who were standing around in shock, furrowing his brows seriously.
"Being a hero isn't child's play. Not giving it your all out on the field will get you killed, not trying your best in my class and waste my time, and I'll expel you. It doesn't matter how much potential you think you have, mess around in the heat of the moment in battle and you will find it to be your last.
At the heroes stern glare, Izuku managed to build upwe courage to finally reply.
"B-but Sir, my quirk breaks my bones when i use it..!" Izuku's voice wobbled, tears beginning to well up in his eyes.
Their sensei looked him up again down with disappointment, not impressed with his attempt to try and bargen his way back into the hero course.
"And from the looks of it, your quirk can heal your bones too." He started dully, beginning to turn and walk away.
"I-its does! B-but only to a certain extent! It hurts to move afterwards, it doesn't heal them fully!"
Izuku continues desperately.
Aiawa paused with a sigh and turned towards him, not displaying any emotion on his face other than subtle annoyance.
"I only wanted to make sure I could get through the rest of the exams using the best of my ability!
If i had used my quirk near the beginning of the tests i wouldn't have been able to complete the final ones...!"
Not only that, but Izuku knew he couldn't afford to over use his healing ability. He couldn't afford to get hungry, not here...
Aizawa narrowed his eyes slightly before sighing again, "Fine. Go back to class with the others. But if i think you're wasting my time and have no potential, i won't hesitate to expel you; that goes for all of you." With that the hero continued on with his trek back into the building, slowly followed with the rest of the class towards the changing rooms just as Izuku felt a large sigh of relief fly over him once again. As his legs began to feel weak from the shock of it, he bent forward and lent on his knees, trying to calm his nerves.
The brown haired girl came over and gently placed a hand on his back, causing him to tense up momentarily before relaxing; still not used to human contact after avoiding it for so long.
He quickly stood up and moved out of the way of her hand as he spoke. "A-ah yea.. I'm fine" He started with a deep breath, "Thanks for trying to stick up for me."
The girl looked up at him with a small jump of surprise. "Oh, It's ok! Im Uraraka Ochako, by the way! Your name is Deku Midoriya, right?"
Izuku flinched slightly, grimacing while sending her a small awkward smile, trying to hide his own growing embarrassment, "Oh, no that's just what Kacchan- uhh Bakugou calls me. I'm Midoriya Izuky!"
The next day they were greeted by their first Hero training lesson. All Might had come through the door like a normal person in his silver age costume while Aizawa sensei was still explaining what they would be doing.
When Izuku saw his favourite hero walk through the door, he shot up in his chair in excitement.
"Its All Might!" He exclaimed, with a now rare true smile plastered on his face, along with the rest of his class. He might have known the hero now for almost a whole year, and they had both had gotten to know each other very well (on Midoriya half anyway, he hadn't one let slip anything about his less legal activities.),he was very excited to meet his hero who had given him a chance to become the hero he always dreamed of.
"Haha! Hello today we will be doing hero training" All Mights voice boomed with his symbolic smile on his face. He pulled out a remote from god knows where and pressed a button. Suddenly the panels in their classroom moved to reveal their hero costumes. "Please gather your hero costumes and meet me at field beta!"
Izuku and his excited classmate gathered their hero costumes and went to the changing rooms.
He felt nervous about getting changed again.
Worried someone else would point out his scar but thankfully everyone brought no attention to it, making Izuku sigh with relief and smile slightly at how thoughtful his classmates were towards him.
When they finished putting their costumes on they went outside and met up with the girls who had already arrived. Once he got there he was surprised when Ochako came running up to him with a blinding happy smile on his face.
"Wow Deku! Your hero costume looks great! I Love it!" She said bubbly with her fists clenched excitedly in front of her.
Izuku gave her a small smile, thinking back to the small conversation he had with her the day before.
After he had explained to her the meaning behind the nickname she had almost immediately started profusely apologising, before stating that it sounded a bit like the phrase 'dekiru' which gave her a "you can do it!" vibe.
Not knowing how to react to the girl's positive twist on his once dreaded nickname he immediately agreed.
Izuku turned slightly, looking at Ochakos' costume up and down at, before quickly turning away with a giwing fluster.
"I guess i should have been more specific. This is really tight!" she said with a nervous laugh as she pulled slightly on the side of her costume.
"I-i think it looks great Uraraka, very space themed" he managed to stutter out flushing bright red with embarrassment.
"Really! Thanks Deku!" She said with a beautiful smile.
luku blushed harder as he realised what he had thought.
Thankfully they were cut off from their conversation as All Might began their class.
"Hello you bunch of newbies! Welcome to battle training. Today I'm going to be splitting you up into teams of two!"
As their lesson continued on, they were quickly paired into groups of two though random lot pickings. Luckily, both Ochako and Izuku had been put together as a hero team.
"Isn't this great Deku! We'll get that nuke in no time!" she stated determinedly with pointing her thumb up dramatically to him, causing him to nod back slightly in weary excitement.
Unfortunately however, their team had been pegged against Bakugou's villain team; making Izuku wince on instinct at the thought of the up and coming battle.
As each team got prepared Izuku and ochako started planning out their attack; but all too soon the alarm rang, announcing the start of their match.
The pair quickly ran in, with Izuku in the lead, not having to check around corners for their opponents with Izuku's strong yet secret sense of smell for humans, the ability still unnerving him when he thought too deeply about it. After a minute of twists and turns they ran into Bakugou and soon things escalated quickly.
As Bakugou went to pull out the pin attached to the gauntlets on his forearms, Izuku felt a sudden flash of fear as an explosion filled the corridor around them, Uraraka standing obviously around the corner, not far behind him.
Would she even be able to protect herself from this on her own...
Time felt as if it slowed down as the cloud of shrapnel and heat came barreling towards them, quickly realising how seriously hurt Uraraka was about to get hurt without being able to heal herself like he could, as he turned around to push her down to the ground; protecting her from the oncoming explosion.
As it rapidly neared his body, covering his classmates' more fragile body below with his own, his back was soon overcome with a searing burn through the material of his hero costume. Izuku heaved loudly as his breath was suddenly knocked out of him in pain, as the pieces of concrete tried to bury themselves into his back as his skin quickly began flaking off and rehealing; creating a repetitive loop of raging agony on his back.
Izuku grunted loudly as he bit down heavily onto his tongue, trying desperately to hold in the agonizing scream he felt growing in the back of his throat. His own warm tasty blood pooling in his mouth as he began to break through the skin in his mouth; causing him to snap his eyes shut, tears beginning to form, as the overwhelming and pulsating feeling his eye once again began to form at the back of his eye socket.
As fast as the pain had come barreling in, Izuku could only hope the pain and taste of blood would go away just as fast…
To ochako, everything happened too quickly. She and Deku had been running down corridor after corridor when suddenly all the air in front of her was filled with a heated shrapnel filled explosion heading straight towards her.
The next thing she knew, Deku had shoved her down hard onto the ground as he sacrificed his own body to shield her from the explosion's rampage. She looked up in terrified awe as he took the brunt of the explosion to save her.
She watched his face contorted with pain as he brought his arms to her sides to protect her as the heat blasted around them, causing her to suddenly to clamp her eyes closed, tucking her arm around her.
Admiration set itself in stone as the boy above her continued to shield her from the dangerous wave above them.
She knew for certain Deku was the most heroic and brave person she had ever ment in her life, and his ethics and morals made her want to become more than what she had set out for.
She wanted to become a hero not put off by fear but a hero like him. A hero who didn't look back when trying to save someone. A hero who jumped in saved people without thinking...
As fast as it came, the explosion passed; quickly sitting up and going to Dekus aid as he pulled up and away from her. She watched in shock as he turned his back towards her, looking into the dust cloud which hid them from Bakugou's sight, watching the burns on his back quickly heal up.
As Midoriya sucked in a shallow, shaky breath, he looked over his shoulder towards her.
"Uraraka i need you to run ahead and get the bomb, Kacchan, uh- Bakugou is gonna come after me, this is the only chance you're gonna get to get past the bomb. lida is probably watching it on one of the upper floors..!"
Uraraka stuttered slightly at the thought of continuing on with the match after the amount of damage that had already been caused. "B-but Deku..! Your back..! How are you gonna- Are you alright-" She paused as she directed her eyesight back onto his back, noticing the red skin slowly beginning to fade away.
Midoriya turned further back around towards her, pulling her eyesight away and up towards his face.
"I'm fine. Don't worry about me..! I'll take care of Bakugou, you've gotta go before he comes back.
Do it so we can win..!" He whispered confidently, if not a bit shakily, towards her; keeping his voice low to aVoid catching onto their enemies' attention.
Nodding without hesitation at his determination reflecting onto herself, she moved away and ran in the bomb's direction with a new drive and determination. Nothing could stop her now.
It was long after that All Mights voice rang out through the speakers, they had won..
'The Hero team wins!'
In the observation room class 1-a watched in awe and shock of Izuku protecting his teammate and bakugous reckless attack.
But as their class watched In awe, All Might stood watching in confusion as he watched his successor's back begin to rapidly heal through the surveillance cameras; his confusions cutting off his reprimand to Young Bakugou's reckless attack.
That wasn't One for All at work...
He would have to question him about it later.
As class finished they went back to their homeroom to discuss the lesson.
"I looked over your lesson you had with All Might and most of you did as expected." Aizawa turned to Bakugo.
"Bakugo if you want to be a hero, grow up. Hero's can't afford to use reckless attack's such as that.
Childish behaviour will only be your downfall." He stated boredly before turning to face Izuku.
"Midoriya, while risking yourself for someone, is seen as admirable to some. I don't want to see you doing that again, whether you can heal yourself or not... Think of ways to avoid such situations happening in the future, you're no use to anyone if you're out of commission healing yourself..
"Yes sensei." He said quietly.
"With that being said we have something else for you all to tackle. Who's gonna be your class rep?"
'So normal!'
Izuku sat quietly as the rest of his class started discussing who would become class rep. Not wanting to take the role or have added responsibility Izuku pulled out his hero book which inssead of being a hobby was now more of something to keep his brain wandering to bad thoughts.
After half an hour, the results of the vote were in and Izuku looked up from his book and almost dropped his pen on the floor as he saw 5 votes next to his name.
Still gobsmacked Izuku turned to look at his classmates who were cheering him on.
"You might be shy and not talk very much Midoriya but you were so manly during training. You got my vote." A boy, Kirishima, he remembered, spoke up.
Oh god, maybe he shouldn't have protected Uraraka.
Oh who was he kidding, he would have saved her anyway..
