Kinji is a tall young man with tan skin and a muscular build. He has small magenta-colored eyes with thin slitted eyebrows and a thin mustache made of stubble. While at Jujutsu High, Hakari had black hair styled into short twisted locks with a fade below his brow line. His hair is currently dyed blonde and in the shape of a puffy, tapered afro that slicks back toward the rear of his head.

As the boss of Gachinko Fight Club, Kinji dressed the part of a bookie. He sported a white tank-top beneath his dark fur coat along with gray pants and light-colored boots. After agreeing to combat the Culling Game, Hakari sports a Jujutsu High uniform jacket with the same jeans and boots. Unlike Yuji Itadori's hooded jacket, Kinji's uniform's hood is entirely connected and the same color as the rest of his jacket.

Hakari "running cold".

Kinji is a very self-absorbed type of person who cares little for the rules and regulations of Jujutsu High. Yuta Okkotsu describes him as moody[1] and apparently, all the other students that are around Kinji's age think of him as a good-for-nothing.[2]

Kinji is an individual who enjoys watching people get lost in their passions. He describes this as people's "fever" burning hot. Kinji is clever and pours his own fever into manipulating others. He believes people are desperate to change their lives and an easy way of directing their fever is through gambling. He doesn't believe there is a single person that exists without the fever and his goal is to manipulate all of Japan's fever with his fight club.

"Wanna get high on my fever?"

According to Kirara Hoshi, Kinji's fever burns hottest when he's working as a sorcerer for jujutsu high. However, Kinji's attitude and modern cursed technique don't mesh well with the higher-ups. He was suspended for assaulting a conservative member and decided to act outside their regulations. Kinji is willing to take advantage of the chaos caused by the public reveal of curses to advance his fight club. Eventually, his goal is to get his club recognized by jujutsu officials for the coming changes in their regulations. [3]

Hakari changing his attitude toward Megumi after learning he's head of the Zenin clan.

Kinji is only willing to put his life on the line with another sorcerer if they show him a proper fever. Initially, upon encountering Yuji, Kinji felt that the first-year's fever was weak because Yuji was sent to him on the recommendation of others. Yuji explained that he's just a cog in the system of jujutsu sorcerers, which Kinji thought was boring. However, Yuji proved he's a cog in fever, burning hot enough to gain Kinji's attention. Kinji agreed to cut a deal with Yuji and his allies simply because he believes the fever never lies.[4]

Despite his brash disposition, Kinji is very grateful for those who took care of him. He was fairly distraught learning that Masamichi Yaga died and Satoru Gojo was sealed, claiming he hadn't been so bummed since Yakul got shot in the butt with an arrow. Yuji, Megumi, and Panda found this comment strange and they assumed Kinji must live a relatively calm life.

Kinji's way of encouraging Charles to pursue his dreams.

Kinji agreed to help Megumi and his allies but clarified that this isn't a personal favor, but a deal between both parties. Panda asked what exactly Kinji wanted and "sea-urchin head" (Megumi) somewhat answered for him, annoying Hakari. He felt bad for Yaga and Gojo, but Hakari was even more surprised to learn Megumi was head of the Zenin clan. Almost instantly, Hakari was nicer to Megumi and asked him to be best buds in order to gain a close ally within the Big Three Families.[5]

Kinji comes off as very selfish and rude, but he has a kind heart who respects other people's passions. Upon meeting Charles Bernard, a potential enemy, Hakari was willing to hear him out over the stress caused by the Culling Game. He put on a tough act and claimed to have felt weird about joining another guy on a ferris wheel and only did so to scout out the amusement park for a potential place to take a girl. Hakari was confident that Japan will return to normal while Charles believed his dreams could never be achieved under the circumstances. Charles needed to take out his rage and Hakari recognized that, so he provoked Charles by insulting his passion.[6] After their fight, Hakari made sure to check up on Charles and even asked to read his manga. Hakari asked if Charles felt better after finding an avenue for his stress through fighting and encouraged him to keep pursuing his dreams once the Culling Game ended.[7]

While Kinji doesn't necessarily seek out conflict, he thrives in threatening situations and enjoys gambling on himself in a fight. This includes his life-or-death bout with Hajime Kashimo where they talked and taunted one another in a competitive fashion throughout. Kinji was regularly smiling and even commended his opponent for nearly killing him several times.[8] Kinji was victorious but highly impressed with Kashimo's strength, earning his respect. He admitted he didn't feel like the winner and decided to cut a deal with Kashimo to create an alliance in exchange for what he knew Kashimo wanted most.[9]

"I use skill to grab ahold of luck!"

Overall Skill Level: Hakari is widely recognized as one of the most powerful students at Tokyo Jujutsu High. Satoru Gojo, the undisputed strongest sorcerer in the world, believes that Hakari and Yuta Okkotsu will have the potential to rival his power one day.[10] As Yuji stated, all of his senpai have stated that Hakari is exceptionally strong. Yuta even believes Hakari is the stronger of the two of them when he's worked up.[11]

Kinji fighting on par with Kashimo, one of the Culling Game's most elite players.

Kinji is not only an elite close-quarters combatant who possesses serrated cursed energy but an extraordinary jujutsu specialist armed with a dynamic domain. He distinguished himself in the Culling Game by defeating Hajime Kashimo, not only one of the strongest players in the death game, but one of the most powerful sorcerers Kenjaku ever encountered in one thousand years.[12]

Kinji's domain is unique and his luck is reliable, making for a combination capable of opposing any threat. Charles Bernard could see briefly into Kinji's future but he was instantly bested as soon as Kinji hit the jackpot of his domain. Kashimo nearly killed Kinji on several exchanges but he was able to repeatedly open his domain and successfully hit the jackpot to enter his unkillable mode. Kinji's strategic thinking and expert battle sense are ultimately what complemented his techniques best and allowed him to achieve victory against Kashimo.[13]

Kinji's brutally direct fighting style.

Master Hand-to-Hand-Combatant: Kinji is an exceptionally capable hand-to-hand combatant, able to apply life-threatening pressure to Yuji, a very proficient taijutsu specialist. Yuji stopped resisting in order to win Kinji's approval and ended up suffering several blows that dealt serious damage to the first year.[14]

Kinji's full combat prowess on display while in his unkillable mode.

While his fighting style is very direct, Kinji isn't just a brawler. He's a skillful martial artist with a wide range of physical attacks in his arsenal. He uses combinations of punches, kicks, knees, and elbows among other grappling moves and strikes to take out his opponent with maximum force.

Kinji's pure hand-to-hand combat skills were enough to put pressure on Charles even while the latter could see into his future. He was so confident in his abilities that Kinji began their fight with his hands in his pockets while only defending himself with kicks. Charles acknowledged that not for his cursed technique, Kinji would've defeated him right away with physical prowess alone.[15]

The full extent of Kinji's close combat prowess was on display against Hajime Kashimo, an incarnated sorcerer who slayed forty Culling Game players. While Kinji's base state can't challenge Kashimo's mastery of martial arts[16], his close combat abilities shine the most when he's amped up by his domain's jackpot. Fueled with limitless cursed energy, Kinji's supercharged his physical attacks and overpowered Kashimo in several exchanges.[17][18] Up against cursed spirits, Kinji effortlessly tore a swarm of them apart with his bare hands.[19]

Kinji attacking Charles' blindspots to counter his ability to see the future.

High Tactical Intellect: Kinji doesn't present himself as a fighter with a plan because he's fearless and straightforward. That being said, Kinji is an experienced sorcerer with a high strategic battle sense and a knack for reading his opponents. Upon learning about Charles' ability to see the future, Kinji immediately attacked to confirm how it works and then quickly came up with the countermeasure. He knew Charles needed to see his target to use this ability and decided to attack Charles's blindspots with relentless pressure. Kinji also predicted that Charles would counter by attacking his own blindspots and acted accordingly by parrying his attempts.[20] Even inside his domain, Kinji knew Charles still had a slight advantage and kept the pressure on to prevent him from focusing on the future.[21]

Kinji proactively using his auto-healing to avoid death.

While he is a relatively cerebral fighter, Kinji tends to recklessly abandon tactics when he's in his unkillable mode. He allowed himself to be hit by Kashimo during a surge of cursed energy because the assault barely hurt his reinforced body.[22] Despite the lack of caution, Kinji's recklessness does often work in his favor. Immediately after his arm was dismembered by Kashimo's lightning, Kinji continued his own offense because he knew the unkillable mode would regenerate his arm. This took Kashimo off guard and allowed Kinji to retake the momentum of their duel.[23] Kinji's unkillable mode comes is rooted in a fully automatic reverse cursed technique but he doesn't overly rely on the involuntary healing factor and knows how to best make use of it. When Kashimo attempted to destroy his head in one shot, Kinji voluntarily ejected his opponent's cursed energy while allowing his reverse cursed technique to heal him while he breaks.[24]

Kinji dropping Kashimo into the sea to forcibly discharge his electrified cursed energy.

After being hit by Kashimo's electric discharge twice, Kinji figured out there must be a trick to the attack and assumed his opponent couldn't launch it again. Acting on this assumption, Kinji decided to recklessly go full force on his offense and attempted to defeat Kashimo within the eight seconds before his unkillable state ceased. This backfired because Kashimo developed a loophole for his attack that Kinji was unaware of, nearly costing the latter his life.[25] However, on the verge of death, Kinji was able to remain focused and did the only thing he could in order to survive, using all of his strength to bank on expanding his domain, a gamble that ultimately paid off.[26][27]

As Kinji's fight with Kashimo began to draw out, he switched his approach from a straight-on brawl to a more tactical one. He shifted his domain over the ocean before the barrier dispelled and dropped Kashimo into it, correctly assuming that the water would forcibly draw out his electrified cursed energy.[28] While fighting in the ocean, Kinji carefully considered his options of either returning to the surface or using his last five seconds of immortality to finish the fight. Kinji's recklessly decided to try to finish Kashimo off, only to end up on the receiving end of a steam explosion.[29] He survived thanks to quick and clever thinking, using a last-second binding vow to sacrifice his left arm so the rest of him would be unharmed. Kinji knew Kashimo grabbed onto his arm before initiating the explosion in case he survived, which would've made Kinji unable to make the hand signs to cast his domain again. With this information, Kinji wisely decided to sacrifice his arm entirely and used the cursed energy reinforcing it to protect the rest of his body. As displayed at the end of their battle, Kinji's cleverness and forward thinking are what allowed him to best Kashimo in the end.[30]

"Kinji Hakari truly has incredible luck!!!"

Immense Luck: While Kinji is an extremely gifted sorcerer, more so than any of his skills, he's extraordinarily lucky. He's as fortunate as he is talented and can comfortably rely on this to win fights. Kinji's domain is based on drawing a jackpot with only a 1/239 chance of doing so, yet he claims to have never needed to spin more than thirty times.[31] It only took him two spins to hit the jackpot against Charles[32] and he hit it twice in a row on the first try against Kashimo.[33] The second time, Kinji was mere moments from death and needed an immediate jackpot in order to heal himself. His good fortune pulled through and even Kashimo was forced to admit that Kinji truly has incredible luck.[34]

AdvertisementJujutsuCursed Energy ManipulationRough Cursed Energy: As one of the Jujutsu High students with the most potential, it is likely that Hakari possesses extraordinary levels of cursed energy. He is very adept at reinforcing his physical attacks with cursed energy, allowing him to deliver devastating blows. Hakari's cursed energy apparently has a much rougher texture to it than others. He was told by Satoru Gojo that his cursed energy has an "edge", giving giving his blunt attacks a sharp cutting effect. Regardless of how much or how little force Hakari puts behind a blow, his opponent will be struck with a sharp pain regardless. Yuji compares it to being hit with a serrated bat[35] and Charles likened it to sandpaper.[36]Innate TechniquePrivate Pure Love Train: A pachinko-themed technique that is primarily applied through domain expansion. The cursed technique imbued into the domain manifests Private Pure Love Train, a pachinko game inspired by the eponymously named romance manga series. However, Kinji can summon the visual effect indicators of the game such as the shutter doors outside of his domain.[37] (Unnamed)Domain ExpansionIdle Death Gamble (坐ざ殺博さつばく徒と Zasatsu Bakuto?)[38]: A pachinko-themed domain expansion[39] that creates an environment resembling a train station that hosts a game of chance. Kinji's primary goal is to line up three of the same numbers to hit a jackpot with only a 1/239 chance of doing so.[40]Unkillable Mode: Hitting the jackpot of Idle Death Gamble grants Kinji a bonus of unlimited cursed energy for four minutes and eleven seconds, the exact duration of the Private Pure Love Train theme song "Admiring You", which plays throughout the round. The limitless cursed energy causes Kinji's body to reflexively use reverse cursed technique to automatically heal any injury, making him temporarily unkillable after hitting a jackpot.[41]AdvertisementBattles & Events

Hakari arrives to rescue Panda.

Panda is defeated and dismembered by Kashimo but still refuses to say anything to him about Sukuna. Just before Kashimo finishes Panda off, Hakari drops down behind him, surging with cursed energy. Hakari's entrance gets Kashimo's attention away from Panda, who's excited to see his ally. Intrigued by the prospect of a challenging opponent, Kashimo tells the newcomer not to get him excited and the two of them immediately clash.[1]

Battle

Hakari sends Kashimo flying with his first attack.

Hakari throws a supercharged right hook that gets through Kashimo's guard as he tries to block it with his staff. Hakari punches Kashimo with enough force to send him crashing across the shipping yard through several freight containers. Just as Kashimo regains his balance, Hakari closes the distance and jumps backward toward his opponent. Then he swings his legs backward in an unconventional attempt to dropkick Kashimo's head. Kashimo bends backward to avoid the kick, which hits the shipping crate next to them and knocks it off balance. Not only is the crate indented, but Kashimo's nose was grazed and made to bleed slightly as well.

Hakari and Kashimo trade blows early.

Hakari can ignore Kashimo's electricity-based cursed energy trait due to his own overwhelming cursed energy output. Kashimo is fascinated by Hakari's supercharged strength and the music playing around him. The two of them agree that if Hakari wins, Kashimo will hand over his points and if Kashimo wins, Hakari will tell him about Sukuna. Hakari suddenly receives a bonus of extra cursed energy and reaches a euphoric-like state. This leaves him open to attack and Kashimo takes advantage with a left head kick, right punch, and clinch knee combo. Kashimo notices that Hakari isn't resisting and expresses his displeasure. Kashimo begins to tell him not to disappoint, but Hakari interrupts with a hard right straight to Kashimo's jaw, sending him flying. After posing, Hakari follows up with a flying knee while his opponent is still reeling.

Hakari opens his domain as soon as the round ends.

Kashimo commends Hakari's moves and uses the contact from the flying knee to grab Hakari's leg. As Kashimo turns, he delivers a spinning elbow to Hakari's jaw while lifting his leg to keep him off balance. However, Hakari withstands the attack and slams his leg back down, forcing Kashimo backward and creating a large crater in the ground. Kashimo backs away and discharges his lightning attack at Hakari, blasting his left arm off. Kashimo plans to take advantage and dashes back in to pile on damage but Hakari attacks first, kicking Kashimo in the face. Kashimo is sent back, surprised his opponent would counterattack in such a situation. He believes it's too late for resistance regardless but then looks up to see Hakari throwing a left hook with a rejuvenated arm. Kashimo is surprised by his opponent again and blocks the attack, assuming that Hakari can use reverse cursed technique.

The time on Hakari's bonus round ends, making the music end, and his cursed energy recede back to normal levels. Having replenished his cursed technique during the round, Hakari expands Idle Death Gamble, something he can do repeatedly as long as he continues to hit the jackpot.[2] The domain instantly informs Kashimo of all its rules with its sure-hit effect. The transfer of information is harmless, and as a trade-off the domain is expanded extraordinarily fast and the cursed technique activated faster than Kashimo could give up on activating Hollow Wicker Basket. Now informed of Hakari's abilities, Kashimo realizes his limitless cursed energy output and reverse cursed technique came from hitting a jackpot from a previous domain expansion.

Kashimo easily overpowering Hakari in his base state.

Hakari's domain moves into probability mode, making it likely that he hits the jackpot again. Kashimo commends Hakari for doing well and Hakari states a life of gambling always comes with risk before the two of them re-engage in hand-to-hand combat. Kashimo is faster and stronger than Hakari's base state, making it simple for him to outmaneuver and overpower him. He opens with several rapid-fire punches and palm strikes that go undefended and land direct hits to Hakari's head and body. Hakari tries to counter with a punch but Kashimo parries his arm away, only suffering a small scuff to his cheek. While holding Hakari's arm with his left hand, Kashimo also chops his opponent in the forehand. Then Kashimo spins around Hakari's back and delivers a spinning elbow to his neck, knocking Hakari unconscious.

Hakari hits the jackpot and enters his unkillable mode again.

Hakari uses one of his domain indicators to replay the sequence and undo the damage he suffered, returning to a state where Kashimo never hit him. They clash again and Hakari leads with a left straight punch that Kashimo parries upward. Then Kashimo keeps his hands on the inside of Hakari's guard and directs Hakari's right arm away from his body. While pushing Hakari's arm down to leave his body exposed, Kashimo chops Hakari in the neck with his right arm and then combos that with a clinch knee to the head that knocks Hakari unconscious again. Hakari replays a second consecutive sequence and undoes the damage again, leading them into riichi mode.

Hakari and Kashimo enter the potty emergency scenario and interact with the "press the button" visualizations until it's revealed that the jackpot has been hit. The domain dissipates and Hakari's bonus round begins. Kashimo recognizes that Hakari's unkillable mode includes unlimited cursed energy and a fully automatic reverse cursed technique for the duration of the music. He knows that if he can outlast the round, Kashimo can kill Hakari in his base state. However, Kashimo believes that's how weaklings behave and wants to kill the unkillable, challenging himself to defeat Hakari during the round.[3]

Hakari and Kashimo crush a shipping container with their rapid-fire fists.

The two fighters run at high speed around the shipping yard with Kashimo in the lead and Hakari in pursuit. Hakari punches a shipping crate at Kashimo from behind, forcing him to stop on the other side and punch it back. Hakari returns fire and Kashimo does the same until their flurry of rapid-fire punches completely flatten the shipping crate. Hakari sends the container flying while Kashimo jumps above it and takes off the door. He uses the door to smash Hakari's face in an attempt to destroy the reverse cursed technique user's head in one blow. While Hakari is staggered, Kashimo unleashes a bolt of lightning directly at his head. Hakari can feel death approaching, but he heals his damaged brain faster than it breaks and expels Kashimo's cursed energy through his nose at the same time. Hakari admits he nearly perished and the two of them re-engage with just eight seconds remaining in the round.

Kashimo receives electrical feedback through Hakari as the round ends.

Hakari continues to get faster and his increasingly quick punches land more often. He believes there must be a trick to Kashimo's lightning move and assumes he won't be able to use it again soon. Hakari puts his full effort into overpowering Kashimo, landing a combination of punches to his face. Kashimo attempts to throw a counter right straight but Hakari avoids it and disappears from his opponent's view. Then Hakari traps Kashimo's right arm underneath his armpit before spinning around inside of Kashimo's guard and landing a deep elbow to the body. He's going all-in but Hakari doesn't know that Kashimo also accumulated an electrical charge on his staff. Kashimo receives the charge as electrical feedback through Hakari's lower torso, sending a bolt of lightning through him just as the bonus round ends.

Hakari drops Kashimo into the sea.

Having dealt a fatal blow, Kashimo believes that he's won and declares the fight is over. However, Hakari uses what's left of his strength to cast domain expansion once again, gambling everything on hitting a jackpot fast enough to heal himself before he dies.[4] Kashimo doesn't think a jackpot will come quickly enough with just a 1/239 chance and believes Hakari's last ditch effort is pointless. Hakari's luck proves Kashimo wrong as he immediately hits a jackpot and heals his injuries completely. Surprised once again, Kashimo admits his opponent has truly extraordinary luck.

Kashimo's last-ditch steam explosion!

Hakari moves the barrier of his domain over the ocean next to the shipping yard as it dissipates. This drops Kashimo toward the sea in hopes of sapping him of his electrified cursed energy. Cursed spirits emerge from the sea and serve as footing for Kashimo until Hakari shreds them all apart with a barrage of quick, powerful, consecutive blows. Hakari finishes his barrage by kicking Kashimo directly into the water. Kashimo had no choice but to block with cursed energy and hit the water before he could turn it off. As a result, Kashimo's cursed energy begins to flow out as he desperately tries to suppress it. Hakari watches from above the water by holding on to a flying curse until he begins to feel the effects of chlorine gas poisoning. Kashimo uses electrolysis on the water to create the gas and causes Hakari to fall into the sea as well. Kashimo failed to destroy the reverse curse technique's user in one blow earlier, so he tries to use the other reliable method of killing one, poisoning them.

Hakari survives and lands the final blow.

As Hakari falls deeper into the water and begins to pass Kashimo, the latter believes the round will end with the former being unable to detoxify fast enough. He admits the fight has been fun when suddenly Hakari regains consciousness and punches Kashimo across the face. As he's hit by a hard kick directly after being punched, Kashimo realizes that Hakari's reverse cursed technique targeted the toxin and removed it unconsciously. Hakari notices the water temperature rising and with only five seconds left in the round, decides if he's going up to the surface or not. He recklessly remains underwater and tries to finish off Kashimo. He lands a powerful uppercut but Kashimo grabs onto Hakari's left arm and then discharges his remaining cursed energy to create a large steam explosion.[5]

After the explosion, Kashimo swims up to the surface. He's out of cursed energy but he believes that he's won and Hakari is dead. However, Hakari emerges from the water and lands another right hook across his opponent's face, finally defeating Kashimo. Hakari knew that Kashimo wanted to prevent him from opening his domain by taking out the arm he grabbed onto before the explosion. Hakari decided to sacrifice that arm and use the cursed energy protecting it to save the rest of his body from the explosion.[6]

Kashimo admits he only wants to use his cursed technique on Sukuna and Hakari offers him a deal.

AdvertisementAftermath

Kashimo agrees to join Hakari in exchange for fighting Sukuna.

Kashimo tells Hakari to kill him but he refuses. Not only would Kashimo's points disappear but Hakari also hardly considers this a victory. He figures Kashimo never used his cursed technique and is impressed he was so strong while only manipulating his electrified cursed energy. Kashimo admits he only wants to use his cursed technique on Sukuna and Hakari offers him a deal.

Panda finds the two of them and Hakari reveals that he's brought Kashimo to their side in exchange for fighting Sukuna. Panda objects to the idea of endangering Yuji but Hakari states his kohai has to listen, confusing Kashimo as he listens to their banter.[7]

Kinji Hakari (秤はかり金きん次じ Hakari Kinji?) is a character in the Jujutsu Kaisen series. He is a third-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High who is currently suspended for clashing with authority. While away from the school, Kinji is running the Gachinko Fight Club, a venue for hand-to-hand combat between sorcerers for money.

Kinji's domain is unique and his luck is reliable, maji's strategic thinking and expert battle sense are ultimately what complemented his techniques best and allowed him to achieve victory against Kashimo.[13]

He believe
