Fire

One week after my awakening on the rooftop and repeatedly employing my Quirk, I became more fervent about investigating.

So, once again I found myself engrossed in front of her laptop screen, with a simple notepad open in front of me.

Something simple but at least it was useful for writing.

Because where I came from superpowers were nothing more than mere fantasies, I needed to find things that could help me better understand this new thing.

My mind wandered at first, thinking of a sunflower and then a solar panel; both concepts I jotted down on the pad.

Both the sunflower, a biological element, and the solar panel, a technological creation, followed a similar logic: harnessing solar energy for a specific purpose.

Solar panels used photovoltaic cells to absorb light and convert it into electricity. Sunflowers, on the other hand, used chloroplasts to transform that energy into food.

The glucose or electricity produced by these processes was stored in plants or batteries. In my case, my Quirk opted to store the solar energy directly in my body.

I looked away from the screen and focused on my palm. After closing it into a fist, it lit up.

No action was necessary to turn on the light, it was enough to think about it. However, I often chose to do so to highlight the change even more.

My hand seemed to have been covered by a layer of white light, without any mass, although in reality the muscles, blood and veins were still present.

If someone touched, they would feel my hand normally.

Since it was nighttime, the bedroom was unilaterally lit up with me, sitting in a pink chair and squinting, like the causer.

The intensity of the glow generated in my hand could rival that of an ordinary light bulb, which, while not impressive, was an improvement over the first time I used it.

However, such smallness did not please me.

So, after an exhaustive search for professional heroes with Quirks similar to mine, reviewing the concept of laser beams, and asking my mother for more details about the blast I had generated, I found a way to boost the energy.

The light faded as I raised only my index finger to my eye level.

I commanded that the energy I had accumulated in my body be concentrated solely on the tip of my finger.

I commanded that the energy I had accumulated in my entire being be concentrated exclusively on the tip of my finger.

Although I mentioned "my entire being," this amount was not impressive, especially at night when my energy was rapidly depleting. Nevertheless, it was sufficient for my purpose.

As I gave the command, a heated emotion of anticipation blossomed in my chest, causing me to hold my breath.

"And so the light was made," I uttered as my eyes widened immeasurably.

I could only feel something when I expelled energy, but as the luminous force at the tip of my finger multiplied who knows how many times, a warmth spread across my cheeks.

A wild grin tugged at my lips as I saw the luminescence increase as expected. However, aware that there was still something left to verify, my countenance immediately turned serious.

"I just have to touch it and feel the heat," I murmured as I moved the index finger of my free hand toward the light source.

"Hugh!"

As the two fingers brushed, I felt a heat similar to that of a lighter, causing me to withdraw my finger almost instantly.

"Pa-paper, i need paper right now!"

With determination, I turned off the light of my finger and launched into a frantic search for anything that might burst into flames.

I rummaged through her bedroom, the bedroom of the previous occupant of this body, the living room that also served as the kitchen, and any furniture that could be opened.

Finally, I found myself standing on the top floor of the building where i now resided. On the rooftop again, dressed only in a long-sleeved shirt and pants, I had with me a roll of paper towels, plain paper, a toy and a baby's garment.

The moon dominated the sky, but I didn't look at it for a second. My body seemed to repel that sight, and I knew that allowing that feeling to influence my mind at this moment would not be at all beneficial.

There was no time for hesitation.

So, I rubbed my dry eyes and slapped my face to revive myself, feeling my breathing quicken.

I had piled all the items side by side in front of me, in the following order: first the plain paper, then the kitchen paper, followed by the baby garment, and finally the plastic dinosaur I found in "my" bedroom.

I also made sure to have a jug of water on hand in case of any inconvenience; it was always important to be cautious.

With some difficulty, I turned my finger back on. The noise of the cars around me, the constant wind and the moon in the sky made it difficult to concentrate, so I didn't wait any longer.

Placing my white finger on the papers and using my free hand to cover my nose, they burned quickly when I touched them.

The garment took a little longer, smoked for a few moments and finally burst into flames.

The light from the embers was completely eclipsed by my own, which caused my heart to pound.

Was it excitement I was feeling?

The toy took slightly longer, yet my racing heart did not stop. Then, when the dinosaur tail gave way, it roared even louder.

"And now all that's left to do is shoot!", I exclaimed with my hair sticking to my forehead, the warmth of the fire had restored my confidence.
