It seems like the text has some inconsistencies and unclear parts. Here's a revised version for clarity and coherence:
Carol watched Alex and said firmly, "Stop this now before it's too late!"
"Go back?!" Alex almost laughed angrily. His ties to the world, especially after suffering such personal losses, were tenuous at best.
Why would he turn back now? He preferred keeping a low profile, letting them deal with their own mess—but not this time. But why did they have to bring this fight to him? Now he had it. No more holding back.
Carol, with a dignified stature, rushed swiftly towards Alex, aiming straight for the President of the United States.
"You've got nothing to do with this. Get out of here while you can!" Alex impatiently fired a shot at Carol, slamming her forcefully into the ground.
Carol, undeterred, refused to let go of the issue, standing up stubbornly despite the blood on her mouth.
Alex, unrelenting, didn't let emotions get in the way as he struck again.
"Carol, stop! This isn't our fight!" Abigail rushed to hold Carol back, urging her to reconsider.
Originally, they weren't supposed to intervene, especially without the backing of S.H.I.E.L.D.
"Crack."
After a sudden click and bang, Alex swiftly snapped the president's neck, casually tossing the body aside.
Carol's face drained of color as she confronted Alex, "Now that the president's dead, what next?"
Charles sighed helplessly, "Looks like we have no choice but to continue killing."
The other members of their group paled at Charles's words. "He just killed the president! Are we really going to endorse this?"
Some reluctantly nodded, realizing the grim future that awaited Mutants. Killing the president meant inevitable retribution. Could they afford not to act?
Carol glared at Alex with disdain.
Alex frowned, displeased with Carol's gaze. Suddenly, he recalled an ability he had acquired from Jensen—a power over minds.
With a hint of a sneer, he unleashed a powerful mental force into Carol's mind, delving into her memories. In an instant, he manipulated twenty-five years of Carol's life into a fictional narrative, erasing her real memories effortlessly.
Carol writhed in pain as her memories were forcibly rewritten, her mind subjected to Alex's invasive power.
As Alex's psychic assault ended, Charles shook his head in dismay. He understood Alex's rage but dreaded the consequences. He couldn't afford to provoke Alex further, even if it meant opposing everyone else.
Abigail, witnessing Carol collapse unconscious, demanded sharply, "What did you do to Carol?"
"You dare to challenge me?" Alex glared at Abigail, a mere Mutant with modest abilities. Who gave her the audacity to confront him like this?
Now that he was up against the government, S.H.I.E.L.D., there was no goodwill left...
When he thought of dismantling S.H.I.E.L.D., Alex's mind turned to one man in particular.
Nick Fury, the sinister figure with direct ties to Stryker.
Not only did he resurrect the Sentinel program, but he also delved into events from years past.
Did he really think Alex wouldn't find out?
The scheme had Fury's fingerprints all over it.
With murderous intent burning in his eyes, Alex regarded Abigail angrily, dismissing Carol as no threat.
"Well..." When Abigail remained silent, Alex Smirked coldly and reached out, effortlessly snatching Carol from her grip.
A mere puppet, easily brainwashed. She could be considered on their side from now onwards. With Carol's abilities, it wouldn't be long before she woke up, as expected.
"Let he go!" Abigail shouted immediately.
In a flash, Alex turned his gaze to Abigail, his eyes glowing a fierce red. Before she could react, a beam of intense heat shot from his eyes, striking her directly. Abigail crumpled to the ground, lifeless.
Without a second thought, Alex grabbed Carol and tossed her to Charles, then teleported away in a blur.
Charles looked down at the unconscious Carol in his arms, a forced smile tugging at his lips. This was really... something else.
He took a deep breath, trying to steady his nerves. He needed to prepare to return as soon as possible. Perhaps this could be the catalyst for reconciliation between humans and mutants.
After all, it was humans who had to contend with Alex. When Alex directly killed Stryker and wielded the colossal metal sword from New York to decimate half of Washington, if not for Carol's intervention, Washington might have been completely obliterated by now.
Now, with the U.S. President dead and Alex having teleported away, who knew who else might be next?
