Chapter #18

//AN: Comment on what you think about this chapter. There will be some cringe moments, but, it's not like you all haven't read some good ol' Twilight Fanfic yet, right?//

Lucas Spectre is in dilemma. Should he use his powers to save Pete or not? The obvious answer is yes, but he also wonders... What is stopping him from doing that? Why can't he just do that?

He doesn't have an answer. But deep inside him, there's the root of his answer. The answer is simple. Fear.

Fear of his identity being known by the anonymous players, manipulating in the dark. He was scared. He was scared of being manipulated by them. By being in someone's insidious interest.

Lucas is a manipulator at heart. But the only difference between him and the people that control everything within the dark is that the only thing that he wants to perfectly manipulate was his life. As long as everything he wanted is at it is, then he was fine with that. And being in the equation of some power-hungry lunatic would take him away from that fantasy. Yes, his fantasy.

Lucas looked around the bathroom trying to find something, anything that would help him in his plan to help Pete, and ultimately, cure the mutated Lizard in front of him. And there he found it, Pete's bag.

Running faster towards it, Luke grabbed the bag and tossed it towards the struggling Peter Parker. Moving on to his super-instinct, Peter grabbed the bag and took out something from inside it. Wearing it on his wrist, Pete webbed the Lizard's face, inside his mouth, and eyes to free himself from the clutch of the monstrosity before him. Which he successfully did.

The Lizard staggered back, struggling to breathe. Then with a quick, savaged thinking, he clawed his neck, digging in his claws to take out whatever was blocking his airways.

"GRRKKKSK!" He screeches while madly looking at the two boys whose responsible for his self-mutilation.

"The fuck Pete, are you sure that's the Dr. Connors who gave me a candy?!" Luke exclaimed in shock while looking at the grotesque monster infront of him.

"He gave you candy?!" Pete asked while taking out the suit in his bag.

"When I was elementary, yes!" Luke said in haste as he ran along with Peter.

The two of them ran to the nearest vacant room intending to bait the Lizard away from the public. While out of everyone's eyes. Pete took his suit out of his bag and gave Luke his empty bag.

"Just hide it for a sec!" He said as he ran away from Luke. Even though Luke was incredibly helpful to him this time, Pete's only knowledge was that Luke was just a normal human and that he can't possibly help him more in his fight against the Lizard who possess superhuman strength that could bend a human in half like a piece of cake.

That's why Peter chose to avoid Luke in his fight against the Lizard, so that no unwanted collateral would happen.

Meanwhile, as Luke was running, Gwen suddenly came into his peripheral view, making him stop. Gwen was looking for someone, and he knew that, that someone was him.

Looking back at Peter who's being thrown like a ragdoll by Dr. Connors, Luke bit his lips,

"Just wait for a second, Pete," Luke whispered to himself as he ran full speed to Gwen, the latter saw him immediately,

"Luke! We need to run! Quick!" Gwen yelled as she attempted to drag Luke towards the exit, but Luke was unmoving.

Turning her head towards the unmoving boy, Gwen Stacy was suddenly grabbed from both of her shoulders by the boy in question,

"Gwen, you need to trust me on this, I'll answer all your questions later, so please just run and don't turn around for me!" Luke spoke in haste while repeatedly glancing toward the sound of distractions that were audible to their ears.

"Are you fucking stupid! You almost got killed only within this mont—" Gwen cursed out in her frustration, but she couldn't go on more when Luke suddenly shook her.

"GWEN!" Luke yelled,

The two stared into each other's eyes quietly for a few seconds before Luke continued saying,

"Trust me." He uttered, causing Gwen to flinch, and looked at him with a worried gaze. Gwen looked at Luke's eyes with uncertainty, but in the end, she decided to trust him.

"Come back to me..." Gwen muttered as she let go of Luke's hand inch-by-inch. Luke stared at her with a calming smile as he spoke confidently,

"I will."

....

Different shrieks and yell reverberated along the hallways of Midtown High. As they saw the giant lizard, the only thing that they felt was fear as they ran away toward the exit of the school. Some teachers even saw the mutated Lizard in the flesh, they couldn't believe it, but as a responsible adults, they still decided to help the young kids evacuate faster by guiding them.

Back at Spider-Man and the Lizard fight. As the people inside the school ran around creating chaos, the two superbeings fought without restraints.

"Why can't you understand, Peter? All those souls, lost and alone! I can save them, I can cure them!" The Lizard gnarly spoke while swinging his claw at Peter, who dodges it with great flexibility.

"You're not thinking straight, Doc." Pete responded while using his webs to get away from the Lizard's sharp claws.

"I'm thinking clearer than I've ever been, Peter!" The Lizard shouted in anger as he leap towards Peter who was currently dangling on the ceiling.

With a hard grip on Peter's upper body, the Lizard smacks Pete down on the hard ground, making some cracks on it in the process.

"UGGHK!" Pete groaned in pain.

"With this serum, we could create a brand new world, Peter! THINK ABOUT IT! A world without sickness!! That's what your father and mother would have wanted, isn't it??!!" The Lizard shouted with a growl as he kept pressing Peter into the ground as the cracks and destroyed debris spread.

Then suddenly, something unexplainable occurred. A thin translucent material passed through the Lizard's hand in a blink of an eye, slicing it down into two.

SCREEAHGKK!!!*

The Lizard's screech reverberated across the hallways, he looked at the person who caused him pain with fury and confusion in his eyes while holding his still bleeding, and regenerating hand.

Standing inside a dim-lighted room is a man dressed in black pants and a black trench coat. The odd thing about him, however, was the mask that was covering his face. It was made up of mirrors. A mirror mask to be precise. It reflected everything that was surrounding him including the Lizard looking at him with deep menacing eyes.

"One bug after another! No one will get in the way of my plan!" The Lizard shouted in anger as ran on all fours towards the masked intruder.

Swinging his sharp claws towards the man, he suddenly staggered back when he hit a hard barrier between him and the man.

The Lizard looked at the barrier with curiosity in his eyes as he uttered,

"What is this?!" He banged the glass multiple times before it could even make a crack on it showing how durable it is, and with his last strike, his claws finally reached the other side, but, it was for naught as the man whom he intended to harm can't be seen no more.

He looked around trying to find the masked man when he suddenly felt some extra weight on his back.

Using his right hand, he tried to grab whatever was on his back with great difficulty.

"You! GET OFF ME!" the Lizard shouted in anger. However, it was useless. The person behind him avoided his hands like a plague while clutching into him like a sloth.

The masked man flexed his hand seemingly clasping the air when suddenly, a long sharp translucent structure appeared beside him that punctured the Lizard through his back directly into his heart.

"GRRRRKKKA!" the Lizard screeched in agony, his blood pouring out from his chest. However, right at that very moment, his wound still continues to heal while a glass construct is stabbed right in the middle of his beating heart.

Peter Parker was watching all this right before his very eyes. He saw what the masked man did,

"NOO!" He shouted

He ran towards the masked man then webbed his back trench coat and pulled him back hard.

The man flew towards Peter, while Peter went towards the Lizard in a protective position.

"What is that? Who are you?" Peter asked with vigilance in his voice while looking at the man who just stood up holding his shoulder, seemingly injured.

Then suddenly, Peter's senses went into overdrive. The world seemingly slowed down before his very eyes as he took a big jump and did a back flip completely avoiding the sudden attack that almost cost him his life. And there he saw it, the Lizard's claw attacking from where he was supposed to be.

Landing on the ground in a superhero landing, Peter looked at the two beings in front of him with a widened gaze.

He saw the Lizard run with ferocity toward the masked man. The masked man in turn clasped his hands in thin air.

With a flash of bright orange light, a short blade made up of eldritch construct appeared in his hands. Clutching the short blade tightly in a reverse grip, the masked man readied his stance.

"Bring it on..."
