chapter - 008

- Washington, DC -

[Ethan POV]

It was a cold windy night. Standing atop the Washington Monument, I gaze at the full moon hanging in the sky. Hearing the sounds of sirens, I look down as police cars surround the tower.

I had first thought of going after Arnim Zola but I did not where the scientist was except that his location was somewhere in New Jersey. Then I thought of contacting Fury and telling him about HYDRA but found it plain stupid to do so.

First, I don't have any physical evidence regarding them, and second, the way they know everything about Fury right now, his snooping around will alert them making it difficult to track them further.

Now you might be wondering why I am here in Washington if I want to deal a blow to HYDRA. Of course, it is to make the meaning of their existence meaningless by destroying the only way they could have completed their mission of bringing their god, Hive, back to Earth for further conquest.

I have not found any Inhumans anywhere, even where their base Afterlife should be, so I am guessing they do not exist anymore. But how can I be sure Hive exists? In June, there was an uproar raised by the people when four of the astronauts of NASA had suddenly gone missing.

There was no rocket launch scheduled for this year and the names of the astronauts matched the ones I remember who had been sent through the Kree Monolith to Maveth, though the people here do not know about it except for HYDRA I guess.

I had only one goal in coming here and that is to destroy the Monolith. I do not care about S.H.I.E.L.D.'s reaction to it as I am sure they will be after me regardless of whether they were next in line to get the Monolith. I do not care about the pieces of the Monolith with the HYDRA leaders as they can't use it with the current technology.

And I certainly do not care about the astronauts left on the planet as three of them should already be dead and the last one will only end up being a host for Hive even with the rescue team going after him.

"It's a beautiful night." Looking up again at the moon, I sigh. Ignoring the warnings of the police I jump into the air as the cloak behind me becomes rigid and I fly towards the NASA headquarters. Standing on the monument had withdrawn almost all the security they had kept around the headquarters.

I reach the building and enter through the window as alarms go off. Looking around, I see scientists running around and guards coming to me. Seeing their innocent, clueless but stern faces, I decide to go lighter on my approach as truncheons appear in my hands.

Dodging a baton from one of the guards, I hit behind his knee with a truncheon making him kneel as I chop his neck to knock him out. Side-stepping a taser, I move towards the one who shot it and knock him out too. Looking behind, I see the last guard lying on the ground, shivering on the ground with two taser darts stuck to his chest.

I start moving down the floors while facing the guards coming at me and sometimes meet up with panicked scientists who encounter me and start running away. It's not like I have touched any of them that they have such fear. Dumb people.

Entering the basement, I find myself in the restricted section of the building. The whole floor was covered in red light as if telling the people here of the crisis the building was facing. Me.

As I moved forward, I begin to notice various rooms filled with tech that should be 5 years in advance of the current times. Devoid of any people, the whole floor was an easy access to me. Looking in one of the rooms, I notice an image of the Tesseract on a computer with various readings shown around it.

Noting the name P.E.G.U.S.U.S., I search for any file reading at it so I can keep it for any future use. Finding my target with the stamp of confidential, I move toward my original target - The Kree Monolith.

It had been easy to find, but difficult to get close to as it was locked behind a heavy iron gate. Had to break the gate with a pickaxe. Seeing the black stone from the distance, I keep on taking out heavy hammers and throwing them at the Monolith as I do not want to get close to it.

It could swallow me up and send me to Hive. I had some doubts if Khonshu's power will be able to destroy Kree's technology, but seeing the cracks forming on the large stone, I heave a sigh of relief.

I suddenly get startled when loud noises start coming from behind me. It means I have to hurry up, which I do. Keeping the same pace of throwing hammers at the Monolith for ten minutes, I keep looking behind me for any surprise attacks as they will push me towards the stone when suddenly a large shock wave passes through the whole building, throwing me off my feet.

I get up and see the Monolith turn to dust which begins to fade away.

Taking one last look at the place where the Monolith was, I turn around and run, taking the shock wave provided me to escape as I do not want to hurt those poor fellows who don't even know they are being used by HYDRA for their benefit.

I would have loved to see the faces of the HYDRA leaders when the information of the destruction of their beloved stone reaches them. They had hoped to bring Hive to Earth by making him possess any of the astronauts but now he will continue to remain there.

Coming out of the building, I find myself surrounded by police who have their guns raised at me.

"We have you surrounded. Cease any resistance and surrender." One of the officers speaks through the microphone. I look around and then look up at the clear sky. Idiots. Didn't they see me fly?

I turn towards the officer who spoke and raise my middle finger at him. Turning around, I shoot through the sky leaving the below speechless, and turn toward the now ashamed police officer.
