He didn't eavesdrop on the conversation in the hospital room. Regardless of what choice Lorna made, Zane would give her full respect.
And whether Lorna acknowledged it or not, Zane already had a response prepared.
If Zane knew what Magneto initially wanted to recruit Lorna for, he probably wouldn't be as calm as he is now.
Maybe the Brotherhood would have disappeared from the Earth the next day.
Seeing Zane's tense appearance, Lorna couldn't help but laugh, then mischievously leaned close to Zane's ear and whispered softly.
"Compared to him, you're more like my dad, what do you think?"
Upon hearing this, Zane was instantly at a loss. If I were her dad, wouldn't that mean we... Oh, never mind, but come to think of it, it's kind of exciting.
But now that Zane got the response he wanted, he completely relaxed.
Feeling relieved, Zane hugged Lorna tightly.
"Tonight, if you don't call me daddy, I'll consider myself defeated."
And with the weight lifted off her shoulders, Lorna was feeling spirited. Naturally, she wouldn't back down.
"Watch me drain you dry tonight!"
With laughter echoing down the hallway, Zane and Lorna gradually disappeared from sight.
Leaving Magneto alone on the hospital bed, enduring the torment of his own conscience. Although it was bleak, it was what he deserved.
Just as Zane and Lorna were about to leave the S.H.I.E.L.D. building, Nick Fury hurried over and stood in their way.
"Mr. Zane, please wait."
In a good mood, Zane didn't ignore Fury's presence this time.
Magneto was a knot in Lorna's heart, but he was also a knot in Zane's heart.
Now in a good mood, Zane didn't mind exchanging a few words with this annoying guy, as long as he didn't overstep.
"What's up?" Zane asked.
"Dr. Banner has regained consciousness and wants to see you."
Nick Fury cautiously observed Zane's expression, afraid that this living legend might get impatient.
"Okay, bring him to me." Zane readily agreed.
This response completely caught Nick Fury off guard. He stood there dumbfounded for a few seconds before smiling and instructing his men to bring Dr. Banner over.
Poor Nick Fury, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., was almost developing a psychological shadow from being bullied by Zane.
Shortly after, Nick Fury brought Zane and the others to a meeting room, and five minutes later, Dr. Banner walked in.
And naturally, Nick Fury left, giving Dr. Banner and Zane space to talk.
In fact, Nick Fury had his reasons for taking the risk of asking Zane and Banner to meet.
On one hand, he wanted to confirm whether Banner would transform into the raging Hulk again.
On the other hand, he hoped that by constantly interacting with Zane, he could gradually ease the awkward relationship between S.H.I.E.L.D. and Zane.
Little did he know, Zane didn't care about them at all.
The perspective of S.H.I.E.L.D. was too narrow, limited to just a small planet.
But Zane's vision had already expanded to the vast universe; he just lacked an opportunity...
"Mr. Zane, thank you for stopping Hulk."
Dr. Banner spoke first in the meeting room, expressing his gratitude to Zane.
Zane nodded calmly, accepting Banner's gratitude without hesitation.
"So, what can I do for you?" Zane asked casually.
"Mr. Zane, although it may seem presumptuous, I still want to confirm, will I turn into that monster again?" Banner's expression carried three parts hope, three parts anxiety, and four parts fear.
Although he had felt Hulk inside him disappear after regaining consciousness, and he showed no signs of losing control.
But after being tormented by Hulk for so many years, he still worried that he would transform into the Green Giant again, causing harm to innocent people.
As for why he asked Zane, the reason was simple.
Zane was so far the only person who unilaterally forced Hulk to revert to Banner.
Scratch that he simply outright killed Hulk at least he hopes so that Hulk is dead.
"Do you want to hear the truth or a lie?" Zane joked.
"Um..."
"Forget it, I won't tease you. You scientists have no sense of humor."
Seeing Banner's embarrassed appearance, Zane's mischievous humor didn't receive the response he expected.
He could only shrug indifferently and tell Banner the truth.
"If you're talking about the Hulk, then yes, he's dead."
Before Banner could show a joyful expression, Zane's next words extinguished the spark of hope in his heart like a bucket of cold water poured over him.
"But, the gamma energy in your body didn't die with the Hulk! It still exists in every one of your cells."
After hearing Zane's words, the joy that had appeared on Banner's face instantly dimmed, and after a moment of silence, with the last trace of hope, Banner asked:
"How much time do I have left?"
As soon as Banner asked this question, Zane had a strange feeling.
Why does this feel like a conversation in a hospital?
Zane seemed like a doctor, and Banner like a patient with a terminal illness.
"What do you mean 'how much time do I have left'? You're in great shape, you could live for decades."
Realizing his slip of the tongue, Banner awkwardly scratched the back of his head.
"Sorry, Mr. Zane, what I meant was, how long until I turn into that monster again?"
"I can't say for sure, it mainly depends on the choices of the gamma energy in your body." Zane said seriously, looking at Banner.
"The choice of the gamma energy?"
Banner was completely confused by Zane's cryptic words.
Seeing Banner's confused expression, Zane showed a look of disdain.
Seeing Zane's disdainful gaze, even someone with seven doctorates like Banner began to doubt his own intelligence.
"That, Mr. Zane, could you explain it more clearly?"
Banner recognized every word Zane said, but when they were put together, he was completely stumped.
Seeing Banner's baffled appearance, Zane knew that even if he explained it to him, he wouldn't understand it for a while.
