[Next day]
Morgan's eyes fluttered open, adjusting to the rays of sunlight streaming through the half-open curtains. For a moment, she had no idea where she was but soon she sat up in shock, feeling the warm and soft bed beneath her.
The memory of what had transpired was still foggy. She remembers seeing her dad saving her from the lab, but wasn't he supposed to be dead? She looked around the room and for a moment she thought she was dreaming.
'Is this real?' She thought glancing at her palm and then touching the bedsheet. She felt its silky texture and confirmed that all these were real. But... how? The question struck her mind. She turned to the door when the scents of roasted butter wafting through the air flooded her nose and gave rise to the rumbling in her belly.
Someone was cooking! And there was only one person she knew who could cook such a delicious smell. Tears filled her eyes as she somehow got down from the bed and tried to run, but years of being confined within a glass tube took its toll and she lost her balance. Thankfully the desk was near and she held onto the table tightly to not fall.
This small action woke her sleeping muscle and a soft ache followed, making her groan, but she wanted to go out and check if the person downstairs was really the one she knew or not. With shaky legs, she started moving and then slowly, step by step, she came outside and almost fell on her butt. Her muscles had weakened and couldn't take the strain of this small walk.
'Dad!' she tried calling out mentally but instead, a cough escaped. A light and itchy pain formed inside her lungs which made her cough even more. She rested her hands on the pillar and bent forward a little. 'Is it real or just another one of my dreams? Everything feels so real, just like the last time. Please... Be real...'
Bruce, who was still using Tony's face, hearing a small cry from above the stairs, turned back to meet the sight of his daughter holding onto the staircase. It seemed she wanted to run, but her legs couldn't let her. Tears filled her eyes when she looked at him.
"D-d-d-ad..." It was hard to speak, and a mild sting on her skin spread across her throat. Even though it was painful, Morgan couldn't care about any of it because the next moment she saw her dad coming toward her.
He went closer and looked at her.
"Y-you really came!" She murmured as tears flooded her eyes. It was all too real, but that didn't stop Morgan from asking if she was dreaming again, as the last time she did it, her dad faded right in front of her eyes, leaving her in the nightmare called "reality" alone.
"It's real," Bruce said with a warm smile. "I've got you." He helped her up and walk down the stairs. "This is not an illusion, it is all real... Believe me."
"H-How? You... died." Morgan managed to say through tears as he held her tightly.
"Mm, it is quite a long and interesting story. C'mon, let me tell you a story over breakfast this time," Bruce smiled, feeling relieved as she looked better than before.
...
Harley waltzed into the dining room with a towel wrapped around her wet hair. "Hey, Brucey, what's for breakfast today?" She stopped, noticing Morgan sitting down beside the table, "Ooh, you woke up. Nice." She dragged a chair and sat beside her.
"You finished your round?" Bruce's voice came from the kitchen.
"Yup! All done. Everything's fine. Oh, Selina asked me to tell you she'll be bringing a new friend tonight, so there's that and those lil' kids are doing good," Harley informed.
"You are...?" Morgan asked in a low voice.
"Me? Harley Quinn, Wonder Harley, or Super Harley, you can pick one. Some call me a nutjob but, no, I'm not." She stuck her tongue and said the last line playfully. "Got it?"
"Harley!" Bruce said, narrowing his eyes from the kitchen.
"What?! I didn't swear!"
Bruce sighed and took off the apron. He served the food.
Harley bickered with Morgan and tried to steal her food using her enhanced speed, but Morgan, although weak, still had her powers. She saw Harley stealing two dino nuggets and eating them at lightning speed.
"Hey, that's mine," Morgan whined as Harley tried to steal her nuggets. "You have your own share."
"I didn't do anything," Harley said, looking away while whistling.
"Harl," Bruce gave her that look.
"Sorry. Old habits die hard. You can have mine," Harley said, but when she glanced at her plate, she saw her egg toast was missing. She glanced at Bruce, then at Morgan. "You didn't just use super speed to steal my food."
Morgan copied Harley's expression, "I don't know what you are talking about." She bit the toast she had just stolen from the crazy blonde.
"Ooh, you got some guts, girl. Using superpower just after waking up," she chuckled and raised a fist for a fistbump, "respect."
Morgan didn't understand much, but it seemed she passed Harley's test somehow. She raised her fist,
"Boom."
Bruce couldn't help but chuckle to see his daughter smile and enjoy the light banter.
"So, Dad, tell me that story..." Morgan asked after drinking the orange juice.
Over the next few hours, Bruce told Morgan what happened after the snap and how he was reborn in another universe and spent years there. The more he explained things the more she grew curious about this place.
Morgan used to love stories when she was little and whenever her dad went on a business trip he always brought her some books. Today, when her dad, whom she never thought she would see again, told her about his adventure after death, it only reminded her of the novel that she used to read.
"...and here we are..." Bruce finished recounting all the happenings in detail.
"That's awesome. It sounds like the novels I read when I was a kid," Morgan smiled dreamily and then she looked toward Harley with a sly smirk.
"Don't say it, lil' girl," Harley said as her eye twitched.
"You crashed on the moon and tried to draw graffiti," Morgan giggled.
Harley shot Morgan a mock glare, folding her arms as if offended. "Hey, I was testing new artistic boundaries. The moon needed some color, you know? Besides, it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!"
Morgan burst out laughing, covering her mouth to stifle the giggles. "Yeah, you die once. So, I agree... Once in a lifetime opportunity."
Bruce chuckled, handing Morgan another piece of toast. "Harley has her own unique approach to problem-solving. Right, Harl?"
Harley shrugged with a grin. "Hey, what's life without a little danger? Besides, if Bruce here hadn't been around with his fancy gadgets, I probably would've just held my breath all the way back!"
Morgan's eyes sparkled with amusement, then softened as she looked at her dad. For the first time in years, she felt like things might actually be okay.
"By the way, did you really steal a Demi-Goddess's armor, and mimicked her? What was the name again? Ah! Wonder Woman, right?" Morgan asked curiously.
"Yeah, I did something I ain't proud of. Diana put me through hell for that, but then she gave me a new armor, so, I forgave her," Harley grinned cheekily as she snagged some nuggets from Morgan, again after finishing hers, but she paid her no heed.
"You do realize that she didn't put you through that isolation training just because you stole her armor, right?" Bruce raised a brow and crossed his arms with a smirk.
"Argg... Alright, alright... Enough about me. How about we take a walk around?" Harley asked Morgan. "I think you really need to get used to that body of yours after years of sleeping, right? And it will help you clear your thoughts."
Morgan looked at Bruce.
"Alright, get some fresh air, then we'll pay Pepper a visit. You need to decide what to do with her after all," Bruce said with a serious expression.
"Sigh!" Morgan sighed. "Yeah, I know. But right now, I need some fresh air and stretch my legs a bit. You want to come with us?" she asked Bruce.
