Chapter Four

Annalise Smith

The final interview was at the Grey Enterprise Holding Inc close to campus. It's a world leader in communication technologies, sustainable energy and intelligent system development. At the vestibule of the building you could see a GEH logo and at the peak of the building. This building has ten floors including a lower level and a penthouse. In total it was a twelve floor building. Layla and Scarlett volunteerd in taking me to the company which was a thirty minutes drive from our apartment. The moment I stepped out of the lift I was greeted by the of blast of cool air. At the reception you could see a designer 'Arkitek glass table which adds a touch of class to the reception.

A lot of people walking around hastily to get things done. They were all in Navy color attire. Most of the women wore tailored, knee length A line or straight skirts, their jackets were classically styled with lapels. I was welcomed by the receptionist, he should be in his mid-twenties by his looks. His lush, mother lode-gold he groomed so carefully. His aquiline nose complimented his cheekbones, his basalt blue eyes were orb rounded and darted constantly, those eyes you could definitely get lost in. He introduced himself as Charlie

"Hello, my name is Annalise Smith. I have an appointment with Miss Avery at two pm

"Please, follow me this way". He said leading me to what looks like a waiting room with grayish off-white with white colors. I sat down quietly waiting for the interviewer to come.

"Miss Smith, sorry for keeping you waiting. Shall we?" She said.

"Yes of course" I said trailing behind her, walking into the elevator, she clicked the seventh floor on the keypad and the close button to close the door.

"Let's restart", she said "I am Avery the hiring manager of Grey Enterprise. As you know this company pride's itself on transforming what is possible, and is a global leader in communication technology, sustainable energy and next generation farming. I'll be asking you a few questions". "You can have a sit. She said gesturing for me to sit.

" First question; why did you apply for this secretarial position?

" well, I applied because I am passionate about creativity and sustainability as a business and this was one of the first aspects that brought me to your company", answering her question.

"What do you think are the most important skills a secretary should have?".

"Um, I believe that the role of a secretary is an integral part of any office environment and that you need to be an all rounder with the ability to multitask and adapt where necessary".

"Okay uh, what are your main motivations to succeed at work", she asked looking into my eyes.

"I believe self-motivation is the key to being a good secretary, and as a self disciplined individual I am able to successfully inspire my self".

"We're moving to the fourth question. Describe your best boss and your worst boss".

"I do not believe that something like a great boss or worst boss exists. Each of us has some preferences and we are all different". I said keeping my hands on my laps.

"Tell my one thing about yourself you wouldn't want us to know" she said looking into my eyes

"Speaking honestly, I do not think there is anything I'd prefer you not to know about me, just like everyone else I made some mistakes and I have my share of strengths and weakness- like any other employee. I can admit these things and believe that I learned from my mistakes. Certainly, there are some things I did in my personal life that I'm not very proud of, and if you knew about them, you might change your opinion about me". I said boldly.

"Grey Enterprise is reaching out to thank you for coming to today's interview. It was a great pleasure to meet with you and get to know you better. As our next step is to evaluate all the interviewee's, please allow up to number of days for us to reach back to you". Avery said.

"Thank you so much for meeting with me today, and I'm very excited about the opportunity to join Grey Enterprise and help develop wold class content with your team.

l look forward to hearing from you about the next steps in the hiring process". I told her,

Leaving her office going towards the elevator.

I turned back, only to hit the stone-hard chest of a tall man. Frowning and rubbing my forehead, I raised my eyes. I couldn't move. There he was, standing right in front of me. He wore a white button down shirt, a Chino's pants with white sneakers. It was the perfect counterpart to his skin. He pulled his sunglasses lower down his nose and fixed me with that cold stare of his.

" why are you here" he asked keeping his eyes focused on me, looking me up and down, as if he couldn't believe I was real. His deep voice makes me crawl under my skin.

"I, I ...stammered.

"Sir, this is Annalise Smith, she's one of the interviewee's". Avery said out of nowhere, Thank God for Avery for interrupting us. It would've been worse I thought.

"Sorry for her disturbance, sir" it won't repeat itself". she said pleading on my behalf.

"Did she get the job?" he asked

"Um, we haven't evaluate all the interview's yet, sir". she replied a little hesitant.

"I want her working" he said shortly leaving both Avery and I in suprisise.

Reaching our apartment, I had a cold shower ate some snacks while I googled about Grey Enterprise, and it's young billionaire. He landed eight on the list of fifteen and is worth $2.2 billion thanks to his work in manufacturing and investment. Entering my Instagram page I clicked on his profile, scrolling through his pictures, admiring his features. For some reason I was wondering if he's gay cause he'd never snap with a woman. I felt relieved actually to be sincere. What am I doing I thought.

Day's flew by quickly, I had so many expectations on my first day of work, when I received a call that kept me happy for days. It's a dream come true working with GEH.

"Is this Miss Smith?" I heard from the other end of the phone

"Yes, this is Miss Smith". I replied

"Miss Smith, this is Grey Enterprise".

"Oh, hello, how are you doing?" I asked

"Miss Smith, we were very pleased with your interview and would like to offer you the position". she said

"Wonderful, I am very happy to be able to join your organization". I replied very happily.

"We are interested in having you as soon as possible, perhaps in two weeks?

"Yes, that would be perfect". I said smiling at my self

"We will see you then". she said ending the call.
