Damon’s Childhood Part 4: Revelation

A week was left in the summer vacation then the schools would start, everything stayed the same; My mother kept on ignoring me most of the time, while my father treated me normally.

One day my father suggested going shopping to buy new clothes before school starts, but my mother didn't want to accompany us and she stayed behind at home with my little sister.

So I and my father hit the road to the mall to buy new clothes, while we were picking something suitable my father's phone rang so he picked the phone out of his pocket to see who was the caller.

"Oh it's your Mom she is calling me-" my father said.

,

"You continue looking while I take your mother's call"

Then he left me alone and went to answer the call, while I was swapping through the clothes I found something suitable for me, so I ran to my father to ask for his opinion.

Just when I was about to ask him I heard him talking to my mother on the phone angrily,

"Did you lose your mind?!"

,

"Are you going to give your son away just like that?"

,

"Murderer?! How can you call your son that?"

,

"He just lost control he didn't mean to set the house on fire"

As soon as I heard that all my suspicions became clear, my mind went hazy and I felt my whole body getting hotter, then my hand was set on flames, which grew more and more engulfing my whole arms then my body whole down.

I took a few steps backward from the fright then I tripped over something, my father could hear me so he turned back to find that flames had spread throughout my whole body.

My father was panicking; he looked around to see if there was anyone around, once he made sure that no one saw us, he grabbed my hand which was burning hot and ran to the changing room to hide.

When my father held my hand he was in pain but he endured it, at that moment I remembered the rule he mentioned before;

" If ever anything weird happens to you, make sure to get away from people as far as you can"

My flames kept getting intenser inside the changing room, and my father was getting hurt so I tried to push him away saying,

"Dad, let me go, you are hurting"

But my father didn't let me go, instead he held me tightly even though he was in pain, he said with a weak voice,

"If you get out now, they are going to take you away-"

,

"I can't let that happen-"

,

"Just calm down as long as I am with you nothing will go wrong"

My father's speech calmed me and my flames got weaker gradually, but it was too late as my father had received severe burns all over his body.

He was hospitalized for a few days because of acute inflammation but unfortunately, he didn't make it and died.

Everything happened in front of my eyes too fast, that not any of them could sink in, I kept going on about the denial of my father's death till I stood in front of his soulless cold body in the coffin to bid my last farewell before he was buried.

This was my second funeral this summer, as I stood before my father, I had many mixed feelings, being sorry was the strongest of them.

I couldn't say anything at all but tears were flowing from eyes like a river and my knee lost strength so I crumpled on all four and continued crying...

Since my late father's death, my mother would cry in their bedroom the whole night with the lights turned on.

She would have puffy eyes every morning from crying the whole night, she became weaker by the day.

This continued till the summer vacation ended and the first day in school came.
