Damon’s Childhood Part 5: Betrayal

My mother was still mourning over father; she would spend all night crying in the main bedroom where they used to sleep together and she would wake up late by midday.

I had to prepare breakfast every morning for myself and for my little sister, I was young back then so all I could do was instant ramen.

I wished if my mother would scold me or something so that we could get over this, but she didn't even talk to me at all, that silence was much worse.

Whenever I tried to talk to her, she would look away and ignore me as if I am air to her, no I felt that I was even less than air to her, at least she would breathe air.

Every day passed I felt that my mother was getting further away from me.

This continued till the schools had started once again and the summer vacation was over.

On the morning of the first day in school, I woke, took a bath then I changed into my uniform.

After I was ready, I went downstairs to prepare breakfast as usual, but to my surprise, my mother had already woken up, prepared breakfast and she was waiting for me.

When I saw that I felt that my heavy heart got lighter, I sat in front of the warm breakfast that my mother had prepared and I started digging in stuffing my cheek with food.

Mother was just looking at me silently as I was eating. After I cleaned the food off the plate I smiled at my mother and said,

"Thanks for the food, It was delicious-"

,

"I can't wait for your breakfast tomorrow"

Then I heard the bus's sound so I got up to catch up the bus before it went, just when I was about to grab the doorknob to open the house's door, I felt my whole body getting heavier and my strength was diminishing so I fell on the ground.

With the last remaining strength I had, I extended my hand towards my mother asking for help, but she kept looking at me from a distance as I fainted.

Now that I think about it, my mother must have put sleeping pills in my breakfast, and I ate it all like a fool…

When I regained my consciousness, my eyes were blindfolded as I felt them on my eyes, so I couldn't see anything other than darkness and my hands were tied behind my back.

It felt as if I was on the road as I could feel the floor vibrating under me, I tried to wiggle around to untie myself but then I heard a rough voice saying,

"It seems that the little boy woke up"

He then took the blindfold off me forcibly, he was a big man of well-build, he had a light beard and his face was rough like his voice, he was wearing like military personnel.

He said in a warning tone, "Don't try to escape, you are already a possession of the government."

"P-possession ?! What are you talking about? Where is my mother?" I asked that wondering.

"You mean the mother who abandoned you and gave you up to the government?" The man replies.

After hearing that I fell into despair I didn't care about anything anymore, I didn't have the will to live anymore…

They put me in a military facility, where they kept on dragging me from an experiment to another and I passed day by day like that staying there as a lab rat, till the principal came and picked me up.

When I was enrolled in the school, I decided not to use my powers at all, to show my mother that she had made a mistake, because if she didn't give up on me we would have been living together peacefully now.
