As my interactions with Sebastian continued, our conversations delved deeper into the realms of philosophy, literature, and art. Within the sanctuary of the library, we explored the intricacies of thought and exchanged ideas that sparked new insights. The walls of the library became a refuge, shielding us from the chaos of the world outside.
James granted me rare permission to leave the confines of the mansion, albeit accompanied by Sophia, Clair, and a retinue of guards. Our destination for the day was the Amethyst boutique—a haven of elegance and refinement. Though I yearned to wander through the bustling streets and explore the Amethyst merchants freely, the need for caution prevailed in my mind.
Entering the boutique, we were greeted by an atmosphere of sophistication. The delicate fragrance of lavender permeated the air, infusing the space with tranquility. The boutique's tasteful decor and meticulously arranged displays showcased an exquisite collection of garments, jewelry, and accessories.
As I perused the offerings, my gaze was captivated by the intricate craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail. Each item seemed to possess an undeniable allure, beckoning me to explore further. The staff, unaware of my connection to the boutique, treated me with warmth and professionalism, guiding me through the selection process.
Venturing beyond the confines of the mansion into the vibrant capital city was a thrill in itself. The streets pulsed with life, the voices of the city's inhabitants intermingling with tantalizing aromas of street food. It was an intoxicating tapestry of sights and sounds, a stark contrast to the serenity of the Scarrow mansion.
However, my focus soon shifted to another engagement. Inez had invited me to accompany her to a tea party hosted by one of her friends. Embracing the role of a sheep among the social elite, I carefully chose a white gown adorned with sapphire gemstones. White gloves completed my ensemble, adding an air of sophistication.
As we made our way to the tea party, I couldn't help but contemplate the delicate balance between appearances and reality within the aristocratic circles. Today, I resolved to plant the seeds of doubt, casting Melissa as the villain in this intricate social dance. The stage was set, and I was prepared to play my part with grace and finesse.
I walked next to Inez as she introduced me to some of her acquaintances.
"Oh, you're quite beautiful, Lady Lilith," one of Inez's friends complimented.
I started by acting shy before finally accepting the compliment. I'll make sure they buy this whole innocent Lady act.
"Is that true?", I asked, feigning curiosity.
"Of course."
"But sister Melisa said," I quickly shut my mouth, making them more interested in the conversation.
"God, what did she do now?", Inez asked, visibly annoyed.
"She said I'm a stain in the count's good reputation and am not pleasing to look at," I said softly but loud enough for people around us to hear. "She said it would be better if I had died when I was sick."
"That girl. Don't worry, Lili, I'll deal with her."
"No, don't. If you do, she'll get mad. And besides, she may have been joking," I defended the stupid Melisa, but I really didn't care about what she will do to Melisa. My work here was already done.
