Chapter Five: The Rescue

Ever's POV

"HOLY SHI– YOU SCARED THE HELL OUT OF ME!"

I yelped smacking the person on the arm– feeling oddly at ease around this stranger who from what I could tell was wearing a black leather jacket and had on a black helmet that covered their features and muffled their voice just a bit making it hard to understand what he just said.

"I'm sorry I didn't hear what you said- could you repeat that please?"

I tilted my head in confusion when I heard his buddies laughing behind him. From what I could hear at least one of them was a girl- unless one of them just has a girly laugh. But hey who am I to judge?

Letting out a loud sigh, I think, the person in front of me took off their helmet, and–

Oh wow, he's good-looking!

NOT THE TIME EVER!

At least, that's what I can tell, based off of my flashlight and their headlights that lit up the area.

He has dark hair-possibly black- I can't tell in this lighting. And his eyes are just as dark, I wonder what color they are? He is also really tall maybe 6'1" if I had to guess.

"I asked if you were okay… Are you hurt?"

This guy doesn't look that much older than me, but his voice is so deep! Almost like Corpse Husband.

" Well, if you call being stranded by your now ex-boyfriend in the middle of nowhere with no way back and no cell service okay, then I'm just peachy."  I tried to joke but my voice betrayed me by breaking as I recalled the events from earlier, tears slipping out as well.

"Seriously? What a jackass!" a female voice spoke up coming closer as she stood right next to me.

I was right! One of them was a girl!

I noticed that she too had taken her helmet off, and could tell even in this lighting that these two had to be related somehow.

His sister maybe?

She has long curly hair the same shade as Corpse Jr. Over here. But her eyes are much lighter from what I can tell as the headlights shine bright in them.

"tell me about it… " I muttered sniffing a bit, suddenly feeling shy as I kicked at the rocks under my feet.

Corpse Jr. Stayed quiet as he silently watched me and the woods behind me, probably trying to see if I'm some sort of trap like you'd see on the internet.

"well do you live nearby? Maybe we could give you a ride?"

"Jade! What –!"

"Re-lax bro! If she was some sort of lure– don't you think we would have been jumped by now? Besides she looks like she's about ready to drop from exhaustion! "

The girl– I now know as Jade– snapped at her brother –whom I still don't know the name of– as she wrapped her arm around my shoulders, jumping back a bit when she felt how cold I was.

"Holy shit your freezing! How long have you been out here?! " She asked worried, rubbing her hands on my arms trying to warm me up.

"Well, let me look" I lifted my phone to check the time. It's now 10:50.

Holy crap has it really been that long?

"About three hours now… " I shrugged

"THREE HOURS?! what the fuck?! "

I only shrugged again not knowing what to say.

"to answer your question though… I Iive about an hour and a half by car in the other direction. I thought that the next town was closer so I was just gonna walk until I found a motel or something." I explained leaning up against the nearest tree and crossing my arms over my chest to keep warm.

I hadn't even noticed how cold I was until Jade said something. My thin hoodie did nothing to protect me from the cold.

"I wouldn't recommend staying at any of the motels around here, sweetheart! "  a new voice spoke startling me for a second until I remembered that there were three of them.

When I looked around Corpse Jr. I could put a face to the voice that spoke. He was still mounted on his bike as he held his helmet on his hip.

"unless of course, you want to get mugged." he shrugged, a smirk tugged at his lips.

Rolling my eyes groaning in both annoyance and frustration, I slid down the tree burying my face into my hands as my elbows rested on my knees.

"just fucking perfect! Now, what am I supposed to do?" I muttered more to myself than to anyone else, though I wouldn't mind the feedback either.

After a few seconds of silence, I looked back up to see Jade and C. J. Looking at each other almost as if they were having an intense conversation with only their facial expressions. A conversation that C. J. Seems to have felt defeated in though because he muttered a 'whatever' and walked back towards his bike.

"Come on, you can stay with me and my brother for the night," Jade spoke calmly, reaching for my hand to help me up.

"Oh no, I can't do that! I don't want to intrude—"

"Nonsense! You're not intruding if we offered and we did so let's go!" She left no more room for discussion as she pulled me towards the bikes, before turning towards me again, handing me an extra helmet.

"I guess we should all introduce ourselves since you'll be staying with us huh?" Jade laughed, wrapping her arm around C. J.'s shoulder.

"Well I'm sure you already heard, but my name's Jade and this is my big brother Adrian. Sorry about him, he's just sorta in a bad mood right now, it's a long story,"  she gave me an apologetic smile when C. J. – who I now know as Adrian– a beautiful name by the way– kept his gaze ahead refusing to look at anybody.

Understandable…

"And over there is Jacob, but everyone calls him Jake- he's a bit of an idiot so don't talk to him for too long, or else you'll catch his idiotitis. It's contagious." I brought my hand up to my mouth trying- and failing- to stifle my laughter. Some giggles managed to escape when Jake flicked Jade's ear making her yelp in pain.

"I'm right here ya little shit!" he chuckled, shaking his head in amusement.

"Sorry, not sorry! Anyways, what's your name, gorgeous?" Jade asked as I blushed slightly at the compliment even though at the moment, I feel anything but pretty.

"My name is Ever Monroe, and thank you! You're very beautiful yourself!" I complimented her back, making her smile.

"Ever? That's an interesting name, is it short for anything? Or Is it just Ever?" Jake asked, tilting his head in curiosity.

"Nah, it's just Ever. But it's nice to meet you all! Though I wish it were under better circumstances."  I said honestly, rubbing the back of my neck with one hand and rubbing my stomach with the other.

"Are you sure you're not hurt?" Adrian asked, making me jump in surprise not expecting him to speak so suddenly.

"yeah, I'm sure why?" I asked, still rubbing my stomach.

"Well the whole time we've been talking to you, you've been rubbing your stomach… like right now you're rubbing your stomach… "

My mouth formed an 'O' shape as I nodded in understanding, chuckling slightly as I looked down at my stomach, a soft smile forming on my lips.

"Yeah, I've been doing that since this morning when I found out that I'm pregnant…"

"I see…"

That was all he said as he looked away, seemingly deep in thought, before his eyes widened and he looked back at me, his eyes drifting between my stomach and my face. Probably trying to see if I'm lying.

Why does everyone think I'm lying about something like this?

Like seriously…

I looked over at the other two, chuckling when I saw that they were doing the same thing. Jade was the first to speak– well, I guess yell would be a better term.

"SO YOU'RE TELLING US THAT YOUR BOYFRIEND LEFT YOU HERE- IN THE MIDDLE OF FUCKING NOWHERE- WITH NO WAY BACK, AND NO CELL SERVICE, KNOWING YOU'RE PREGNANT!?"

"That sounds about right, yeah…" I nodded as my lips quirked downward for a second as I frowned at the memory.

"I'm so sorry Chika!" Jade threw her arms over my shoulders pulling me into a warm hug.

Tears streamed down my face as I silently cried into her shoulder, pulling her impossibly closer feeling extremely grateful to these three.

As we pulled away I wiped my tears, shivering slightly when a cold breeze passed through. All of a sudden, a warmth spread throughout my upper body as a black leather jacket was placed over my shoulders.

Wait…

Black leather jacket?...

Isn't this?...

Looking over, I noticed that Adrian no longer had his leather jacket on. Meaning I am wearing his jacket. He's letting me use his jacket. Me. A girl he doesn't even know.

"What about you, aren't you gonna get cold?" I asked, feeling bad, not wanting him to be cold just because my dumbass didn't think to bring a heavier hoodie.

To be fair we didn't know we were gonna be stranded

either…

"I have an extra one in my bag, don't worry about it…"

He said coolly, just as he was pulling out another jacket, this one being a thick black hoodie.

"Oh umm… Okay… Uhh… Thanks… "

I mentally slapped myself in the face for sounding so stupid while I put on his jacket fully, the smell of leather, lavender, and motor oil filled my lungs as I inhaled his scent.

Oh God, I probably look like a creep smelling his jacket!

But I can't help it because he smells good…

Also, it's huge! I look like a little girl trying on her father's clothes!

I could have sworn I heard him whisper about how I looked 'cute', but I decided to ignore it, not knowing if he actually said it or if I was imagining it, which is possible with his tired I am.

"Alright let's get going shall we? Adrian, is it cool if she rides with you? Yeah?– Cool! Let's go!"

Jade asked, not giving her brother time to respond as she climbed onto her bike and took off, Jake following closely behind her.

"shit… " Adrian mumbled looking at the ground, before turning to look at me with slightly tinted cheeks.

"Have you ever ridden a bike before?" he scratched at the back of his neck nervously and I found it kinda cute.

I did not just think that!

Bitch you just broke up with your boyfriend not even four hours ago!

As the great Edna Mode once said…

PULL. YOURSELF. TOGETHER!

Nodding my head, I carefully climbed onto the back of his bike after putting on the helmet Jade gave to me. After taking a second to adjust, I hesitantly wrapped my arms around his waist, resting my head against his back.

"You ready?"

"yeah!"

"Hold on tight!"

He yelled over the sound of his engine before pulling back onto the road and speeding to catch up to his sister and their friend Jake, which we did in what felt like seconds— when in reality it was about two minutes at most. Which is still super fast I guess.

I just hope Bri isn't freaking out too much...

I'll have to call her and explain everything as soon as we get to their house...

I hope she doesn't try to murder Enzo after I call her though...
