Chapter 37: Gauntlet of The Elements / Ogre

After the flash of light disappeared Lucas felt his hand sink as the weight of the glove had increased by at least a hundred pounds.

Lucas examined the item in his hands and found that it was the most beautiful item he had ever created.

It was a gauntlet of a sort, armored to the brim, made out of a dark blue material that looked similar to the Mana Steel he had used in its creation.

It had various rings of runes that intricately lined the inside and back of the glove. The rune clusters seemed to have some sort of magical ability because as he ran his finger down one he felt a slight zapping sensation.

He yanked his finger away from the central rune and continued to inspect it further.

There was no sight of the Crystal and instead, there were just small slots on each finger of the gauntlet, almost like slots for rings to go in, but one was already filled.

The sandstorm shard he had combined with the glove earlier seemed to have turned into a perfect golden ring that was slotted into the forefinger of the gauntlet.

Lucas read the item's description over a few dozen times before finally snapping out of his reverie.

'Why the hell am I this gifted?'

He put on the glove and immediately felt like his burden had been lightened. It felt like his body was much lighter than before and that it was easier to walk.

'Is this due to the wind and sand immunity?'

After he put the glove on he felt it tighten around his hand and become something akin to a glove. It wouldn't hinder his movements like a typical gauntlet would but still had the defensive capabilities of it.

'There has to be someone out there who has made items similar to what I have made... I can't be the only one who has figured out just how broken the crafting system of this system is,'

'And also...'

Lucas raised his hand into the air and felt something in him lurch out. It was as if it was waiting for a command, and a command Lucas gave it.

"Ball,"

Immediately after he said that simple word, everything around him shook lightly as grains of sand pulled themselves out of the ground and swirled into a ball directly at the point he had envisioned.

He pulled his hand back in surprise and the ball collapsed into a heap on the ground.

'So this is what it feels like to have magic... It's exhilarating!'

After calming down Lucas prepared himself to go hunting.

He popped into the main base and waved goodbye to Lina who was busy at work talking to various people about what talents needed to be recruited for the camp to be effective.

"We need healers, bad. If we have no one to help cure the sick or heal the wounded then we will be held back. Does anyone have any ideas?"

A few murmurs echoed through the room before a teenager raised their hand, as if in school.

Lina pointed at him in approval and the boy began to speak.

"I have played some games before... I know it might not be transferable knowledge or useful at all but in the games, I have played if you meet the requirements for a better class then the game usually lets you switch."

"It's called prestige class I think. So maybe if we teach someone enough knowledge on medicine and they have enough experience in the field then perhaps they can get some sort of related prestige class,"

Lina nodded her head lightly with a look of approval on her face.

"I never really messed around with humans before but I have heard rumors of something similar to that before. If anyone shows aptitude for the field of medicine or healing magic then start getting them the experience they need to level up." Lina said as she finally finished the meeting.

After everyone cleared out Lina finally realized that Lucas was waiting at the door for her. She flew her way over towards him and booped him gently on the head with the back of her palm.

"Lukey! What are you getting up to?"

"Nothing much... Just about to go monster hunting,"

Lina frowned immediately and booped him on the head again, this time much harder than before.

"Don't go and die on me now! You better come back with all your pieces intact or I may just have to issue a refund,"

Lucas tilted his head in confusion at the strange statement that had just come out of the fairy's mouth.

"I won't die. You know that. Probably..."

Lina hit him again before kicking him out of the room.

"You get on and go now. I got things to do mister,"

He shrugged at the strange actions of the small child and sighed in relief.

'Now... It's time to kill a monster,'

---

The trip through the city was a pleasant one. There were no beasts hunting in the streets anymore and the environment looked better than it had ever been during his lifetime.

Everything was so... enveloped with life that it sent shivers down Lucas's spine.

'I know people died and all... but... is the apocalypse really that bad?' Lucas proposed to himself.

He continued to take in the sights before he realized he had come upon, what looked to be, a large parking lot. Though this parking lot had a giant sinkhole in the center.

"Seems like this is the spot,"

Lucas put on his gauntlet and pulled out his bat before twirling it gently and activating <Sandstorm Blitz> For the first time.

It was a weird feeling. It was almost as if he had become one with the sand he was becoming and was being flung forward by a volley of air. The sand swarmed around him and left spiraling clouds of sand behind him that slowly disappeared without a trace as time passed.

In just a moment, Lucas had moved 108 feet. If he had blinked he might have missed it.

He felt the exhilaration of the moment and lost himself to it before finally coming back to his senses.

Lucas tried to move forward but found himself stuck in a sticky substance on the ground.

He turned his gaze downwards only to find that he was standing in a pool of gelatinous blood.

He pulled one of his feet out of it and tried to move through it but found that it was simply impossible to move through easily.

Lucas was just about to take a step forward before the entire cave shuddered as something heavy began to move through it.

Lucas looked up but found it to be pitch black.

'Really shouldn't have thrown those goggles away...'

Lucas felt his internal alarms go off as he rolled to the side, narrowly dodging what seemed to be a gigantic wooden club of sorts.

His entire back was covered in sludge as he barely managed to get into a standing position.

Light flooded the room as the club that had swung down on him started to glow menacingly with a red light.

It revealed a massive creature that had boils and blisters on every inch of its body. It had a long snout in the place where its nose should have been and it had bright green eyes.

It flexed its muscular frame and reared up for another swing, this time enhanced by some sort of skill.

Lucas raised his hand towards the creature's singular eye that dominated most of its face and focused intently.

Sand from his previous dash flew at a terrifying speed as it shredded into the creature's eye causing a bit of damage and blinding the crazy-looking creature.

'There is no way that I am going to be able to take on this creature in melee so it looks like letting my bat fly once more is the only option,'

He reared back and tossed the bat at a speed that couldn't be described. It arced through the air and curved directly towards the center of its head.

The creature let out a painful grunt at the sudden scattershot of sand and raised its hands to defend its eye from the unknown assailant.

The bat missed its mark, instead, slamming into the hands of the creature.

The creature growled in frustration before releasing an ear-shattering roar out of anger.

<The user is under the effect of <Fearing Roar>. The user automatically resists the fear effect with the aid of <Dragon Skin>!>

"Man is this a frustrating fight," Lucas thought as he noticed his bat did basically no damage to the creature in front of him.

This is the first officially contracted chapter! I am so happy that I finally have made my first real step into the world of being an author. I hope you all enjoyed the chapter and in the next one, we will see the conclusion of this fight.

I'm going to take more time describing the fight scenes since I feel like I'm not giving them enough justice. So feel free to give me some feedback on them in the next few chapters.
