Infinite Evolution in The Apocalypse

I apologize for the 6-month hiatus. Life hit me in the gonads pretty hard but now I'm here to continue it after I organize everything and sort out the mess I left behind. Thanks for reading! --- The apocalypse is hard to survive in but Lucas Walker would say it was impossible. Having been thrown grumpily into the apocalypse from a long-deserved nap Lucas finds himself in a hell hole that is the apocalypse. Beasts of horrifying strength are everywhere and portals to other worlds have opened leaking strange energies and beings from them. With everyone in the world in chaos will Lucas be able to survive with the special class he received from the system that everyone has? --- By the way, the main class doesn't give many bonuses in the short term and only really comes to full power later on.

Chapter 3: A Not So Real Burial and Free Loot!

Lucas approached the body and noticed quite a few oddities. At first, it looked almost as if she was breathing but on further inspection, it just seemed as if she was glowing around her chest slightly which was equally strange considering her situation though not impossible obviously.

Lucas had meant to give the poor lady a burial or at least cover her eyes and give her some peace but after seeing this strange glow he approached and gently tapped her shoulder to see if there was a reaction and surprisingly there was one as a system prompt followed shortly after him touching the corpse of Susan.

<Absorb Experience from dead <No Class LV:1>?>

"Sure, I guess..." Lucas said as a feeling of guilt overcame him.

'She was a shitty landlord anyway so why am I feeling so bad? Because she helped save my life? She was just about to send her 'boys' to kill me if I didn't leave her apartment complex. This is bullshit.'

<User has absorbed 10 XP and a level 1 common skill called <Dodge>. Would you like to add Dodge to your common skills? You have also gained 1 dexterity point.>

"Fo sho," Lucas said as he realized just how much he had lucked out.

<Body Disintegration Beginning in 3, 2, 1.>

'Wait what?!' Lucas thought as he went to grab Susan before she disappeared in a poof of sparks that made no sound or left any trace of what was left on her body.

"God Damnit!" Lucas said out loud as he realized how weird his morals were at the moment.

<<Dodge: Tier 0 / LV: 1 / Rarity: Common> Gained! Please check your skills to find out more information>

'Just show me the skill already stupid system!' Lucas said in frustration at himself for not knowing how to feel.

---

<Dodge: Tier 0 / LV: 1 / Rarity: Common> Requirement: ABSORBED>

Gained from the death of another you have learned how to dodge what would normally kill a man. You gain a 20% increased speed when dodging at the cost of stamina per second of use. This skill automatically activates unless the user has no stamina left.

---

'This skill doesn't seem too bad... Should increase my survivability quite a bit.' Lucas thought before looking at the fading embers that lingered in the air.

'I wonder how much she suffered to gain this skill?' Lucas thought before moving on. It was never good to keep your head in the past... or the last minute I guess.

<User has leveled up. 10 Stat points have been rewarded.>

'No skill point? I wonder what that does anyways...' Lucas thought to himself as he went to his character sheet to figure out what to put his points into.

<Stat Points: 10>

---

'Hmm... skill points seem a little overpowered but I guess I only get one per tier... whatever that means.'

'Now... what to put my points into.' Lucas thought to himself as he looked through his stats.

'I wonder what each of these stats do...' Lucas thought and as soon as he did so a detailed panel came up with descriptions of each stat.

---

<There are plenty of different hidden effects of stats so make sure to find them out over the course of your journey!>

---

'Interesting!' Lucas thought as a smile crept upon his face.

'So currently my main focuses should be the main physical stats and perhaps power for increased instinct. That should definitely help with my combat prowess and may save my life.'

'System put 5 points into endurance, 3 into power, and 2 into dexterity.'

<Ding~ Done.>

After the ding from the system, a searing heat filled Lucas's body and filled him with a terrible itch that seemed to be coming from under his skin and a sharp pain that resounded right between his eyebrows yet after a moment the pain and itch subsided.

Lucas stretched from side to side and realized he felt much better than before.

'It must have restored some of my stamina. Show my stamina system.'

---

[Name:]

Lucas Walker

Stamina: 11/30

---

'Hmm... I'm almost at a high enough stamina to increase the durability of another item.'

'Perhaps I should use my skill point on <Fortify>.' Lucas pondered before deciding to do so.

'I'm limited in skills and it seems to be my most powerful skill as of now.' Lucas reasoned.

'System use the skill point on <Fortify>!'

<Beginning upgrade process.>

---

<Please choose from the following three options for your evolution path of <Fortify>>

<In Depth Fortify / Rarity: Common>

Using this skill, the user can add stat improvements to items that you fortify and may add stat improvements for a discounted price on all previously fortified items.

<Architects Fortify / Rarity: Uncommon>

Using this skill allows you to fortify parts of a structure making it much more durable and harder to get into. This will also increase the difficulty of picking locks and things similar to that.

<Improved Fortify / Rarity: Common>

Greatly increases the durability and strength of the item you fortify. The item will also improve in grade depending on the users' intelligence. You may improve items that have been improved previously at a slightly discounted stamina cost.

<Please choose one of the above choices>

---

'Hmm... It seems as if they are all pretty strong although the second one doesn't really fit me in my opinion.'

'So between the first and third options. The first option is obviously good for short-term use but the third seems like it could be better in the long term so which to choose...'

Lucas pondered for a few minutes before noticing he was getting hungry and just decided to pick one without much thought.

'I guess I choose number 3. I should be able to increase my baseball bat and that should make it a lot more useful and I have a feeling I may need that in the coming days.' Lucas thought before tapping number 3.

<<Improved Fortify> has been chosen. Your skill has increased to tier 1>

'Show <Improved Fortify> System' He asked politely as Lucas seemed to realize that the system seemed to be on his side.

---

<Improved Fortify: Tier: 1 / LV: 1 / Rarity: Common>: Requirement: Evolve the <Fortify> skill and have already used <Fortify> On one item.

With strength and precision, you can improve buildings and objects to make them more durable. By spending a large amount of stamina(That regenerates slower than normal stamina drain) you can make an object that is no heavier than 50 pounds 20 times as durable and 2 times as stronger/sharper. Using this on a previously <Fortified> Item costs less stamina than using it on a brand new item.

---

Lucas let out a low whistle while looking at the improved skill and realized just how crazy this system really was.

'Am I really even a human anymore?' Lucas thought as he realized just how much his strength had improved in the past 24 hours by killing a single creature.

"Let's get some grub and some water while surveying what supplies I had. And also that thing..." Lucas said out loud while eyeing the bug-like creature that had mostly dead worms surrounding it.

After some searching around in the kitchen, he realized that the power was out and that his stove was useless.

"Good thing I mostly keep crappy canned goods around, haha," Lucas said with a chuckle as he pulled out a few cans of beans and a lot of canned fruit.

"Enough food to last me a few weeks for sure. Maybe even a month if I stretch it."

After looking for food he went to the tap and realized it still worked.

"Better stock up on water while it still works," Lucas muttered while grabbing all the empty bottles of water littering the floor of his wall while filling them up with water.

After filling it up and with what he already had he ended up with a total of 64 water bottles.

"Should last me quite a while."

And after finally counting all of his supplies he began to eat a can of peaches and drank one water bottle.

<2 Positive conditions added. <Well Fed> and <Watered> Added for 2 hours.>

---

<Well Fed>

Stamina regeneration increased by 2 times the usual rate. Health regeneration increased by 1.5 times the usual rate.

<Watered>

Stamina regeneration increased by 2 times (Stacks with Well Fed) the usual rate. Mana regeneration increased by 1.5 times the usual rate.

---

"Sweet." Lucas let out in excitement as he sat and rested for a few hours.

Thanks for reading my book! I hope you have a great day. I'm feeling really inspired today so I might post one additional chapter in the next few hours. But maybe not because I have to work for 8 hours at 12 pm my time which is only an hour or two away.
