Let's get better answers

Human nature is strange. 

There are people who would fight with their lives on their lines just to protect their loved ones, then there are those people who would waste thousands of lives, just to meet their greed. 

"Do you often do such human trafficking?" Hira asked. 

"Yes boss… this would be our fourth batch of this year." Rose replied.

"Tell me something… how could you pull human trafficking in the Baron's territory." 

Hira was not familiar with the Baron's way of working, but the Baron was good at taking care of his territory, from what he got from the people's talk. 

How could there be multiple cases of such trafficking happening in his territory and yet he did not take any action?

"Boss… Lord Daniel has bribed few higher ups to keep the matter out of the Baron's attention. The matter with your shop was also one of the tricks they played to keep the Baron busy." 

"My oh my… you guys are so good at this." Hira was stunned. So many things were happening behind a small shop scuffle. Was it him or was it just too much politics. 

"Thank you for your praise boss. If you want, I can teach you as well." Rose felt very happy being praised by her boss. 

"Whatever… what happens to the captives then?" 

"They are sold as slaves or prostitutes to the neighboring territories. Some of them are used for experiments by the dark alchemists as well." Rose replied.

"Tell me something rose… do you think they deserve this?" Hira asked rose.

"Yes boss… It is every low born's good luck to be used by nobles. They should feel grateful about it." Rose replied, as her eyes were full of pride as if she gave the right answer.

"You bit…" Hira raised his hand to slap her, but then he stopped. He looked into her eyes. They were not the eyes of someone who was demeaning the commoners. Those were the eyes of a young kid who had been brainwashed, for her it was common for nobles to murder, rape or torture the commoners. 

"Bo… boss?" Rose quivered. She could not understand what was wrong with her answer. Wasn't it the correct answer. She had come first in the assassins training and all her answers were always correct. How could she be wrong. 

A tear fell from her eye. 

"Bo… boss… was my answer wrong? Isn't that the correct answer? Please don't hit me." She begged. 

"Haah…" Hira sighed.

He looked around seeing the other employees and customers looking in their directions with weird eyes. 

He held her hand and took her to an isolated room. 

After closing the door and letting her sit comfortably on a chair, he asked

"Who taught you those things?"

"Th… The duke's men." She replied.

"You work for a duke?" Hira was stunned. Didn't she just jump a few levels? 

"Mmm…" She replied, her head down while tears still fell down her cheeks. 

"Don't cry…" Hira swept her tears with his fingers. 

"Listen… what the duke's men taught you is completely wrong." 

"… Huh?" Rose went into a dilemma. 

"Human lives are not to be played with. Think of your brother, do you love him?" 

"No." She replied immediately. 

"Eh…?" Hira almost fell on his face.

"As the assassins of the duke, we must only serve the duke. When duke orders to kill, we kill, if the duke says kill your parents… kill them, if the duke says kill your siblings kill them… if the duke says kill yourself kill yourself." Rose recounted her code as the duke's assassin. 

"Slap…" 

This time Hira could not hold himself.

"Listen to me you fucking shithead. That's just wrong. That's wrong on so many fucking levels." He shouted. 

"…" 

"Wrong? How could it be… I remember it correctly…" Rose was sure that her answer was right. 

"That's not what I mean, whatever they taught you, everything is wrong."

"Ahhh…" Rose suddenly felt a sharp pain in her head. 

"Boss… it hurts… aaaah…" She cried in pain.

"What… What's wrong with you." Hira got worried. Then he heard a voice in his head

[Ding]

[System registered that host feels pain for the person named Rose]

'System… do you know what is happening to her.' Hira asked in his mind. 

[Analyzing target]

[The target is suffering from pain because of hosts words]

'What? How can that be?' Hira was stunned, he just wanted to get her head straight, how come he end up causing her harm? 

[The hosts word defies the logic system that has been programmed in the target. The target's soul is in existential crisis making her feel pain. If this goes, the target might end up with fractured brain and die.]

'What… how do I stop it.'

[The best method will be to remove the obstacle that is contradicting her existence]

'You mean I should have not mentioned that she had been brainwashed. How would that be any better than her being dead.' Hira retorted.

[System recommends the host to not suddenly tell her that her life is all a lie. System suggests breaking her walls one by one]

'I see… I understand now.' Hira understood what the system was trying to say. 

"Aaahhh…" Rose's cried again.

Hira held her face as he tried talking to her.

"Hey rose… stay with me… I was just kidding earlier… don't take it too seriously… calm down"

"Kid… kidding?" Rose's pain suddenly decreased.

"Yes… I was just kidding with you earlier. I didn't know you would take it too seriously. I am sorry." Hira said.

"No… No boss, don't be sad. I am sorry I couldn't get your joke." Rose replied weakly as her breathing started to calm down. 

Seeing her finally stop crying in pain, Hira sighed in relief. 

'System what should I do now' He asked the system.

[The person named Rose has currently faced a direct attack on her conscience, it is suggested that host start breaking her barriers one by one]

'Alright…' Hira said as he looked at Rose, he sat her back down on the chair and gave her a glass of water to drink.

"Here"

"Thanks boss…" Rose drank the water and relaxed as her breathing was back to normal in a few minutes.

"So, do you feel better now." 

"Yes boss… I feel normal now. All the pain from before is completely gone." Rose replied.

"Okay… I am sorry for my joke earlier." Hira apologized again.

"It's okay boss… It was actually quite funny." Saying that she laughed. Of course, those who are under his abilities will try to make him feel better even at the cost of their lives. 

"Sigh…" Hira sighed before he looked in her eyes. 

"But you know what, I still think there are a little bit of problems here and there with your answers. How about we talk a little to get better answers. 

"Better answers? You mean I can improve on my answers." She looked at him, confused. 

"I don't know, may you will end up getting completely different answers in the end. But I think it's worth a try. What do you say." He smiled at her.

"Umm… Sure boss. Let's get better answers." She replied innocently.

Hira smiled.
