The Capable Bodyguards

Conan stopped the carriage when he saw that his path was blocked by an iron wall, and not just from the front. The iron wall surrounded them from every corner, there was nowhere to escape.

" Skill Activate [ Strong Body]" Conan shouted as his muscle expanded and his height increased. He wielded both of his axes in his hand to counter the incoming attacks from the enemy.

Roy has also come out of the carriage and jumped on the roof. He looked around to spot the enemy but couldn't see anything.

" Skill activate [ Mind Connect]" Roy spoke, this skill allowed him to create a telepathic link between him and others. He created a link with Max, Conan, and Dave as well.

' Max tell us where is the enemy.' Roy initiated the conversation through the mind link.

Dave knew about this skill beforehand, he was told by these guys how they usually fight. Roy acts as support and the main strategist of the party, he only had two skills but both of them were suited to his role.

Max, on the other hand, was the most important person in thier party, someone who can not be sacrificed until the end of thier battle. He communicated the type of dangers they are facing to the other two members of the party and also fought on the frontlines providing support only when it was necessary.

All three of them had a similar class [ Adventurer] and the condition to level up this class was to complete missions and quests given by the guild. He didn't enquire about thier level because he believed that they must have already been somewhere around five or six.

' The enemies are going to jump at once, I say that because they are trying to form some kind of circle around us.' Max spoke.

' Alright leader, break the wall.' Roy gave the command and the next second Conan swings his axes with all of his strength. In one strike he obliterated the wall in front of him. Dave was able to see that happening as Roy also started to share his vision with Max and him. The wall was cut from the very bottom and now there was an exit from the front.

' Roy, be ready to aim your arrows, one of the enemies is coming from your left.' Max spoke

Just as the enemy jumped Roy already had his arrow ready. He shouted the name of his second skill [ Bullseye] and when the arrow left the bow it curved in a way that the enemy was unable to avoid it and was caught in the middle of his jump toward them.

' 4 More from the left!' Max spoke, as his skill was showing him the directions from where the danger was coming on a system window.

Roy loaded two arrows and fired at the same time, again activating his [ Bullseye] skill, Conan also turned towards the upcoming enemy. Two were dealt by Roy's arrows and the other two were grabbed and smashed by Conan. His strength and speed were even greater than the man they had seen near the inn, he wondered after activating the [ Strong Body] what would be his stats at, after all, his physical stats were three-time the normal ones.

' Max, come out and drive the carriage, we will fight and clear a way for you.' Roy commanded.

Max left Dave alone inside to drive the carriage, there was debris spread all around them. Just as he started to drive, the iron wall once again rose in front of the horses but they didn't stop. Conan was running in front and once again cut the wall from the bottom.

Max was controlling the panicked horses skillfully until he sensed something.

' Hide Everyone!' He shouted as a sea of flames came from the front. Dave saw the vision of the flames being shared by Roy.

' Everyone near the carriage' Dave delivered the message and everyone knew what he meant. Once they were all near the carriage, Dave activated [ Invisible Shield] to protect everyone.

Soon after the sea of flames, several metal spikes rose from the ground near the wheels of the carriage. It completely trapped them, Dave was surprised to see the spikes, he made a mistake and didn't cover the ground below with the wagon.

Max saw two people in the front and others on the roofs of the houses. They were trapped and had nowhere to go.

'...I think they have a mage class among them.' Max spoke.

Dave could feel how the confidence of the three adventurers was wavering after knowing that. On the other hand, Dave wasn't able to understand what type of threat a mage can raise against them.

' Should I use that right now?' Dave thought in his mind. He was going to use his [Mark of Death] skill, a skill that was supposed to strengthen him permanently.

He didn't use the skill because he didn't want to reveal something like that to Oscar.

' We are going to run on foot, let's go Mr. Jin.' Roy commanded.

Dave sighed and opened the door to jump out. Max and Roy jumped behind him, and Conan in the front ran straight for the two of them.

' I need your shield.' Conan sent a message and Dave quickly activated his skill and covered Conan with a shield as he ran forward. One of the men in the front fired several fireballs but it didn't even make a scratch on the shield.

Before they knew it Conan was in front of them and swung his axes at both of them but his attack was blocked by an iron wall. Conan only managed to damage the wall and the two men retreated. They could see that the two men never turned toward them, confused by thier actions Conan asked Max what was happening.

' They are retreating!' Max informed in a shocked voice, ' All of them.'

It only meant that they were not the target of these people and someone else was.

' Are they only after those kids?' Dave realized that these people might not be bandits.
