Chapter 25

"I'm outside the building," Lexie texted Lucas. After finishing her charts and returning them to Cristina, Lexie proceeded to drive directly to the Bushwell Plaza as quickly as she could. She wanted to spend a little time with Lucas before she takes him home.

"I hope you don't mind waiting for a bit. I'm still finishing up here, but my friend tells me that you can take the personal residence elevator and directly press apartment 8-C. You can ask the doorman for the access key to the apartment floor," Lucas texted back.

"Fancy," Lexie muttered under her breath. She found it impressive that Lucas's friend lived in a building in the middle of Seattle and even had an elevator that opened directly to their apartment.

As Lexie stepped into the Bushwell building, her gaze scanning the main lobby. To her surprise, there was no one stationed at the reception desk. She furrowed her brow, realizing that the doorman might be in the room behind the desk. Determined to get their attention, she reached out and pressed the call bell, it's clear sound resonating through the empty space.

Ring...

Ring...

Ring...

After repeatedly pressing the call bell and receiving no response, Lexie grew frustrated. She decided to proceed to the regular elevator but was abruptly halted by a piercing scream coming from the back room.

"Ah!" a man shouted, his voice incredibly high pitch as he approached Lexie. Clearly annoyed, he stated, "What do you want!?"

For a moment, Lexie was taken aback by the doorman's rude behavior, but she quickly forgot about it due to her attention immediately locking on the massive wart on the man's left cheek.

"Hi, I'm sorry for continuously pressing the call bell," Lexie said gently, her gaze never leaving the doorman's prominent wart. As a doctor, she couldn't help but wonder how such a thing could grow so large. It was both gross and impressive at the same time.

"You better be! I was watching my nighttime drama shows!" the doorman exclaimed in an exaggerated manner.

"Once again, I apologize," Lexie reiterated. Deciding to focus the conversation to a more important topic rather than the card key, she added, "You know, you can have that removed, right?"

"Removed?! What are you talking about?!" the doorman shouted once more.

Lexie couldn't help but wonder if the doorman only knew how to shout instead of speaking like a normal human being. However, she decided to inform him about her profession and how she might be able to help him.

"I'm actually a doctor, and I'm pretty sure we can remove that wart for you," she stated, pointing at the doorman's wart.

The doorman's eyes immediately widened, and he quickly covered the wart with his hands. "No one touches my wart!", he stated in an aggrieved manner, causing Lexie to be surprised at his response.

"But it's on your face," Lexie replied. Most people would have had such a wart removed before it grew so large. The doorman was definitely a peculiar case if he really wanted it untouched.

"That wart stays, and that's final!" the man exclaimed, his voice drawn out.

The volume of the man's shout was so loud that Lexie instinctively covered her ears and protested, "Alright! I won't say anything about your wart anymore!"

Without ceasing his shout, the doorman swiftly retreated behind the reception desk, slamming the door shut behind him, leaving Lexie even more surprised and baffled by the entire encounter.

"Can I still get the card key?" Lexie sheepishly asked, now alone in the lobby.

Just as Lexie was contemplating using the regular elevator again, the back door suddenly swung open, and a card key came flying out, smacking her in the face .

"Ouch," Lexie exclaimed as she picked up the fallen card from the floor.

"Thanks," Lexie added, still quite unsure about what had transpired. She wondered if the doorman had some mental health issues that contributed to his peculiar behavior.

" ♩ ♫You've got that power over me, my my!♪♫ ",

Meanwhile, Lucas' new song filled the Shay's residence, and Spencer couldn't resist its enchanting melody. Lost in the music, he embraced the broom in his arms and lip sync along with the song.

♩ ♫ "Everything I hold dear resides in those eyes" ♪♫

" ♩ ♫You've got that power over me, my my!♪♫ ",

"♩ ♫The only one I know, the only one on my mind♪♫"

Suddenly, the elevator doors gilded open, revealing a surprising sight for Lexie. There stood Spencer Shay, gently caressing the broomstick, his eyes locked in an intense gaze at the bristles of the broom.

" ♩ ♫You've got that power over me, my my!♪♫ ",

"♩ ♫It was all in doubt♩ ♫. ♪♫They were all around♪♫"

As Spencer spun the broom around, he suddenly caught sight of Lexie, causing him to let out a startled shout, "Ah!".

The unexpected interruption snapped him out of his emotional reverie, and he stood there, broom in hand, wide-eyed with surprise.

"Hi," Lexie stated shyly as she entered the apartment.

Spencer immediately muted the speakers and asked, "Who are you?"

"I'm Lexie Grey. Is Lucas here?" she asked with a polite smile on her face.

A few minutes later, Lucas' laughter resounded throughout the Shay apartment. Lexie had just been introduced to everyone in the room, and she shared the comical encounter she had upon entering the building. From Lewbert's grumpy attitude to Spencer's broom dancing, it all elicited uncontrollable laughter from Lucas.

"I'm sorry about that," Carly said to Lexie. "I should have warned Lucas about Lewbert. He can be a difficult person to deal with", she added.

"Yeah, everyone hates him in this building," Freddie chimed in.

"I'm sorry," Lucas apologized as he regained his composure. As someone who had watched iCarly in his past life, Lucas was familiar with the character of Lewbert and he couldn't help but laugh at the thought of Lexie's encounter with the eccentric doorman. "I should have personally come to get you. We were just so busy finishing up the audio recordings for iTunes that I didn't have much spare time."

"It's fine. It'll probably be one of those memories that will make me chuckle in the future," Lexie replied.

"Yeah, you should have let me know too. I could have been prepared," Spencer commented. If he knew that a beautiful woman was coming into the apartment, he would have prepared himself to act "cooler" but now that was out the window.

Hearing this Lexie just smiled, recalling Spencer's dancing to her brother's song.

"I see you like my dancing", Spencer said with a renewed hope. He wondered if he still might have a shot to date Lucas' sister.

Without giving Spencer any time to even find out, Lucas immediately cut him off. He dragged Lexie towards the elevator and said to the group, "Anyway, it's getting late. See you tomorrow at school guys", he said as he pressed the button headed towards the lobby. He briefly glanced at Spencer in amusement, fully aware of what he did.

"They seem like a fun group of people", Lexie commented as the elevator went down.

"Indeed, they are", Lucas replied.

A few minutes later, as Lexie settled into her car, she realized she hadn't eaten dinner yet and decided to swing by a drive-through for a quick meal. Lucas, although already having had dinner, couldn't resist the tempting offer of a burger and coke from Lexie and gladly accepted. The two siblings sat comfortably in the car, savoring their burgers while the radio played softly in the background.

"I have something to tell you," Lexie stated after taking a bite of her burger. Just as she spoke, the music on the radio abruptly switched to a breaking news segment. Determined to convey her message, Lexie promptly lowered the volume and turned her attention to Lucas, who appeared puzzled by her sudden action.

"I want to apologize," Lexie continued.

Surprised and unsure about the reason behind Lexie's apology, Lucas inquired, "Apologize? For what?"

"As your sister, I feel like I should be spending more time with you," Lexie explained, her expression reflecting confusion as Lucas burst into laughter.

"I thought it was something important," Lucas chuckled, readjusting himself in his seat. "You're a doctor, Lexie. It's only natural that you're busy. Besides, I don't need to be coddled or protected. Please don't be like Meredith. I already have one overbearing sister to deal with," he added, taking a bite of his burger.

"But..." Lexie began, wanting to provide further explanation.

However, Lucas interrupted her, holding up his hand. "Seriously, don't overthink it. We're good."
