Chapter 3

Levi walked down the dimly lit hallway made out of stone. A heart wrenching scream could be heard coming from one of the rooms in the hallway.

"Told you so newbie" mumbled Levi, before walking into a different room.

This room, unlike the one Rio was in, was lit up with torches. The torches were made out of a wooden handle with a crystal on top. The crystal seemed to naturally give off bright white light, although the intensity of light in each torch seemed different, along with the size of the crystals.

Levi walked towards the fluffy bed made out of duck feathers and stared at it, his expression blank and his thoughts unknown.

After an unknown amount of time, he let out a sigh, "yet another one". Saying that, he fell on the bed face down and drifted off to sleep. It was unknown how he fell asleep with his beak keeping his head up.

----------

Rios' eyes fluttered open as he woke up from his slumber. He stared off into the darkness that still enveloped the room. His gaze was then attracted by the slivers of light sneaking through the window shield of the room, indicating it was daytime.

Confused, Rio tried to remember where he was. He was then assaulted by the memories of the previous night, which now seemed almost like the starting plot of a tragic isekai novel. He was out adventuring, and then was forced down into a deep hole. Later he woke up as a creature he didn't even imagine before, allegedly a Wereduck, all to be told that he was apparently a duck before that and humans weren't a thing. All this sounded like a badly written webnovel setting, but it was his reality now, allegedly.

Looking back at it now, going out at almost nighttime, and alone at that in an uninhabited place wasn't the brightest idea he had. To be honest it was a STUPID idea and now he wondered what kind of crack he was in to do that, he didn't usually take any of that though.

All kinds of thought began to wreak havoc on Rio's mind. He didn't have anything else he could do in this darkness except thinking anyway. Also, what was that he heard outside? Remembering that indescribable sound from last night, Rio's entire body subconsciously shivered. That terrifying sound alone was enough to make him experience the worst pain he felt in his entire life!

Before he could think about it anymore, the door creaked open, finally letting light touch Rio's eyes after so long. Rio shut his eyes the moment the light touched them. His eyes then slowly adjusted themselves to the light.

He then saw the figure of that Wereduck standing outside the door.

"You're awake already? And what are you doing there?" Levi said in a mocking tone. He saw Rio laying near the window, coupled with the scream last night, he instantly knew what was going on.

"Ghhrh..." Rio groaned seeing Levi, who was holding a bowl of something in his hands. The bowl didn't look like something used to hold food though, it was quite a bit bigger than a bowl used to eat cereal.

"I brought you food. Eat it, and we'll talk then" Levi's voice sounded out, along with his beak moving up and down, making him look quite funny to Rio.

Rio still got up and took the bowl from Levi. In the bowl, there was a lot of uncooked rice, along with some dead insects here and there.

"Aaaa What is this?" asked Rio in panic. Was he supposed to eat this? insects and uncooked hard rice?

"food. It's what you used to eat before your evolution. I put some insects there too, for additional meat taste."

There's no way I'm gonna eat this...food? Though Rio, but when he looked at the figure standing near him, he reluctantly started to put his beak into the bowl and bite in some of the rice and "meat".

"...."

Rio chewed on his food faster and faster, then took another bite, then another. Before long, the bowl was empty and Rio's empty stomach was filled.

"That.....wasn't surprisingly half bad." Was it because of what he was now? He knew insects don't taste this good before, not from experience of course. Were his duck taste buds different from his taste from before?

"Yea it wouldn't be. You are used to eating this after all. Now follow me" saying that, Levi started to walk out of the room, and Rio had no choice but to follow behind.
