Jacob POV

Why can't I get a break moon goddess?  The moment I wake up I have work to do and all I wanted was five more minutes of sleep, but no at 1 in the morning I get news of a Rogue attack happening somewhere near my territory last night. The rogues needed to be hunted down before they could attack any of my people, so from 1 am to 10 am this morning I was out in the snow hunting wild dogs. Could this day get any worse?

"Alpha Jake" my beta john voice rings in my head through our mind link.

"There's human scent near where the rogues were first spotted along with some blood"

Fuck, the last thing we need is for rogues to be hunting humans, especially near my pack.

I go to the place where the scent of the rogue and human is the strongest and find John waiting for me in his wolf form ready for anything, we have been up all night so I know he is exhausted from having to fight rogues so early in the morning. I need to wrap this up so we can go home and sleep.

"What do you think happened here," I ask looking at the fragments of blood on the ground. " No idea, but whoever was hurt is ether dead from blood loss or hypothermia"

He's right if the rogues didn't kill them then this cold weather did, I sigh in realizing that whoever was killed had a family looking for them. "Welp, we might as well go look for the body," I say in an eager voice but John can see right through me, he knows I'm exhausted but also knows that this is my responsibility as alpha and reframe from saying anything else.

When I band down and inhale the scent of the human blood on the snow patched surface but the moment I inhaled the scent one thing comes flashing through my mind. Mate.
