Chapter Nine

While Andrew and Eve slept peacefully, a hunter had just arrived in Melas, at the town where they were. It was during quiet night like this that dark creatures usually lurk around. By that time, it was easier for them to blend in and prey on unsuspecting humans. Cautiously walking with her pistol,Rebecca was ready to greet those creatures with her bullets.

That was not the first time Rebecca was in Melas. It was a town suspected to be full of witches. Though no hunter had caught a with in that town or found any other other creature there, it always gave off an eerie vibe. That alone was enough reason for Rebecca to visit the town from time to time.

Rebecca walked cautiously along the dark streets of Melas, checking for any suspicious activity or creature. But, like always, there was no one outside. That was another thing that looked suspicious to her. Any normal town would have at least a bar open, drunkards on the streets wasted from drinking too much, or a house hosting a party or something. But, there was no one around. It seemed like everyone in the town was sleeping. The entire place was too quiet and eerie.

"Have you found her?" Rebecca suddenly heard a voice whisper. The voice was barely audible. If everywhere had not been so quiet, she would not have heard it.

Rebecca turned around looking for the source of that voice. But she could not trace it. It was like the voice was near but still not close.

"Yes, My lord. She is with the Queen Witch."

"Hmmm... that is a bit too obvious. I thought she would be smarter than that. Is she that confident the coven would protect her. Stupid girl! Bring me that assassin we talked about. I have an assignment for him."

Where was that damn voice coming from? Rebecca turned restless. To think that she had finally heard them. But, she could not find out the exact place the creatures were. Those damn creatures were getting smarter with their tricks! It irked Rebecca. Her hands itched to hit something. She would very much love to kill those filthy creatures with her bare hands.

Suddenly the area turned quiet again. Just when she had decided to leave, she heard someone laughing in her ear. She stabbed the air, at that spot she believed the voice came from. She had hoped to hit the creature.

There was one thing Rebecca was sure of. Those creatures could see her.

" Show yourself yourself you filthy thing!" She demanded as she kept stabbing the air at the spots she could hear the laughter from. But, it only amused the creature further as it kept laughing.

"Pathetic..." the creature whispered just right behind her, chuckling. Rebecca tried to stab it but only ended up stabbing air.

The creature kept laughing. It was playing with her and she knew it. It annoyed her to no end.

"You are a coward! Hiding behind that stupid trick of yours!" Rebecca yelled.

Immediately she said those words, she felt a hand bind both her hands to her back. "At least, I'm not weak like you." she heard his voice. This time, it was way too close to her neck.

Rebecca hoped it was not a vampire. But, it could not be a vampire. Those filthy creatures did not poses any power to turn invisible. That left her with a wide range of creatures. It could be a witch, a fairy, a demon, an elf, a siren or even a cursed one. The list was long. There were too many creatures that needed to be erased from the face of the earth. Starting from whatever creature that was with her now!

Rebecca struggled. Trying to break free from his hold on her. But, it was futile. The creature was strong.

"You know, I could easily kill you right now, hunter." He whispered seductively in her ears. Rebecca could feel the hair on her neck stand. For the first time that night, she realized another thing.

She could die at the hands of a creature she could not see.
