Chapter 14: Red River

Raziel was standing before Vice-Admiral Rowland the afternoon of the following day. They were about to reach Red River navy base. They experienced close to no disturbance on their way apart from a school of level 1 fishes that were too dumb to realise they were attacking a destroyer ship. Those unlucky fishes were blown to smithereens.

Vice-Admiral Rowland had just finished eating. He wiped his hands, "We won't be staying long in the base. I have to get to the capital and submit a report. By now, people in the capital should be aware of your existence. The only way for me to have any reason to keep you alive is by you carrying my orders. If I ask you to kill a level 3 superhuman, I don't care what level you're on. You must find a way to do it. It simply means your strength must increase fast enough. Is that understood?"

Raziel replied without any expression on his face, "Yes sir." Last night, he had made a resolution to do anything he can to survive and change his status quo. He can not and will not spend his entire life serving as a slave.

The naval base was in sight now. Vice-Admiral Rowland asked, "How old are you?"

Raziel was surprised he was asking a question he could have easily found out in the government database. He then guessed he was being tested by him. He replied, "I will be twenty one in May."

Vice-Admiral Rowland nodded his head, "Do you have any family?"

"I have a sister but I don't know where she is." Raziel said while hoping the Vice-Admiral isn't going to ask when last he saw her.

Vice-Admiral Rowland relaxed in his chair, "When last did you see her? Don't lie to me. In the report I have on you, it says you both left your house when it came crashing down."

Raziel tried not to appear nervous, "We got separated while we trying to escape. I have no idea where she is now." Technically he wasn't lying. They literally got separated when they were trying to escape. The only problem was it happened on Jack's boat right under the Vice-Admiral's nose.

The destroyer ship had docked. Vice-Admiral Rowland asked Raziel to carry his briefcase and follow him. They walked into the base with the other members of the crew. Vice-Admiral Rowland asked Commander Carol to give the naval officers a leave.

Raziel followed the Vice-Admiral to his apartment on the base. A lady that appeared to be in her early twenties was opening the door of the moment. She was dressed in a maid uniform and looked very stunning in her uniform. She was the prettiest woman he had ever seen.

Vice-Admiral Rowland nodded his head at her and turned his head to Raziel, "This is Betty. She is my maid." He turned his head back to Betty, "I'm sure you know who this is."

Betty gave the Vice-Admiral a pretty smile, "Welcome back Vice-Admiral and congratulations on being the first human to reach level 4 in Nicaorh."

A frown appeared on Vice-Admiral Rowland's face, "I might be the first in Nicaorh but I'm not the first human to reach level 4 in the world."

Betty and Raziel were shocked. They honestly didn't think someone had beaten him to the punch.

Betty showed Raziel to his room, "You can come and eat in the dining room after you've cleaned yourself up. The Vice-Admiral eats in his room so we have the rest of the house to ourselves."

Raziel thanked her.

"You're lucky you know. You're the only living superhuman of a main pathway in Nicaorh. You should be happy Vice-Admiral Rowland saved your life." Betty said as she closed the door.

Raziel didn't even seem to be listening to her. He just hopped onto bed and slept off.
