8: The Killing Begins, and The Casualties Are Heavy

Lily leaned closer to the fire, stretching out her little white hands to enjoy the warmth it provided.

This feeling is truly beautiful. Fire, a gift bestowed upon humanity by God. It is also an essential element for survival. Where there is fire, there is hope.

Rubbing her stomach, Lily felt a twinge of hunger. Simon next to her noticed and whispered softly, "You're hungry, I have food"

"Thank you"

Simon took out some food and handed it to Lily. Just as she was about to take her first bite, a series of low-pitched roars suddenly echoed from the pitch-black surroundings.

The sound was harsh and unsettling, sending shivers down the spine. It was like a group of famished wolves rejoicing as they encircled their prey.

"Something is approaching!"

The current team only had one evolved individual, the doctor, whose physical abilities had been enhanced. Although not as formidable as Alan, he was still stronger than an ordinary person.

The doctor caught a glimpse of a small green figure flashing past. Green beasts? A horrifying image from earlier in the day flashed through his mind.

"Everyone, be cautious! It's a green beast!"

Upon hearing the doctor's shout, panic ensued. The terrifying scene that had unfolded on the campus was likely to be repeated.

"The monsters are coming, run! If you don't run, you'll die!"

"Everyone, don't panic and don't run aimlessly, or you'll put yourselves in danger."

The director shouted loudly, frantically searching for Alan's figure. However, amidst the chaos, no one paid any attention to him.

Alan had also disappeared. Faced with a life-or-death crisis, the human instinct is to flee.

"Lily, hold me tight!"

Simon grabbed Lily, who was frightened, and desperately ran in a particular direction. He hoped that the green beasts would target other students and ignore him and Lily.

Unfortunately, Simon's attempt to outsmart them led him directly into a group of green-skinned beasts attracted by the fire.

Another group of green beasts appeared, increasing their total number to over fifty or sixty.

In that moment, everyone stood in disbelief, watching as the green-skinned beasts, brandishing their sticks, wore twisted smiles and steadily approached.

They resembled death gods reaping souls from hell. Fear, panic, trembling—negative emotions erupted instantly.

One green-skinned beast launched a sudden attack. Raising its wooden stick high, it swung it forcefully towards the nearest student's head.

'It's over!' The director felt a chill in his heart. But in the next moment, a flash of cold light pierced through the night sky like lightning, swiftly piercing the wooden stick and impaling the green-skinned beast's chest cavity.

"Hiss."

The grotesque face of the green-skinned beast contorted with an unimaginable expression. As it looked down, it saw a sharp scalpel embedded deep in its heart.

Plop. The green-skinned beast collapsed to the ground with a thud, its weakly gripped wooden stick falling beside it.

"Who made the shot?"

The director quickly turned his head to check and saw that it was the doctor who had made the kill. The doctor's right hand trembled, and his eyes filled with surprise and excitement.

"I did it, I killed a green beast!"

He was ecstatic, and then a burst of energy surged out from the green-skinned beast killed by the doctor and flowed into the doctor's body.

According to the laws of the Black Iron world, whenever a living being is killed, the killer has the right to claim everything from the deceased.

The director seemed to glimpse hope once again.

"Doctor, quickly!"

"No, Director!"

"What's wrong?"

"I don't have a knife."

The doctor wore a helpless expression. He only had one scalpel, which he had already thrown as a makeshift throwing knife.

Without the scalpel, he was just slightly better off than an ordinary person. Faced with over fifty green-skinned beasts, he would be pulverized in an instant.

"Hiss."

The death of their comrade instantly enraged all the green-skinned beasts. The fifty or so of them roared and charged towards the crowd, wielding their sticks. The killing began.

"No, Lily!"

Simon let out the most agonizing cry of his life. He tried to protect Lily, but it was in vain. He could only watch helplessly as she was slain by a green-skinned beast.

"Bastard, I'm going to kill you!"

Consumed by rage, Simon lost all reason and recklessly charged towards the green beast that had killed Xiaolan, using his bare hands. However, a wooden stick swung through the air.

With one strike, the his body was torn apart, no longer whole. On the wooden stick that had claimed Lily and her Simon, red blood dripped continuously, creating a chilling sight.

"Hiss."

The green-skinned beast extended its long tongue, its green eyes flickering with an uncontrollable desire to kill.

"Help, who will save us!"

"Alan, where is Alan?"

"Director, come on, Director!"

"I don't want to die, I've just started college."

Under the night sky, various screams shattered the silence of the Black Iron Forest. The students' cries only fueled the green-skinned beasts, who swung their sticks with even greater ferocity.

In just half a minute, over half of the students had been brutally slaughtered.

"Stop!"

A majestic voice resounded through the air. At this critical moment, Alan finally returned.

Gazing at the corpses scattered on the ground, blood flowing like a river, Alan's heart ached as if it had been stabbed with a knife.

"Bastards!"

Consumed by anger, Alan lost himself in the heat of the moment. He had only one thought in mind: to exterminate all the green beasts.

Unleashing the power of a three-star Black Iron warrior without reservation, Alan became like a humanoid tank armed with unlimited firepower, charging into the midst of the green-skinned beast horde.

With a single wave of his hand, several green-skinned beasts fell. With a kick, several more met their demise.

"Devour!"

"Devour!"

"Devour!"

In the end, Alan abandoned all attacks and focused solely on utilizing his Devour ability. The mighty force of devouring drew the green beasts toward him.

After a few seconds, all that remained of the dozens of green-skinned beasts were withered husks, drained of all energy by Alan's insatiable hunger.

His terrifying SSS talent was now fully unleashed, displaying a dominance that surpassed all.

The doctor retrieved his scalpel and said to Sofia, "Sofia, use your power quickly. Once you kill a green beast, you can absorb its energy!"

Sofia immediately summoned the Light Spirit. A radiant, palm-sized elf with wings appeared, holding a staff.

"Spirit of Light, attack!"

Upon Sofia's command, the light elf swiftly swung its staff, launching balls of holy light one after another, striking a wounded green-skinned beast.

Despite its small size, the light elf's holy light balls, each no larger than an egg, packed a tremendous amount of power. This was especially effective against creatures like the green-skinned beasts, who were naturally fearful of light. Each strike dealt double damage.

"Hiss..."

The green-skinned beast let out a shriek and lost its life force. As per the laws of nature, all of its energy flowed into Sofia's body.

"I can feel a force coursing through me, it's so strange," Sofia remarked with astonishment. A hint of envy flashed across Olivia's face. She, too, wished to become an evolutionary like Sofia.
