Ethereal Life, Chapter 55: Slimes Invasion Once Again!

Although Raelgar and Gahani who left did say to him that they could see in the dark back then near his territory.

That might not be the case for the others. The pond's miracle water might not reach its purifying ability outside the castle's foundation.

"That's why we need to start a fire every ten meters right now. Go!" With his order, everyone followed. The ten villagers, including Garut, immediately piled up chopped firewood and started a fire.

The wind blew by, bringing everyone a chill of impending danger. Nai wore a serious expression. He had already made sure Acacia didn't leave the house.

It's better for her to stay there than be by his side, where he knew a fight and chaos might break out. What if, by chance, someone backstabs him? Or take Acacia as a hostage?

Who knows if what happened today wasn't created by those from the Agah Village or maybe someone from the Creek Village? He can't trust anyone; that's why prevention is better than cure.

Leaving that aside, he stood side by side with Garut, whose focus was on the racks of spears being sent to his side.

Nai said, "Well, do it like we did on those rhinos. Although the fog might hinder our vision. It doesn't matter; we can just adapt after that."

Nodding, Garut asked, "It might not be the slimes. It might be another bizarre monster."

"Don't worry; all filth can't escape the purifying power of miracle water. As long as we injured it. No matter who it was, they would still die."

Indeed, that might be so. Expecting that all the bizarre monsters are of the same origin and could be countered by the miracle water. Nai thought.

Garut understood this too, but did not ask further. Speaking such things here, where the villagers are around, might cause panic instead. Looking at their eyes, they nodded to each other.

The villagers immediately hid under the protection of the walls when the fog was just kilometers away from them.

Soon, the sun set, and the grassland was blanketed by the dark fog. From afar, the Creek Village was already consumed by the dark fog.

However, when the fog neared them, It seems to be repelled by some kind of power, as it actively took a turn and surrounded them instead.

Together with the bonfire everywhere, the fog can't go near them at all. Nai took a deep breath, slowly, as he focused his mind. There's no way those slimes can climb his castle's foundation, right?

He turned around and was suddenly worried—should he let his wife stand beside him instead? No, that would be dangerous. But what if someone took the chance, be it a human or a monster, to kill his wife while he was away?

It's okay; he left something there just in case. In the event of any unusual happenings around the house, Acacia would immediately ring the thing he left behind.

As for bringing the villagers inside the castle foundation, No way! No matter what, his castle is a restricted area for them.

His miracle water, the pond, was there. Only Acacia knows of it. He can't let the news spread and turn the whole thing into an uncontrolled state.

"Brace yourselves." Nai softly whispered. But strangely enough, everyone can clearly hear him. The surroundings were so quiet that the sounds of others feet stepping on land rang in the fog around them.

"They're here." Garut slowly raised his spear as he made a throwing stance. Strength slowly gathered from his feet to his legs and spine before his arms muscles bulged in contrast to his other old bags of skin and bones.

The men below were nervous; however, their eyes showed no signs of backing off. They would rather fight until they could take down one to bring glory to their name.

It's in every man's blood to be chivalrous. Battle and fighting between life and death were an excitement engraved in their very genes. That is, to find victory, bask in fame, and be worship under the gaze of everyone.

The moment where one can enjoy how important his existence is for the world to see.

Step.

Step.

Step.

"Such a familiar noise. What kind of slippers or shoeware do they wear to produce such noise in this grassland?" Nai asked the others, or perhaps himself.

No one knows the answer. However, the way he talked made them relax their taut nerves a bit. Since the ruler is relaxed, what do they need to worry about.

 Bang!

A big, bloody rhino flew out and landed in front of them. The rhino was still alive, but its injuries seem to have worsened. Nai frowns in irritation.

"Now we have one less rhino to tame. This slime—is this their present before attacking us? Although I knew it all along. Still, what a weird kink they had. But it's not a present at all! It's mine to begin with! Damn it!" Anger surged in his heart.

Without waiting for them to come out of the fog. Nai redirected his spear in the direction where the rhino came from.

His senses told him the monsters in their midst hadn't left their spots yet. Since it came to this, he might as well take the initiative!

THROW!

Ripppppppp!

Another air-ripping sound rang out where the spear flew. All the villagers saw was the tail of its shadow before it plunged deeply into the dark fog.

Let me hear you scream!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh—

Such a horror-piercing scream from afar—if they still can't understand what had just happened, then they're better off dead than be protected.

Hearing that scream that seems to directly pierce through his mind Garut looked at Nai with surprise. "How did you do it?" He asked. He heard this screams from Raelgar and Gahani's experience back then.

Nai pointed at his heart and mind and said, "Trust your heart."

Garut nodded. He suddenly realized something after this. Why does he not realize this danger early on? Although he seldom has a dream, he can at least remember seeing this a few months or days earlier.

But, "Why did I not see this future? Is it because there's no danger at all?" He might have guessed it right. Or perhaps there's something that jammed his senses and made him unable to see the future instead.

But how is that possible? He had been using his ability for almost a century. Why did it only occur now? "Impossible."

However, no matter what he must focus more on the battle in front of him. He can always find the answer after that.

"It's out! They have come out!" Bang!

A spear thrown left only its shadows before piercing through the chubby-looking, creepy-faced human-skinned slime.

Bang!

It suddenly exploded into countless pieces of black material. However, it might be its way to escape. Unfortunately, all parts of its body still can't escape its destiny. It burst into a puff of black dust before flying with the breeze like smoke.

Already two are dead.

Everyone looked at Garut in admiration. The grandson was gritting his teeth in excitement. He also wanted to become like his grandpa.

Accepter; he also wants to be one. Only at this time of crisis would the power of an accepter be deemed a hero and their protector.

In a peaceful time, such strength will only bring chaos, greed, and tyranny."Nice throw." Nai praised.

Garut shook his head away. "How can my little throw compare to yours? Don't mock me; I know I'm lacking.".

Realizing that they might have met serious prey this time. The slimes wearing human skin who knew where they got it from walked out of the dark fog.

"Say, do you think they're from Agah Village?" Nai asked.

Garut shook his head and said, "No, I know no one from them. How about you below?"

The villagers shook their heads.

"See?"

"Then that can only mean one thing." Nai narrowed his eyes as he threw the spear with power. "It's from another village."

Garut's eyes shone with gleaming light; he had just realized that. However, such realization also comes with heavy feelings. "Poor them."

Nai agreed, saying, "They are indeed pitiful people. That's why we need to free them and take the lives of their killers."

"I have never been a battle-craze person. However, this is the first time I really wanted to wipe the hell out of this bizarre monster's existence."

Garut's calm voice rang in the air. His spear flew strangely on a frog walking on human skin slime.

Pfft~

A black substance flew out in the air as the slimes turned into puffs of smoke and disappeared with the wind.

"Hehe, now that we've found out your weakness, Why do we need to fear you and cause us to migrate every time?"

The former village chief walked forward and spun one time before throwing the axe in the air.

A thin-looking human skin slime dodged to the side as it looked at him, seemingly mocking him.

Thud.

The villagers were speechless; their fear in their hearts seemed to have completely disappeared unknowingly.

Former Village Chief! Please behave yourself! Your so far away from the target, of course your throw won't be able to outsmart them!
