He relished in the fact that he could help, yet he also suffers every time ill news that concerned his citizens' well being. King Carba took it upon himself to take care of every citizen that was within his reach, even if it was only for self-gratification.

When he heard of Ligma Boel, Overseer of the Velvet Castle's true nature, he felt his stomach churn as if he ate spoiled meals for six days straight. Why couldn't I tell, he thought, deeply anguished by the fact that he's been meeting her in the castle in numerous events.
