Dragon Ball Z: The Core

What if Gohan had a twin sister with the soul and memories of someone who had watched the Dragon Ball Z TV show? That's Hanna, and her goal is to protect Earth. MC is going to attempt to manipulate the canon. This means that even after she gets powerful, she'll be hiding her powers. (This is just a pet project of mine. Don't expect updates to be too regular, and while I have a general idea of where I want the plot to go, I haven't set a plan in stone for it. While the plot will follow the same arcs as the TV show, not all of the movies will be incorporated. By the way, this is MY INTERPRETATION of the canon, so not all information in the story will be completely correct when compared to the official canon.)

Ch. 192: The Captains of Legacy

"Alright, remember to think on your futures, as your homework! You're quickly coming to the end of your early training, and pretty soon you'll have to choose your job, here at Legacy! Remember, it's between the construction department, the research department, office work, or the missions department. You'll have to choose one before you become a full Legacy, alright?" Pigero called after his students as they left the courtyard where he'd been training them as part of his Captain's duties.

It'd been three and a half years since the events on Namek, after which Legacy had been founded. A little less than two years since Goku had returned to Earth, and Pigero had helped countless people learn the fundamentals of ki control the same way that he had, before sending them to work for the other departments of Legacy.

Some joined the Construction department of Legacy, which was currently working with the research department to put the finishing touches of Hanna's special World Martial Arts tournament arena that would supposedly be able to hold up against a rampaging Super Saiyan, while others joined the Research department to figure out how ki interacted with modern technology.

Finally, the last two departments were the Missions department, which was the original department that dealt with disasters around the globe, though they'd been branching out lately with the new elite members capable of leading squads of low-class legacies to deal with more missions, and the Office department, which was the name given to those who preferred to 'keep house' rather than fight or the like.

No matter what they went into, everyone associated with Legacy needed to be screened and approved by Hanna, Chelsea, or one of the Core Girls under them, and then recruited and taught the basics of ki control by a Captain from the Missions department. Luckily, with the addition of Videl as the newest Captain, and a strict limit of 30 or so students at once, that still left each Captain with more than enough time to work on their own training and new techniques using Legacy's vast resources.

Each Captain approached their free time differently. Being linked to Legacy officially made them different from the Pseudo-Captains, who were simply given approval to use Legacy's systems as a part of their training. Krillin took his teaching duties seriously while in front of a class, but mainly focused on his own improvement beyond that. Tien and Chiaotzu were the same way.

Nappa barely if ever went out on a mission by himself. Were you to ask him, he'd say that he'd given up fighting, and only kept at it to teach the new talent in a better way, but Pigero knew that he'd been steadily getting stronger over the last two years anyways. The Namekians took a similar approach to Nappa, but not to the same degree as him, and lastly, Videl, being only newly minted as a Captain, didn't teach many classes, and spent a lot of her time training by herself. While her growth had plateaued lately, she had still gotten strong enough to put up a good fight against almost any of the other Captains.

Meanwhile, Hanna's schedule was so full that she only managed to find time to teach classes once or twice per month. The rest of the time, she was either dealing with all of her duties as the head of Legacy, or training with Goku, Gohan, Piccolo, and Raditz, in preparation for the androids that were slated to show up in the next year or so. Recently, Pigero had heard that she was trying to learn Instant Transmission in order to make it easier for her to deal with all of the things on her plate, but ironically, all the spirit control training had done for her so far was add even more to her schedule.

And then lastly, there was Pigero. His schedule was similar to the Namekians' insofar as he did his best to keep a good balance between helping himself and helping others, but lately he'd found himself spending more and more time either by himself or with Tien, who had originally asked him for some help creating a new technique about a year ago and had somehow become something of a confidante over time.

In fact, Pigero had some plans to take on a mission with Tien after his classes today.

Leaving the courtyard, Pigero entered the main building of Legacy and immediately found Tien. He was alone, staring up a gigantic screen in the middle of the room, which was currently showing a map covered in dots of different colors. Each dot was something that the sensors had caught, a potential mission that the Legacies could take. A black dot meant 'Extremely Dangerous' As they looked, one of those showed up for a moment before being immediately taken off the board, likely remotely, by Vegeta. Red dots meant 'Fire' Brown meant 'Earthquake'  Blue meant 'Flood,' and there were a half dozen other colors denoting other types of missions.

"No Chiaotzu today?" Pigero asked Tien, looking at the board.

"No, he's not feeling the best. He overexerted his Grey Mode in training last night, so I told him to just stay in bed today, just to be safe." Tien answered, "What mission do you want to take today? Another flood?"

Every Legacy was known by the world at large by their codename. There was even a fan site that someone had made denoting all the available information on each Legacy. While Tien was known as Triton, the all-rounder with Aegis, Chiaotzu's codename, as his 'sidekick,' Pigero was known as Gabriel, lover of children and stopper of floods. He tended to prioritize jobs involving floods due to his background, but today, he felt like doing something different.

"Nah, see that white mission? Let's take that one." He pointed out on the map. White dots were areas where the sensor had gone haywire for some reason. Sometimes, it was nothing, while other times it was glitching out, accidentally registering a Captain's power level. Either way, once a sensor began to glitch, the area around it needed to be checked out and the sensor needed to be replaced, so it sent out a white mission. Today, deep in the forests fairly close by, one of the sensors had sent out a white mission, and that was the one that Pigero felt like taking today. Something was just calling him to it.
