Chapter 9: Drunken Love

A few hours later, there was another knock, but this time it was not the glass door, but my real one, to the corridors of the palace. I opened the door sleepily. Yes?" I murmured in the crack of the door. It's me," a woman's voice whispered softly. I opened the door a little more. It was my sister, my rather drunk sister. I took her by the hand and quickly pulled her inside. She giggled: "I knew my little sister Di was still awake." Her words sounded a little consumed. "Why aren't you at the party, it's still going on after all," I asked her after. The party would go on until 4 or 5, at least that's what the invitation said. I had only left them early because of the escapade and I really wanted to leave. Mother and father could understand my reasons, but they allowed me to go, albeit reluctantly. "I was bored without you," she pinched my cheek and then fell head over heels into my bed, "So comfortable, why don't I have a bed like that?" Heavens, surely she wouldn't fall asleep like that now. You have the same nice bed just one room away, don't you want to sleep there instead?" I asked her a little louder. She looked at me with a grin, then laughed: "Have you been snogging with that guy?" I swallowed for a moment and grabbed my neck, then ran to the mirror, recognising faint smooch marks. Damn. "It's not that bad, I had more than dancing and talking with my first prom date too," she giggled again, then turned her back to lie on my bed. "What no, I didn't with Alex...!", I began to protest. I almost wanted to say that I hadn't with him, but with someone else, but I couldn't, it would raise questions, questions I didn't want to answer. What?" she shrieked in disbelief, "you're already on a first-name basis, that was quick, but don't worry, I won't tell mother or father, and I won't tell them that there was more. If you want, I can show you how to take off your make-up..., oops I meant how to cover it." She giggled even more. I slowly rolled my eyes: "Ok I think I get it, it's super funny." She only giggled more from that, it made me giggle too. I threw myself on the bed next to her and took her hand, both of us staring at the ceiling, our hair connected, both of it open. Bleuciel must be wondering where you are, he must be worried by now," I guessed. Her answer came late, "No, why should he, I told him I was going to your place, I'm not that stupid any more," she replied. She must have been thinking about her first ball date, she had just left Bleuciel there without saying anything, the poor thing had searched the whole palace for her. The following morning, Faina had to make amends. She had bought him a horse at the vintage auction in Yorkshire, it was so rare, and as Bleuciel is a horse fanatic, just like my sister, he got it. He had of course long since forgiven her, but was still delighted with the horse, I think it's in his stable in France today. "You know, Di, I love you with all my heart," she murmured sleepily. I squeezed her hand and intertwined my fingers with hers. "I love you too, Fi."
