Chapter 36: Scouting out

It didn't take long before Murong Yue and Chief Zhao Kuang came out of the office.

If one looked carefully, they would be able to see the red mark on Chief Zhao Kuang's neck from where Murong Yue had stabbed that pencil at.

When they came out, Lin Fan was still reading over the file that he had received.

After what had happened before, Lin Fan was someone who was much more cautious now and wanted to know as much information as possible before going into anything. But that was where his increased intelligence came in since it made it much easier for him to memorize all this information.

Once he saw the chief and Murong Yue come out, Lin Fan stood up to come meet them.

Chief Zhao Kuang saw Lin Fan come over and said, "Before you head off, I want to tell you something. Since you are a special contractor, we need to have someone watching over you and that's why Murong was chosen."

Lin Fan looked over at Murong Yue who looked just like normal, completely different from how she had been in Chief Zhao Kuang's office before asking, "So how does that work?"

Chief Zhao Kuang casually explained, "Think of it as her being your partner. After all, we don't know much about you and Murong is the only one who does know you, so we want to at least make sure that you don't do anything too crazy."

Lin Fan had to admit that this was right, but he still couldn't help thinking of something strange.

If they didn't know anything about him, why would they offer him this job then?

It was clear that there was something behind this and it seemed like the chief knew much more than he put on, but Lin Fan was fine with slowly exposing everything. Right now, he still didn't have enough chips at his disposal and having the protection of the police was definitely worth taking this risk.

Chief Zhao Kuang didn't keep them there any longer and he just sent them off.

But before they left, Chief Zhao Kuang also moved in and said to Lin Fan, "That girl, she's not to be trusted."

Lin Fan was confused as he asked, "Which girl?"

Chief Zhao Kuang said, "The one that looks too innocent."

There was only one girl who fit that description in Lin Fan's mind and he immediately asked, "Who is she?"

Chief Zhao Kuang didn't say anything in response to this and he just shook his head with a finger to his lips, as if he was telling Lin Fan to be silent.

Could it be that she even controlled the police like she controlled the two gangs?

But there was another question that Lin Fan wanted an answer to, just who was Chief Zhao Kuang that he knew all of this?

Still, that wasn't what he needed to worry about now.

If he wanted this information, the first thing he had to do was take care of this case for Chief Zhao Kuang to earn his trust first.

So Lin Fan headed out with Murong Yue for the loan shark den that was inside this file.

But what they didn't know was that after they left, Chief Zhao Kuang sat at his desk tapping his finger on the table as he muttered to himself, "This is the third one I've found and he seems to be coming along nicely. It's a good thing I found him early enough that I could make an impression, but now it will all depend on how he will develop…"

After another pause, Chief Zhao Kuang gave a sigh and said, "I hope he doesn't disappoint me."

Lin Fan and Murong Yue didn't really talk after coming out of the police station because both of them had different things that they were thinking about.

Lin Fan was thinking about the various facts surrounding this case while Murong Yue was thinking about how to protect Lin Fan from Chief Zhao Kuang since she knew what kind of unit he ran. The missions that Lin Fan were being sent on were clearly more dangerous than normal missions.

While they were both lost in thought, it felt like it took no time for them to arrive at their location.

This was a large office building, but this was a building that was being rented as many different office spaces. The one office that they were looking for was an office that was at the very top of the building, one that had taken an entire floor.

This was the office of a notorious loan shark, but when they came out of the elevator, the plaque that was placed in front of the office made it look like a very professional office. It didn't seem like a shady loan shark office at all.

In fact, the plaque in front of the door read "Future Financial Management", which made it sound like it was a place where they helped you balance your finances instead of ruining them forever.

When Lin Fan and Murong Yue came through the front door of the office together, they were surprised to see the nice furniture inside and the beautiful receptionist sitting in the front.

The receptionist immediately looked up at them when they came in and said, "Welcome, do you have an appointment?"

Every part of this office could be described with the word professionalism that it completely shattered the mental image that Lin Fan had of loan sharks.

It took Lin Fan a bit of time to recover, but then he said, "Hi, my wife and I are here for a consultation, but we don't have an appointment. We were recommended to this place by a friend, so we decided to come have a look."

This was the result of Lin Fan's training from the last mission with Yan Luo, he was now much better at lying. Of course, it wasn't just all that training, it also was partly because of his increase in intelligence that allowed him to be much calmer compared to before.

The receptionist was a bit surprised when she heard that they were recommended by a friend, but she also quickly hid it. It was too bad that Lin Fan's eyes were also much sharper compared to before, so he had been able to spot this.

Recommended by a friend, that was the test that he put in his words to see if this place really was what he thought it was.

After all, a friend would never recommend a friend to a loan shark den. That is unless that other friend was in debt and needed to lure more people in for the loan shark…

But this receptionist was very professional as she showed them the way into the office.

This was a very standard office, but the decorations in the office were all very luxurious. Just with a single look, one could tell that the price to decorate this office wasn't cheap.

However, what surprised Lin Fan wasn't that.

Sitting in the office was a beautiful woman with jet black hair running straight down and with a perfect figure, with curves in all the right places.

But the shock that came after the surprise wasn't brought on because of her appearance, it was brought on because of the prompt that the system suddenly gave him.

"You have encountered an E Rank target, will you accept this quest?"

He had thought that this would be a simple case since it was a loan shark, so he imagined some gangsters and that was it, but that wasn't the case at all.

Instead it was this beautiful woman who was the furthest thing away from a loan shark.

Lin Fan didn't know why someone like this would work at a place like this, but she did.

But still, after sitting down, Lin Fan put aside his daze and continued with the story he had worked out with Murong Yue.

The beautiful woman asked, "Hello, what brings you in today?"

Lin Fan gave a sigh at first before saying, "We really don't want to be coming to a place like this, but recently, my wife and I have racked up quite a bit of debt and a friend of ours told us that this was a place that could help us reorganize our finances."

The beautiful woman had a calm look on her face, but there was a clear sparkle in her eyes that appeared when she heard this.

She immediately revealed a smile and then said, "You've come to the right place. Our firm has helped thousands and thousands of people just like you. Your friend really is a smart person, can you tell me what their name is?"

Lin Fan just casually said the name of one of the victims he had read about in the file and the moment the beautiful woman heard this, her smile became even wider because that was one of the people she had previously scammed.

She had even told that person to bring in more people to reduce their debt and it seemed like they had taken this message to heart.

Seeing two fresh suckers in front of her, naturally she wouldn't turn them away.

The beautiful woman said with a bright smile, "Yes, yes, Mr Wan was one of our previous customers and I'm sure you've seen how well he's turned out. We can naturally help you with the same problem."

Lin Fan gave a cold laugh on the inside when he heard this.

He might have been fooled if he didn't know any better, but it was too bad he did know.
