Escape

(this is from the pov of the main character of the last scene of ch.1)

I quickly get onto my bed and go into what I thought was my position before I woke up. This was after all a gamble. I can't afford to do anything to peak his suspicion otherwise it will all be for naught. Creak! I hear the sound of a door opening.

'I heard a voice say something before I got on the bed. I couldn't quite hear what he said. Something about keys?'

'Deep breath in, Deep breath out' I thought while trying to keep my breathing as stable.

The voice got angrier and spoke, "Dose none here know what hygiene is?"

' That implies that there is more than one person in this building...Right? If so.. How many?' I say as I feel my heart beat intensely

After a while, maybe minutes, maybe seconds, I was too nervous to tell. The arrogant-sounding voice spoke again " Nothing yet huh."

'Greate!" I excitedly think.

' He suspects nothing. Now please leave the room quickly. I think he won't be there for much longer.' I think as I cross my fingers in my head. I start hearing footsteps getting away from me and I think with some built-up excitement' Almost there!'

Almost was the key word here.

but then before I could hear the door closing, the voice spoke words that made that built-up excitement turn to anxiety "Am I crazy, or did you move from where I left you before?"

'Does he know I am awake?' now my heart starts beating faster. I try to calm myself down and think.

'Relax, just act like you would if you were asleep for all he knows this is just as yesterday and I am showing no response of being conscious.'

I hear footsteps each getting closer to me.' Don't Move, don't move!' My heart was beating like crazy. Then I feel something very close to my face... Like I could feel the air he breathed out of his nose.

I don't know how long he stayed staring at me. It felt like hours and finally, I hear him say something.

"Tch" I hear the strange man click his tongue.

Then a wave of relief overcame my body, I almost felt the need to sigh.

I hear those same footsteps again, but this time they were getting quieter as they moved away from me. I thought the man was leaving. I hear him speak one last time.

"Wake up soon my little boy, a world full of surprises awaits you." I get cold shivers all over my body.

'What does this imply? Does this mean that I was meant to be kept alive? Well, I know for a fact I am never finding out what this "world full of surprises" is because I am getting the hell out of here once I get the opportunity I thought as I hear the sound of a metal ratcheting.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, I hear the creaking noise of a door closing.

Then I waited for a couple of minutes to make sure the man would be long gone.

Now I get up from my bed and start searching for ways to get out of here as quick as possible.

I start looking around the room again. This time with the intent of coming up with a full-proof plan to get out of the building.

'Based on what I heard there seems to be more than one person in this building, which complicates things

'I need to get out without anyone noticing. That means I need to get out soon before someone comes and checks this room again'

As I was looking around the room, suddenly I get fixated on a spot above the metal table with medical equipment.

On the roof of the room right above the metal table was an air vent!

'Ok, now I have the means to escape. The question is when should I do it?'

Then I get up from my bed once again and approach the door.

I start looking around in the hallway outside this room and conclude some things.

'This hallway is long, and there doesn't seem to be any other rooms except mine through the hallway'

'I also noticed that the hallway seems to continue as it curves to the left, where the hallway presumably continues'

And so with much thought and preparation, I come up with a plan.

The plan was simple. Since I had no indication of time in this room I had to start my plan right away since I had no idea when they were going to check on me again.

Before doing anything I take a quick glance back at the dead woman.

'I miss you Evangeline' I get reminded of the tattoo written on her arm.

'Alight time to get out of this hell hole.' I think as I take my view of the woman and onto the vent window.

I proceed to climb onto the metal table and reach up to the vent.

Plam! the sound of the air vent window being pulled apart reverberated through the room.

'That was surprisingly easy' I think as I effortlessly rip the steel bolts of the vent window from their sockets.

Afterward I look around to make sure none is there, then I pull myself into the air vent.

A loud "thud" could be heard across the vent system.

'Ok, now I have to figure out where the exit is.'

Looking straight ahead I see the vent turn left after a long straight path.

'I might just start crawling and see where the vent system ends'

'Careful don't make too much noise.' I think to myself as I slowly start crawling

Eventually, after what seemed like an eternity of crawling I look down and see another air vent that was pointing to a room

I inch a little closer and take a peek.

This time the room that I was looking at, didn't seem like a hell hole like the last one. On the contrary, It looked peaceful.

There were windows all around this room. the room had a counter full of snacks and drinks and also had desks and chairs for people to sit in. The room had a wooden floor and the same gray brick walls as the last room, only this time the grey wall gave the room a more pleasing atmosphere to the room.

Paying a little closer attention I noticed two people talking.

"Man what a hot day it is today. Don't you think Manuel?"

"Yeah, I cant believe Boss made us ..."

I stop paying attention to their conversation and decide to move on, as I don't have a lot of time before someone notices I am missing.

Some time passed.

I don't know how long I crawled, but eventually, I feel a suction coming from above followed by a faint humming sound.

looking above I see a fan that was sucking the air out of the vent, circling new air with old air

'That's my exit!' I excitedly thought.

'Only one problem'

'How am I supposed to stop the fan?'

Then I get a brilliant Idea.

I then look at my clothe and take my shirt off. With a little hesitation as to how successful I might be, I throw the shirt to the fan.

I see the fan slow down. Eventually, it slowed down enough that smoke and sparks started appearing.

After a while, I see the fan stops moving completely.

'Now time to get out of here

I reach out and grab onto a blade of the fan and pull myself up.

I take a deep breath, as fresh air surrounds my nostrils.

"Now this is a change of scenery" I finally spoke.

when I climbed out of the ven I was greeted with a flat rooftop looking down you could see a forest surrounding all sides of the building.

'So If I just take a run for the forest they won't be able to track me.....Right?' I think as I inch closer to the edge of the roof.

Looking down the ground seemed to be about 3 meters (3.2 yards) the ground

'it's not that far from the ground'

'I think I will be able to jump down without breaking my legs'

That was the plan. Just jump and run. Hopefully, I won't break my legs and escape into the forest.

As I take a deep breath I think to myself.

'I got this. It's just a little jump. After this, is freedom .'

'Whatever is in that forest is better than anything to do with this building.'

I back out a little and take a running start, then I jump.

in that instant, I turn my body so my legs brace most of the force of the impact.

'Here goes nothing I think as I see the ground getting closer and closer.

THUD!!!

I tumble and roll onto the grass.

Quickly and a little stunned that it was easier than expected, I get up and start running

"I AM OUT!" I yell with excitement.
