Curse of Immortality

A being of unknown origins comes to life as a dragon, but was corrupted while developing in the egg and mutated to have the properties of a vampire alongside it. Starting out fragile, he has to struggle to survive for the first many years of his life. He grows continuously, leaving behind many memories as he becomes invincible. This is the story of the character that appears in any of my other books at random, a being who travels between dimensions and can defeat gods. Join him on his powerful and interesting journey, a compilation of short stories into a novel of his life. ------ This is a comedic and fantasy based story with a lot of dark moments while trying to fit in and survive. This is the first contest I've ever entered so bear with me and I hope you enjoy the story! (This is a slow build story that is meant to get better as it goes and draw the reader on better adventures. [The Beginning] pt. 1

<Year 0>

A rift in space and time tear through the fabric of reality as energy coalesced together, forming a unique existence within the void. As this was taking place, a world was created surrounding it, encasing the strange being in the center as life took form on the surface. Eventually, when it finished coming together, the wisp of life drifted from the center of the planet to the surface, floating aimlessly. Searching for a body, it sped off the moment a creature was born without a soul, slipping through the eggshell and entering the fragile developing body. The parent of the creature was surprised when the black color of death disappeared from the shell and it turned gray. Bonding with it slowly, it entered dormancy, almost a year passing before it felt the heat of the parent guiding it to hatch. Fully fused, the body had become its own and it had finally gained consciousness. Reacting to the heat, it started pushing against the shell, hitting it harder as time passed. It began to crack and when it finally broke open, it slid out covered in viscous, coughing and snorting to try to find air past the colorless fluid. It didn't take long for the parent to move forward to lick the hatchling's face clean, allowing them to gulp in air for the first time.

The parent rumbled something soothingly as the infant twisted around curiously, not quite able to get a grip on the liquid around it. Opening its eyes for the first time, blinking its blue eyes slowly at the surroundings, enhanced intelligence a hatchling shouldn't possess processing everything. A few other eggs were inside what looked like a nest, all of them hatching while a large creature hulked over them, watching intently. The other babies were all different shades of gray, but the one had pure white scales. It looked around with intelligence but lack of knowledge, unconsciously noting the black mist drifting around in the air and the darkened sky. Even so, it didn't actually know the names of any of these and was limited. The parent, of whom was the mother, craned her neck and brought her snout down, nuzzling all of them. She was a bit lost on the unusual white of the one but thought of it as a side affect of almost dying within the egg. Gauging them, she counted three boys and two girls, rumbling contentedly as they all made chirping sounds. The white one watched her drop meat into the nest curiously and didn't dive immediately, but soon joined its siblings in the meal.

That one was starting to get more and more out of the ordinary, but she was proud that one of her children seemed so smart. When they finished eating, all their eyes became heavy and kept drooping, each one falling asleep. The mother crooned and wrapped herself around the nest, letting them sleep and wishing her partner was still alive. As the eggs had developed, they all were too dark and the one had turned silver with a red tint, which worried her constantly, but now they were all alive, having freed themselves from the eggshells and entered the world. She knew this place wasn't the safest for eggs, but it was the only spot she found in which she had managed to hide for so long. Looking at them, she began to consider names, flicking her tail and rustling her wings thoughtfully. In a gentle voice, she turned to the two girls and said, "You are Iressa, and you are Nylotte." She had named the lightest colored and smallest of the two first, finding her so tiny. Tilted her head at the boys, she spoke to the one closest to black, "You are Qlome, having the same shade as your father, you will have his name." Considering the other two, she nuzzled them and said, "You are Jarkko, and you…" Her purple eyes rested on the white one for a moment, her mind a bit lost on him. "Zyrtec. You remind me of the tales of the beginning."

Satisfied with the names, she huffed and set her head down, welcoming sleep. Zyrtec, who had finally gained a name, glowed slightly, his scales giving off a kind and gentle warmth as his eyes flashed to red under his eyelids. The others had a similar reaction, gaining power as a 'named' but not to the extent of the white one. Power radiated off his scales for the following few hours, slowly dying down, leaving behind great strength and an unknown destiny.
