Crystal Cores

Lilian Mo wasn't blind. She immediately got the gist of the situation.

There was a self-righteous and greedy man.

A cold but vigilant older sister.

A helpless and dependent younger sister.

Then there's the strange child with unknown origins who was using a crystal core to ask the group for help.

Lilian Mo was about to head back to explain the situation to her team when she noticed that they had gone out to check it out themselves.

"Momo, what's wrong with them? You suddenly ran off so everyone got worried." Mu Qingqing said as she clung to Lilian Mo's arm.

"The situation is like this.." Lilian Mo briefly explained what happened to them. Their eyes lit up with understanding.

Lilian Mo's eyes flashed with schadenfreude.

This kind of occurrence was very common in her previous life. Many shameless people would do anything to obtain crystal cores. Theft, murder, arson, bribery, and a lot of unspoken things truly depicted the extent of humanity's dark nature.

There were also a lot of setups like this. People luring other people using crystal cores just to steal from them.

It was also not uncommon to use children to lure groups. It was a cruel method but in the last days, even children aren't spared.

As she looked in the direction of the child, Lilian Mo instinctively felt that there was something familiar and odd with the child wearing a hood.

The child's build was really small and from the child's height, she could only guess that the child was around eight or nine years old, maybe even seven due to their bony figure.

"Sister-in-law, what are crystal cores?" Fu Yangzhu asked as this was the first time he's heard about it.

Lilian Mo stilled as she looked at Fu Yangzhu with surprise.

She gazed at Mu Qianmo who also did not seem like he knows what a crystal core is. Then her eyes landed on Lu Jingren who was staring at the sky as if he wasn't a part of the group. This sight made her snort.

She was confused why the group of guys still did not know what a crystal core was but she still patiently explained it to them. "This can be obtained from Level one mutants and above. The higher the level of the mutant, the more energy the crystal core contains because it has purer energy inside. This also helps ability users to upgrade. Once you reach Level three, you would need to absorb a crystal core in order to reach the next level. You will end up getting stuck in Level three unless you absorb a crystal core's energy."

Lilian Mo explained as best as she could in the simplest terms. She was still surprised that the boys did not know what a crystal core was and had relied only on combat to survive. She was very amazed.

And perturbed.

Was this really the group of people that had founded Z-base in her previous life? It was already three months into the apocalypse and they still did not know what a crystal core is! She also had to explain what a resin was...

Lilian Mo was filled with apprehension so she showed them what a crystal core looked like.

They were entranced when they saw a small spherical object resembling that of a jewel. It was like a mini crystal ball but shinier and more dazzling in appearance. It looked like the real deal at first glance.

They could feel a small amount of energy from inside which could be sensed better than absorbing elements in the air.

"Momo, it's beautiful." Mu Qingqing's eyes sparkled. She liked pretty and shiny things. Even in the last days, she still can't get rid of her desire to look at something beautiful like this which closely resembled a gem.

Lilian Mo saw this and handed the Level one crystal core to the girl. "Here. You can have it."

"AH! Momo, you're the best!" Mu Qingqing said excitedly, giving the taller girl a tight hug before snatching the crystal core. She gazed at it with awe and 'ooh'ed and 'aahh'ed a couple of times.

On the other hand, Lilian Mo was rubbing her waist. It seemed that the little girl upgraded to Level three. The talks about strength ability users having the fastest leveling speed were really not a joke.

It has only been three months or so in the apocalypse and Mu Qingqing was already at Level Three. This may be due to the effects of the spring water or it could simply be the effect of the resin's energy that boosted the girl's potential.

Or...

It could only be because this girl was a natural.

Either way, Lilian Mo was relieved. Atleast, Mu Qingqing would have ways to defend herself from people since most would probably still be at Level two or one.

"Sister-in-law, I also want a crystal core!" Fu Yangzhu shamelessly asked while outstretching both his hands.

Mizuki Rei looked at the brat with contempt. This guy's shamelessness was really unrivaled!

He slapped him in the back. "Fu Yangzhu! Don't you have any pride! There is no free lunch in the world, why don't you go get one for yourself?"

"Little Rei, I wasn't asking you! I was asking sister-in-law!"

"Who is your sister-in-law? You don't deserve one!"

Mu Qianmo wisely decided to change the topic once the two other guys started bickering.

"Little sister Mo, how about we walk over by foot. We don't have to be involved with the people arguing. Can you first conceal the Marauder in your space?" Mu Qianmo asked. He also felt like they need to be cautious since the road was narrow and that car had taken half of the space while the people arguing were on the other side.
