A Boy Named Dong Fang Yu Liang

(this chapter contains a slight spoiler regarding Fang Yuan for people who have not read farther than chapter 2150 ~)

The gu world was separated in 5 regions: Southern border, Northern plains, Eastern sea, Western desert and Central continent. Towering over these where the two heavens, black and white, remnants of the heavens of old. In Northern plains' Dong Fang tribe, a line of youths could be seen being sent one by one in a strange ritual.

"Dong Fang Yu Liang, your turn!" called a stern-looking elder. From the line of children came a young boy, looking at most 14. He had a jade-like face, but it was ruined by his uncertain look. If being uneasy was a person, Dong Fang Yu Liang would be him. From the side, his sister Qing Yu, who was only 10 years old, was cheering for him.

10 steps, 20 steps, 30 steps, 40 steps, and finally ending at 47 steps. At that moment, a truly peculiar feeling got hold of Yu Liang – hope gu settled in his body and awakened his aperture, this mystical yet intangible organ which could make heroes and tyrants alike. In it could be settled gu, small worms that could be coerced by their owner to activate certain abilities. One might expect Yu Liang's 47 steps to shock the world, as it was a testament to a grade A talent, but Dong Fang tribe was a super tribe. Of course a rank A talent was a happy occurrence, but they were far more common than in small tribes. Yu Liang's talent was not helping with his unease at all, as he had had a tumultuous life and as such was more eager to show result and show his worth and finally elevate his condition than to posture behind his talent.

Yu liang's life had not been easy; when he was but eleven years old, both his parents died. Adding insult to injury, their estate was very appealing to all sorts of rascals and scum. Yu Liang decided to give the majority of his inheritance to an elder of the tribe, seeking help and refuge as well as help regarding his little sister, Dong Fang Qing Yu, whom he now hat to take care of. As if all off that wasn't enough, Yu Liang had a big secret, a secret that no one except his parents knew, not even his sister. His maturity and clairvoyance was not a god-given gift to a prodigious son of Dong Fang tribe, no… it was the result of his previous life experience, as Yu Liang was what was commonly called an Otherworldly Demon, a name meant to disparage people who cross over from another world to this one. The real end of << The Legend of Ren Zu>> might have been lost forever, but this particular nickname has lasted throughout the ages, its origin lost over time.

In any case, if it were ever known that Yu Liang was a so-called otherworldly demon, he would be put down as fast as possible. Otherworldly demons were already a touchy subject from the start, but since one of the fabled Venerable who spread chaos was one such otherworldly existence, most powers-that-be were even more reluctant to accept them, fearing that another such existence would climb to the top of the gu world and become a venerable.

After the ceremony, Yu Liang returned home with his sister and planned for his life. You see, Yu Liang had one advantage. The place he came from had a certain novel retracing the story of Great Love Immortal Venerable, more casually called Gue Yue Fang Yuan. As such, even if information about the novel was not perfectly retained, he had a clear picture of this worlds foreseeable future.

"If I truly want to leave my mark on this world, I can only thread on a path no one has walked before. Wisdom path, rule path, refinement path. All these are interesting options but I feel they are lacking." thought Yu Liang. "To my knowledge, no one ever managed to find space door. Which means that I must either abandon the hope of finding my way home, or that I must forge my way to the top with my own path. The second option is the most attractive, although the most dangerous as well."

The gu master hopefuls were now to have classes with the elders, to separate the gu Immortal seeds from the common talents. It was important for their future, for their hopes of becoming a gu Immortal.

Gu Immortals were not truly immortal, they were called this because of their great power and arrogance. Becoming one of them meant that you had transcended the common and had become a unique existence. The truth was far harsher as most common gu immortals ended at rank six, never going further and dying of old age without achieving anything major. Rank six was the lowest an immortal could be, rank seven would start to be respected, rank eight was the current top of the world and rank nine was an existence called a venerable.

Venerables were to the number of 10 in the whole gu world's existence, classified in two groups: Immortal venerable, the "good side", Demon venerable, the "evil side". The truth was far more mixed than that. Heavenly court, an authoritarian organization, was the one who decided who was Immortal Or Demonic and they would classify anyone going against them as Demonic, such as Limitless venerable, who was only someone who researched with his whole heart to gain more and more knowledge and understand the world's secret. Setting the venerables aside, the academy would be Yu Liang's first and only chance in Dong Fang tribe to get attention and get more resources.

The first sessions ended well, as Yu Liang's natural talent made him shine and be especially responsive to wisdom path gu worms. Yu Liang had never experienced such a feeling as creating thoughts spontaneously using primeval energy, and the result while only being rank one early stage was astounding, so much that he was starting to wonder if wisdom path should be followed till rank 6 and more, doubting his own convictions of marking the world with his own path.

Over the next month, Yu liang trained with the resources given by his tribe and achieved gu master rank 2, a fast but decent speed for a rank A talent backed by a super tribe. His path, in the eyes of the clan, was all set: manage the tribe with his wisdom path and bring it back to its glory days.

His talent attracted the attention of Dong Fang Chang Fan, an ancestor of his who cultivated wisdom path.

"This junior might be qualified enough for me to achieve my plans! I shall help him out"

And as such, when Yu Liang was sleeping, knowledge appeared in his mind of an inheritance in the surroundings of his tribe. And late at night, Yu Liang left the tribe to pursue his destiny.

So here it is. I chose Dong Fang Yu Liang because in the Imperial court contest he was obviously very gifted, but got eclipsed by Fang Yuan and his fate was sealed from that moment on. The mc will try to interfere the least possible with the main plot but at the same time I don't want to do a retelling of reverend insanity so I'll just have him do his own thing on the side while Fang Yuan is fighting venerables and heavens (of course, the mc will have his moments of glory and action with the main plot, such as fate war which is honestly too important to miss out on.)
