The unreadable silence that rested in the air would have been passed for absence. Anyone who passed by that Forest would assume that no one was around. The way the awkwardness and discomfort stirred between Noah and Lily was effortless.
Noah's heartbeat rapidly in his chest as he went over every possibility in his head that this was all a dream. He was still in denial and any effort that Lily was making to try and convince him otherwise seemed to be fruitless. Noah believed that Lily was dead. He had seen her die. He was there when Gerald and Michael carried her lifeless body towards the backyard. Noah could never believe that the girl standing in front of him right now was the same girl that he had been trying to monitor and protect all this time. if nightmares were real, then this would be the perfect definition.
