Chapter 17 Public Execution

The birds sang loudly in the morning while the sun glanced down to the earth with a bright smile. The people in the city gathered before the square, looking at the wooden stage with various expressions but one thing was sure. The hatred in their eyes drilled holes through the criminals' bodies some even tried to throw a rock at them but the knights stopped their moves.

They touched their sword hilt to show everyone that this wasn't an entertaining show or some kind of displace.

" Attention. The new lord and his people are coming to the stage!"

Uther climbed on the stage with a crimson robe with the insignia of a dragon on it. He stood center of the stage with Magnus and Freyja while looking at his people.

" My people listen to me. Today I shall bring justice to your families by these hands. I will offer my father and my siblings' heads to quench your thirst for revenge. Furthermore, this will be a warning for the corrupted and evil for my sword will aim at their heads."

His loud and clear words made everyone silent except an elderly woman who knelt in front of Uther. Her eyes were filled with tears as she held a rock in her hands. Her little body trembled from unknown emotion, seemingly relaxed and sad at the same time.

" Thank you, my lord. Please kill them."

She mumbled under her breath but everyone could her voice. The people understood her suffering as they followed her. They all knelt on the stone-cold road while expressing their desire for revenge.

" Mmp*"

Magnus raised his head to look at the old count who was trying to say something with tears and snot.

His rough hand slowly made toward his mouth, pulling the cloth out from it to allow him to say his last words.

" You are pigs worse than humans. I have clothed and fed you. Do you all think this is correct? Who do you think protected you from harsh winter and enemies? Who do you talk with other lords to get you rations?"

However, before he could finish his words, a rock came flying toward his face while a boy stood there with a red face. His little face was engulfed with fury, cursing out loud to show his heart.

" You, sick monster. Your people raped my sister and threw her out in the cold winter. Do you know how she died in the end?

Her blood was frozen from the frost and her expression was filled with fear and despair. I will never forgive a monster like you. You aren't a lord or a noble, you are a monster in a human skin."

Uther didn't stop the boy while looking at him with pity, his heart was bleeding from the sadness but he didn't dare to show it to his people. Instead, he allowed them to pour out their emotions.

" Yes, he is right. The poor girl died in the cold street, I saw that. Monsters like you should rot in the purgatory."

The people chanted loudly, demanding death from him while Freyja looked at the people with a calm face.

She dragged the lord's family to the front of the stage while the executioner stood next to her.

She then threw her dagger at the boy and it landed right in front of him. The people fell into silence as the boy looked at her with puzzlement but soon he understood her meaning.

His tiny hands reached the dagger, pulling it out from the stones while he made his way to the front where the lord was held before him.

" Take the chance, boy. Be a man for your family."

The little boy took a deep breath, plunging the cold steel toward his eyes. Then he slashed his body with the bloody knife, laughing with a maniac voice. The adrenaline hit his mind, making him numb to his emotions and pain before Halfdan who was among the people, grabbed his wrist.

" That is enough, kid. You have done well."

The executioner looked at Uther with a calm face while Uther nodded his head to affirm his role. The flesh-tearing sound was heard in the crowd as a single head rolled before the boy.
